I want to be glamorous!

I have definitely let myself go in the name of comfort but I need to claw this back. Please can anyone suggest a few things that will help without spending a fortune?

I broke my foot so can no longer wear heels which definitely isn't helping.

Can you suggest any glamorous flat shoes?

Thank you!

As told to me by a glamorous 90 something year old, she looks like not yet / only just retired.

  1. Always stand as tall as you can, don't let your shoulders slump ever. Pretend you are an ornament on a Christmas tree, held up by a thread at the top of your head. (interestingly she is now a LOT taller and looks younger than her younger sister who slumps)
  2. Have a relaxed smile. Shake off the inevitable frown from above the eyes - relax the forehead and the lines go/reduce.
  3. Use a decent moisturiser, and keep the face / neck looking plumper
  4. Co-ordinate your colours as best you can - cheap jewellery works here.

Silky blouses, small earrings, manicured nails. A unique perfume. Hair washed and brushed and styled at all times. I’m exhausted just writing this 😅

It gets easier if you keep to a routine.

A nice lipstick. Nicely shaped eyebrows (the kind you don't have to brush and polish every day). Nice earrings.
For the foot... I'm sorry. I hurt my foot ages ago and there's no going around this: either you go for comfort or you go for beauty. If you find both get them in different colours and stock. I have a serious problem with my foot so my view is based on that. If you've got "normal feet" you don't have to go to such extremes...
Nice shoe brands to try which tend to be comfortable if you have a serious foot problem: Geox, Skechers, Vionic (this one I haven't tried personally), Fitflop, Asics (the gel ones), Rockport (try TKMaxx) and Timberland (not all but some of the wedges). Anything else you need to put your foot in it, walk around and keep your fingers crossed it'll be comfortable for longer than an hour.
Another option is to buy fancy schmancy orthopedic insoles and stick them in a pretty shoe.
Pretty bracelets make me feel happy too and I feel like I've "put in the effort".
I've got zero advice for clothes because I've lost my way so I've got nothing to say!

Good luck !

I love black dresses, long slinky ones. Black pumps? Gold bangles and gold earrings (doesn't have to be real) Grin

Those Marie Antoinette shoes are the literal antithesis of glamorous. They look like party shoes for the under 5s!

I'm glad it's not just me thinking this!! Holy moly, those shoes are revolting. I have more glamorous slippers (and I'm not even joking).

Oceanus · 26/07/2023 18:51

OP if you want ballerinas try the Rockport ones with the Adidas insole (it says Adidas inside).

MrsAngelClare · 26/07/2023 19:13

Not sure if available in the UK but check out Australian brand Bared shoes. Podiatrist designed but beautiful designs and super comfortable, even the heels.

Shoes aside. Regular hair cuts . If your hair is coloured , keep up regularly . Good well manicured nails / toes . Well applied make up , understated jewellery , plus a few
' Wow ' pieces . Good quality , classic style clothes . A fabulous coat , quality handbags , good posture , and a lovely personality .

They look…..erm……comfortable 😂. But the brief was “glamorous” so they’re not at all suitable.

Oh gosh yes I have never seen anything like those before.

Just awful

LanaL · 26/07/2023 20:26

What about some fancy trainers ? I don’t mean like sporty type but like some designer ones ? I like to see myself as quite glam ( on a budget 🤣 ) … but as I’ve got older I am wanting comfort more - I used to live in heels but I’m now knocking on 40 and I just prefer trainers but I still want to feel a bit glam so I have some lovely , white Valentino trainers my husband got me for Xmas and I can wear them with anything and I always feel like they look nice !

SophiaElise · 26/07/2023 20:36

You can get chic flat slingbacks for late spring to early autumn. Then tall flat boots from late autumn to early spring. If you find a pair you like that fits, buy it in different colours. With regular rotation, they wear out slower.

Is anyone shocked it was removed?! There was no need to mock anyone. I posted the most hideous pair of heeled crocs on a wedding post the other day. It was by accident, obviously, not deliberate. Fortunately the OP saw the funny side... after the initial shock!

It's oddly pleasing that that site exists. I wouldn't wear them but it would cheer me up looking at them.

I don't think I would ever buy them but I quite like these- or rather the idea that they exist. Tbh if given a choice of only these or some the trainers on trainer threads, I might take these.

Siamese Cat Shoes

I LOVE them!!!

TheNineNine · 26/07/2023 21:23

I'm very sad I didn't get to see the Marie Antoinette shoes but those cat ones are quite the statement!
