I love the style on the model, the leisurely coolness about it- however I worry I will end up looking like an elderly ( I’m in my mid 40s)

It gives the vibe of bloody useless in the rain.

I like the style of OP's coat but hate the beige.

It does, doesn't it? Tbh, that Sosander coat's pretty awful too, just in a different way.

Sensibletrousers · 23/07/2023 23:49

That is the most boring coat i have ever seen in my life.

mastertomsmum · 23/07/2023 23:52

So it’s a jacket/waterproof/rainwear/anorak if you want a coat buy a coat. If you want a waterproof buy a high performance walking jacket. It’s too dull and the waist pulled in like that is a horrid style. Sorry

PegasusReturns · 24/07/2023 00:43

Terrible - sorry OP

if you like beige go for a proper trench

if you want a rain coat try looking at Rains; Barbour or Lulu Lemon which all have far nicer options.

pastypirate · 24/07/2023 00:57

My 80 year old mum also rejects thirds she thinks are old lady! She buys her macs from sea salt.

IndianSummer78 · 24/07/2023 04:59

NatashaDancing · 23/07/2023 23:21

I'd love to know what she means by that?

What sort of stuff do "old ladies" wear?

Why is there this ridiculous assumption that an ugly, dull, unstylish piece of clothing will be the option chosen by a pensioner/ old lady?

Ridiculous assumption? Oh come on. Open your eyes and look around you. The vast majority of people of pension age do wear awful shite like this as everyday clothing. Maybe you live somewhere particularly stylish 🤷

OP it's minging. The model is wearing unfashionable clothes. It would look even worse with more modern wider leg jeans. They've blown it open with a fan so you can see her tiny waist in that skintight outfit. If you do not have her physique or you're wearing an outfit with more volume than the model, it's going to look shite. If you fasten it, it'll look shite - the model demonstrates this well

isthismylifenow · 24/07/2023 06:01

Geez, these comments are awful.

The jacket looks like a parka style to me, and I don't get the 'it's minging' etc comments. It's a perfectly fine jacket for what OP seems to be looking for.

I really do love this board, but what annoys me is that if someone wants to go against the grain of what is currently in fashion or stocked in particular shops, then they made a mockery of and are pointed to go get the same thing everyone else is wearing.

Yes its a style and beauty board. It doesn't mean everyone has to love the same style.

OP get the jacket if you like it.

SD1978 · 24/07/2023 06:24

I'm not a fan of the shade of beige. I have many beige clothes- they look neat, I love them because I think they look smart with the style the model is wearing, and couldn't give a shit if people think it's a 'pensioner' look- which is offensive anyway. I'd probably choose a darker shade, but I like the style and don't actually care if it doesn't follow the accepted 'style' whatever the hell that is.....

PrinceHaz · 24/07/2023 06:26

Beige is fine if it suits you colouring. What gives it away as a bit dull is the hanging toggles and waist cinching.

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 24/07/2023 06:28

I'm mid 40s and I would not wear this under any circumstances. If you like it and it suits your image, fill your boots.

Brumbies · 24/07/2023 08:25

Quitelikeacatslife · 23/07/2023 23:06

Awful
Have a look a sea salt, they have similar practical ones but with a bit of style
I've got this which I love

I prefer OP's jacket to this dreary green one.

OP if you like the jacket get it, why even worry what anyone else thinks?

The ageism on this thread is appalling - started by the OP herself with her ridiculous statement "I worry I will end up looking like an elderly"

No, OP you won't end up "looking like an elderly" [sic] You'll look like a 40 year old woman wearing a boring coat in a dull colour.

Blossomtoes · 24/07/2023 09:05

BadGranny · 24/07/2023 08:59

How about something like this instead?
http://www.carryonclothing.co.uk/reversible-coats-and-jackets-c17/ubu-reversible-zip-front-coat-p592

Ubu jackets and coats are good quality and most definitely NOT old.

Oh dear.

ohsheglows · 24/07/2023 09:22

I'm 32 and I have this exact raincoat! I wanted a good, stylish dog walking jacket. Just a warning OP, it runs quite large so I'm a size 8 normally but the size 8 is enormous, I cinch it in the waist with the toggles. The colour also isn't beige, it's a mushroomy/khaki colour. I like it as it's good quality, waterproof and also has a storm hood (so hard to find in a jacket that isn't a hiking jacket!)

Lanadelrej · 24/07/2023 10:26

Thanks everyone.
Yes it’s Joules and I already have about 6 of these in many different colours In the famous Coast jacket style but I do love the beige colour but not too sure about the style of the jacket.
This is a bit different style to the ones I already own - I wish the lining / hood was different more contrasting or patterned.
I only really like the colour on this one.

Lanadelrej · 24/07/2023 10:33

@ohsheglows thank you! Yes it’s described as mushroom colour, so not so beige but on some other website it looks rather light.

Sorry but it looks like the kind of coats my mother and her cronies used to take on their coach tours.

I'm struggling to find a redeeming feature tbh.

LimeCheesecake · 24/07/2023 10:41

Do you wear skinny bottom half clothes and/or very short skirts? Because that coat will look terrible over anything on the bottom half with a bit of fabric to it. So wide leg trousers, some straight leg, skirts that are closer to knee than arse, midi skirts/dresses etc.

There was a stage that I wore skinny jeans all the time, but while I still own some, I don’t routinely wear them every day. Some woman do wear gym leggings daily, but then this coat isn’t “sporty” enough to not look wrong over the top of that look either. (Think it’s the beige colour, you could get away with this over gym leggings if it was in a different colour)

For me, I can’t justify a coat that would only look good over one pair of trousers I own, and those being trousers I don’t routinely wear every week. If you are committing to the skinny jeans look for this autumn, you might get good amount of wear out of it.

Yes! A tad darker than that photo. I do really like it! Lots of pockets too
