Thread to discuss and compare 2023 Beauty Advent contents. Started because Liberty has already published their contents.

Anyone know if you can get the Liberty GWP whilst using blue light discount? Have made sure amount is more than £175 post-discount but it keeps disappearing from my basket…

I’m sure the terms and conditions said no discounts such as blue light or student.

AnnieSnap · 30/08/2023 23:38

Last year, I ended up with 3. I bought M&S, but then bought NUXE and Sephora when they were heavily discounted. I rarely wear make-up and can’t wear mascara, so the make-up is of no value to me. I really enjoyed them, but only because they cost me comparatively little.

When did they become discounted?

Mydogisamentalist · 31/08/2023 09:03

I’m not sure if it’s advent calendar fatigue or if the offerings this year are just a bit meh but I’m not feeling it.

Space NK is looking like the best for me but there’s still a lot in there that I’m not excited by. I’m going to hold out hope on JL and if that doesn’t appeal I’ll treat myself to some full size products I actually want. The chestnut candle in Cult Beauty is appealing but the travel size is not! I just keep thinking I could get the full size candle, the discovery set of Jo Loves perfume and a full size of my favourite plus some other bits and still have change from the amount a calendar would cost.

It was quite late. I can’t remember exactly, but one was about a week into December. The other was sometime in November.

Peridot1 · 31/08/2023 11:19

JJust had an email about the Space NK one. Looks better than the Liberty one for me. Except for the chocolate Laniege lip mask. Sounds yuck.

I am not feeling any of them as yet. I am leaning towards M&S purely as it’s not a big spend and I will still have something to open. Huge FOMO! Love the ritual of opening a drawer every morning in December.

MavisMcMinty · 31/08/2023 11:54

Last year I bought Benefit and Perricone ACs as they were discounted. It was I’m pretty sure before Christmas, but quite close to Christmas, I hadn’t actually bought one at the usual time because of lack of funds. I can see that happening again this year, going by most people’s apparent ennui on this thread.

I like the Liberty AC but not enough to bankroll the £140 shortfall in my BD credit. Next year I’ll have the full credit and will buy it unseen!

MidnightMeltdown · 31/08/2023 12:09

Yeah I ended up with quite a few last year as there were so many discounts!

I think that the biggest discounts were NAP which was reduced to around £110 down from £260, Selfridges which was half price, and Mintd which went down to £150 from £250.

I noticed that the feel unique calendar from a couple of years ago is still hanging about in various forms so they obviously STILL haven't sold out 😂

Puravida23 · 31/08/2023 12:31

Yeah I ended up getting a discounted John Lewis (I think around £154) half price Latest in beauty (from TikTok! £99) and got my DD flannels calander ( around £120). Last year was amazing although not for my bank balance!
it will be interesting to see how this year plays out

redredwineub40 · 31/08/2023 12:32

Hmmm space nk does look good-ish, if you’ve got any teen girls in your life those bonkers lip masks are all the rage!

Oh yes, I got LIB half price on TikTok too! No wonder I have so many beauty products 🙈

Enriquetta · 31/08/2023 16:47

Liberty GWP may only still be available to Beauty Drop members, can't remember what's in it but it wasn't impressive, Usually this is my annual treat rather than an advent calendar

tryingsomethingnew · 31/08/2023 17:36

What do you mean they were discounted on discount from tik tok?

Puravida23 · 31/08/2023 17:53

@tryingsomethingnew Latest in beauty has its own shop on TikTok and last year they reduced the advent on there (but had a different deal on their website) . It seems they often do this so if you ever want any of their boxes/advents it is worth checking their shop first

Housewife2010 · 31/08/2023 18:14

I have the Laneige chocolate lip mask from last year's CB AC. Really it's just a chocolate scented lip balm. It isn't flavoured fortunately. It's fine. I'd far prefer for it to be unscented, but it's ok and a big pot.

Housewife2010 · 31/08/2023 18:18

I ended up with lots of reduced ACs last year. A great bargain was the 12 day Bare Minerals which was mistakenly sold for £24 for a couple of hours last year. They were on sale for £99 and it was supposed to be on offer for £24 off i.e. £75, but some of us managed to get it for £24. I opened mine during January.

wheresmyshoe · 31/08/2023 18:28

I've just watched Cosmetiopia's unboxing/analysis of Anthropologie on YouTube (I love love love Renu, she's brilliantly honest). It is front runner for Jadvent and a possible for advent.

TBF, although I ended up buying lots of calendars, I bought them over a 6 month period between August and January, and I didn't use them all as calendars, so it didn't really feel like I was buying that many!

TheGoodBanana · 31/08/2023 19:14

I've never been on an AC thread before, these prices are insane but I hope to join in if there is a discount at some point.

I have to ask though, how have so many comments broken the guidelines, how controversial can a AC be!

There are usually one or two posters having a rant about the environment and stuff and how we're all single-handedly going to cause the earth to explode before the end of the year. Or about how insensitive we are to others' struggles because you could feed a family of four for a month on what one advent calendar costs and we're all horrible, nasty people. I assume that's what it was.

Some of the prices are insane but the M&S one tends to be very reasonably priced, although you do have to make a minimum purchase in order to get it. But you can return the purchase without returning the AC. It was M&S that started me on the slippery slope.

TheGoodBanana · 31/08/2023 19:29

@OchonAgusOchonOh ah I didn't even think of that, I was so bemused!

Why can't people just scroll past things that don't interest them.

Bananaman123 · 31/08/2023 19:54

Not feeling any of the AC offerings yet, I think I’ve had too many beauty calendars and subscription boxes that I’ve tried most of the items, apart from the mega expensive stuff. Might just treat myself to some things I know i love.

Selfridges

I bagged the Bare Minerals bargain too. It was the first time I'd used it and has led to a Bare Minerals habit so cost me much more in the long term!
