Thread to discuss and compare 2023 Beauty Advent contents. Started because Liberty has already published their contents.

I think I’m one of the few who loves black eyeliner. Especially the much dreaded eyeko black magic liner! I’ll go to the grave with winged eyes 😁

My DoD are vitamins, heavy perfumes, anything by Avant, shampoo and conditioner put in separate drawers so they take up two days (Cult beauty I’m looking at you) and pointless fillers. No I do not want scrunches, hair grips/bands, bracelets etc in my calendar!

Love a good candle! Anything by Espa, particularly the bath crystals. Big fan of Glow Recipe and always happy to see the watermelon sleep mask.

Giftwithpurchase · 03/08/2023 21:03

Ooh F&M looks tempting! Love all the bath products. Liberty and Harrods a definite no for me. Waiting for Net a Porter as have always found that impressive.

I had JL last year and despite thinking I'd use everything I actually ended up selling and giving away a fair bit of it. I did love the Dermalogica SPF moisturiser tho but can't afford to replace it 🤦‍♀️

Not sure about this year - I've developed a jewellery habit and have spend far too much on myself already. But will be following this thread with interest!

viques · 03/08/2023 21:35

Thanks! Looks good, lots of nice bath smellies and candles.

Stoic123 · 03/08/2023 21:42

F&M looks good to me. Very few DODs or duds.

Yes I’ve wanted to try that wildsmith eye stuff for ages, looks good to me. One or two meh items but looks great. I’m not dithering on that one this year.

wheresmyshoe · 03/08/2023 22:29

Love the look of F&M, that cult 51 day cream helps me overlook a few less lovely drawers.

MidnightMeltdown · 03/08/2023 23:45

F&M looks good, but I think I may prefer Harrods 🤔. F&M is quite similar to previous years

It's got two AA oils again 🥱, Cult 51 cream (and I still haven't used last years), and two mini candles. Mini candles are DoDs for me as aren't usually big enough to give off much scent when burning.

There are a few things which sound nice though. I'd like to see a picture of the full contents.

MidnightMeltdown · 03/08/2023 23:49

I decided to order a Harrods Fragrance calendar (even though I don't need any perfume!). I figured that I could gift or sell the ones that don't suit me.

PomRuns · 04/08/2023 05:47

Fortnums wins for me despite 4 drawers of bath salts 😞

AprilLady · 04/08/2023 07:01

@PomRuns I think it’s one drawer with all 4 - so not too bad.

I think F&M does look pretty good - especially if you like bath products (which I do). Probably a reflection of what they stock, but I also like that the range of brands is a bit different.

PomRuns · 04/08/2023 07:21

Ah that makes it better @AprilLady o love the cult 51 cream too, so it’s a clear winner for me.

I think there is one drawer of bath salts but could be any one of four fragrance options.

The calendar looks good. It was always my favourite in the years I bought it and regretted when I didn't. It feels so Christmassy and luxurious in a way the others don't quite match, even Liberty.

Oops....missed this. Sorry to repeat.

PomRuns · 04/08/2023 08:16

All info good 😊
agree - Fortnums very festive.

I’ll probably get 1 more - maybe JL but they’re always late to release.

Possimpible · 04/08/2023 10:07

Harrods still the best one for me. I don't like the Cult 51 cream, it pills on my skin. And totally agree with @MidnightMeltdown that mini candles are pointless. I love candles (sadly lacking in Harrods) but 140g is a minimum for me in calendars.

I see avant is getting a lot of bad press on here, I was pleasantly surprised by the hyaluronic day moisturiser i got in a beauty box recently so not sure why. I don't know how they have managed to get lumped in with the high end beauty products as they are not that special though and I bet no one ever buys them at RRP

Babysharkdoodoodood · 04/08/2023 10:42

Ooooh. I just saw the Anthropologie one. So pretty. May have to rethink only one calendar this year.

Someaddedsugar · 04/08/2023 10:47

F&M for me this year. Brilliant product list that I'll now pretend I haven't seen 😂

FredaFox · 04/08/2023 11:02

Hates:
Augustinus Bader
Eyeko mascara
This Works pillow spray
Gua sha
Nuxe oil
Prai neck cream
Ren tonic

redredwineub40 · 04/08/2023 11:07

Nuxe oil does wonders for my hair though oddly - the secondhand market on vinted etc will make sure some of this stuff finds a good home

I had the Anthropologie knee last year and really enjoyed it. I may get it again this year.

Twinsandsome · 04/08/2023 11:41

I am SO happy to see this thread I love nothing more than looking at each Calender and the pros and cons of each etc. from last year I was like I’m going to get liberty next year and then I seen the contents and even if 50% off I don’t think I’d buy it there is no wow products for me. F&M on the other hand im really interested in x

PomRuns · 04/08/2023 11:53

Anthropologie looks good - so I’ve 2 on my list so far.
last place is Harrods, Liberty very meh.

I find Avant very pleasant to use, although wouldn’t (couldn’t!) purposely buy it at RRP, it’s nice but not £100-worth of nice.
