Is This OK for a September wedding? I love the style but think it might be too dark?

I too thought that 1st one was a mans night gown. The 2nd, brown thing- if the wedding theme was 'look like a striped poo', well, you'd certainly win the prize! 😬
Sorry, but its my honest thoughts and looks far more funeral wear than wedding. There is a reason they are on sale! What is your colouring and normal style? We might be able to recommend something more wedding like.

Shirts and shirt dresses in navy/dark green

You’d look like a bar code. Don’t wear it to the self checkout.

Yes my husband pointed that out so now I can't unsee that.

Interesting that some people are not completely ruling it out. I should have more confidence in my fashion choices! Thank you all.

I think it's lovely, very classy but for a wedding would need some colour by accessories

If the first one didn't have the stripes it would be salvegable with shoes and accessories.

bladebladebla1 · 17/07/2023 07:20

So classy and lovely but not for a wedding

urbanbuddha · 17/07/2023 07:27

This is nice .

I like this too - it has many elements but I think it works.

Monsoon

PictureConsequences · 17/07/2023 07:41

I think it looks very understated, subtle and chic. You are clearly not a bright floral type, stick with what you like. And your husband went to the same school of fashion as mine...

cantstaymadatyou · 17/07/2023 08:10

Worth bearing in mind that the weather could still be quite warm. I went to a late September wedding a few years back and it was still hot. We’ve had a crap July so could well have an Indian summer. I’d wear something a bit summery with an extra layer.

Monsoon

It has too many elements. The handkerchief hem is one too many. OP clearly likes minimalism. I would have thought that dress is too fussy.

I'm guessing This is also a no..

this feels more like a work outfit

Yes i do like the monsoon one but it has just a little bit too much going on for me. I find monsoon often does that for me - has just one too many things going on.

I'm so tempted by the dressing gown/robe/shirt style

Catspyjamas17 · 17/07/2023 08:48

I think it's lovely. It works dressed up for a wedding and dressed down for work after.

If you don't go to weddings often it's incredibly wasteful to buy an expensive outfit you'll wear once, so something you can adapt for work is so much better.

I think that’s fair comment. It’s a bit worrying that you can’t see what the dress looks like when the model’s not weaving about. But it’s reduced and evening up the hem would be quite simple for a tailor I think.

I like the brown stripy dress. With the right accessories it could look very chic.

ZaZathecat · 17/07/2023 09:08

I love it and would wear it to a wedding. I'd never wear anything that good to work!

TizerorFizz · 17/07/2023 09:20

Yikes! Do not even suggest a hankerchief hem and then say to alter it!

Just buy what suits you. Loads of people wear dresses to weddings they could also wear in the evening. All
you need is an “Alice” band or hat and good accessories. Quality jewellery always lifts an outfit.

I am dull

This is one of the best responses I've ever seen on MN. I bet you're not dull, OP, just not wild and wacky. Good for you.

Now I've clicked several times on the Reiss website, I am hoping against hope that Google will stop feeding me ads for sludge-coloured sacks from Toast, which I linked to as a joke on one of the last 'Can I wear this to a wedding?' threads over a week ago.

ActDottie · 17/07/2023 09:37

To me it screams workwear not wedding.

Usernamen · 17/07/2023 10:24

The billowy floral Max Mara’s are awful - far worse than the dress in the OP! I’m guessing you need to be 6 foot not to look like a sack of potatoes in those? They even drown the model.

Anyway, the Reiss occasionwear dresses posted are lovely and more suitable to a September wedding. (I also like the second dress you posted, OP, but more for work than a wedding.)

StopBeingASquare · 17/07/2023 10:32

I'd wear them to a work interview. Absolutely not for a wedding.
