Just because it isn’t white, navy or griege, it doesn’t mean turquoise is ‘Crude’.
it perfectly suits her colouring.

Tanfastic · 25/06/2023 08:08

I love the top half but not the bottom half but she looks absolutely incredible doesn't she.

fairylightning · 25/06/2023 08:16

I thought she looked amazing too, and I support the socks and trainers styling - gives the impression she's not trying too hard and being fabulous comes easy.

I'm confused that the dress is 64% acetate though? I thought acetate was what overhead projector slides were made from etc Confused

Lentilweaver · 25/06/2023 08:32

Crude was a bad use of word. Ugly ? It looks vaguely medical for some reason.

We are allowed to have different opinions, you know. It's not unsisterly. She herself looks great. The dress, not so much.

Fuckitydoodah · 25/06/2023 08:36

She looks absolutely beautiful and I love the dress on her. I think part of her beauty is down to her being a happy and positive person, who's happy in their own skin. She clearly takes good care of herself too.

Lentilweaver · 25/06/2023 08:43

I think it's because she either hasn't had Botox or hasn't overdone it!

bornonvalentines · 25/06/2023 08:47

She's just stunning

Lentilweaver · 25/06/2023 08:53

I don't like that dress either!

LizziesTwin · 25/06/2023 09:08

She’ll be able to wear it to 60th birthday parties, quite handy to have a stunning dress in your wardrobe.

BrandNewBicep · 25/06/2023 09:20

OrderOfTheKookaburra - thats a very good point you make!!

SequinsandStilettos · 25/06/2023 09:23

@CurlyhairedAssassin
I'll sit with you on the haggard bench love.
I'm 51, going through a frankly fucking awful menopause with two ND kids who have not kept me young, the opposite, no spare £ for dentistry let alone botox and I am knackered. There are bloody loads of us on here but we don't tend to frequent the Style and Beauty boards. You'll find us on the Insomnia or SEN boards. Hugs to you Xx

SequinsandStilettos · 25/06/2023 09:25

I loved both of Jo's outfits. Looked dazzling.
You are kidding yourselves if you think she hasn't had some help to look rested though. Plus the majority of us would look awesome with a glow-up/the cash to fund it.

sausagedogpookie · 25/06/2023 00:37

I personally think she looks fab and I love that she wore it with socks and trainers - why not?!
However, what struck me about this post’s replies is how it’s kind of yet another disservice done to women that joe public can look her outfit up and see how much it costs and then pass comment on it and its price. Can we do that to eg Gary Lineker’s suits at the World Cup? Huw Edward’s suits on the news? Daniel Craig’s pink velvet tux at that premiere? And if we could, would anyone? Would they care? Would it be important? If it even so much as registered on anyone’s radar,it’d then immediately drop off after a few comments of: ‘Yep,quality. Can afford it,looks good.’
If she had worn Primark, she’d have been slagged off for that: Is that the best she can do? On her wage? For national tv?
just.let.women.be.

Fantastic post, yes. also not only is it doing women a disservice, it’s so joyless! This is S&B.

SequinsandStilettos · 25/06/2023 09:39

Well, exactly. Style and beauty, I come here to look at dresses I cannot afford. 2.1k on a toga would be one of those things. Very glam though and if she wasn't in the VIP bit and did encounter some mud , she could always tuck it into her knickers! Wink Grin

Wow, I just googled what Jo said about Alison Goldfrapp.

Wow.

I really hope she’d been drinking or something and just had a massive brain fart. And has since apologised, fulsomely.

I just read it. It does sound like a brain fart. Completely inappropriate thing to say or voice her opinion on but it doesn’t sound malicious, more of an observation and possibly sympathetic to people who have cellulite? I would have been upset in Alison’s shoes and I do hope Jo apologised too.

GreenClock · 25/06/2023 10:32

The Goldfrapp thing was shocking but surely an aberration? Jo does not seem like a spiteful woman.

She is a real advocate for her disabled sister Frances, who seems lovely too.

I couldn't imagine a Stella McCartney dress being made out of silk, given the silk cocoons are boiled with the silk worm still in them to allow the silk to unravel as a single thread.

Doing a quick google of it, she does use traditionally made silk, has also tried using Peace silk where the worm leaves as a butterfly but is very hard to use this silk as the threads are broken and very hard to source enough good quality peace silk. She is now apparently looking at Microsilk which is a synthetic vegan silk.

That's an excellent and interesting point.

LadyAstor · 25/06/2023 10:39

At 58, she’s utterly stunning. I think she’s had work but it’s very subtle. The dress is gorgeous and really suits her colouring. I love her.

NatashaDancing · 25/06/2023 10:58

Jo wore what looks like the same Stella McCartney dress but in a patterned material in 2022.

She looks great but so do many, many women in their 50s and older.

Jo Whiley Glastonbury 2022

The Alison Goldfrapp comment sounds like an inner thought mistakenly said out loud. Maybe the rest of you are absolute paragons of sisterly non- judgementality and wouldn't even think it, far less say it. On the other hand I definitely would think what she said.

Jo Whiley’s Glastonbury wardrobe is proof that rock chick style doesn’t have an age limit

The Radio 1 DJ had many fashion highs this weekend. Here's how to nab her style

SequinsandStilettos · 25/06/2023 11:37

“It just goes to show that you can be thin and still have cellulite.”

I'm not a paragon of virtue, no, but even I know you wouldn't say this out loud.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2023 11:49

@SequinsandStilettos or general health moaning about arthritis!! Apart from being overweight I don't look too bad for 61, ( a bit like a fat version of jo Whiley) however it belies the fact I've got various aches and pains

Liz1tummypain · 25/06/2023 11:51

BeccaGeej · 24/06/2023 22:50

Dress is pretty but completely ruined by the awful socks and trainers.

Yes, that's how I see it as well. So strange. It all goes to pot when you see that footwear.

But yes, she's beautiful.

OhFGSwhatTFnow · 25/06/2023 11:52

Nice colour and she looks great but the dress is basically a glorified bedsheet.

NatashaDancing · 25/06/2023 11:57

The footwear is perfect for the location. The footwear would look daft at a red carpet event but delicate sky high heels would look odd here.
