Where's the good stuff in M&S

Having read here that M&S had upped their offering I went shopping today with high expectations, it a larger branch too. Nothing! Bright Green, bright orange and a few t shirts. Denim selection would have been fine if they had anything in a 16

My Sienna jeans are still looking great two years down the line.

Is this terrible? I have the one in white in my basket. all have got me rethinking everything I have ever bought. Posted it on another thread too! Pure Cotton Broderie Puff Sleeve Blouse | M&S Collection | M&S (marksandspencer.com)

I bought one but you do need a cami underneath as it is not lined. I quite like it

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/06/2023 20:14

I think their jeans wear well. Their t-shirts, on the other hand, are dreadful.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/06/2023 20:29

On the back of "Who on earth wears bright orange" ? I had a search for orange dresses .
They had some (not orange) skater dresses which I usually love ..but bloody tiers !

I ordered a slip dress mini -should come knee length or just above on me . Nice for pottering and good for over a swimsuit on holiday .

M&S used to do the 5 pocket jegging years ago which were brilliant
I have a pair of the jeans but not worn them yet .

They did brilliant cotton ju,pers , round necked . Not synthetic or boxy or awful colours .

I like the full briefs that have "Body" on the waistband (£12 for 4) but could only find in black/white . Nothing skin tone or pastel .

CatfoodOzymandias · 11/06/2023 20:30

Orange is the new black!

Attictroll · 11/06/2023 20:34

I got caught up liking m&s bought a few things but on repeated wear realised quite unflattering cut on me a 50plus 5,3" size 10...high necks and cut always made me feel or look old. Hot fabric. Promised myself to not even go again to avoid similar mistakes

lindyloo57 · 11/06/2023 20:42

I ordered the ruched blazer in a 10 thinking it was petite, when it came there was a blue size 16 dress in the parcel instead.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie
Who on earth wears bright orange?

Me! Lots of it. Love it. After years of thinking it makes my face look red, I have had lots of compliments about it. I am glad we no longer have to put up with that awful dull flat burgundy that was everywhere in the winter. I look good in bright colours!

And me! ME! ME! I look happy and healthy on orange and ghastly in black and dull colours. So bring on the orange and daffodil yellow 💛

I really like M&S and buy a lot from them. But due to the fact they allow men in their changing rooms, I order everything online.

vestanesta · 11/06/2023 21:41

Hah - I have the brown droopy dress! The fabric falls well, the cut out bit still allows you to wear a bra and that brown really suits me. The cut flattered my peri figure - draped over the tummy but skimmed enough to show a waist etc.

I wore it with gold jewellery and got quite a few compliments....

BHRK · 11/06/2023 12:33

I bought a broderie Autograph dress in pure cotton. It’s a winner but now sold out in both colours and most sizes. I rate their cashmere highly

Can you link please @BHRK ?

TWmover · 12/06/2023 00:14

I think there is a huge difference in quality/style between their different sub-brands. The M&S collection stuff falls apart/shrinks but Autograph and Per Una last better (although I rarely like stuff in the Per Una style). My local one has dropped Autograph so either travelling to the larger stores for the full range or ordering online is needed.

CherryPosset · 12/06/2023 03:11

Everything is fucking hideous, from the poor quality cotton to the 'tory' shapes.

I tried a seemingly nice dress in cotton on a few weeks ago and every seem was a mess.
The shoes are trying too hard.
The socks are shit, and the nightwear is cheap, crap and pocketless.

I love the foodhall tho!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/06/2023 07:23

I got this skirt too. Needed to size down in this one.

I bought that in the all white! It’s lovely.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2023 07:08

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 12/06/2023 05:53

I bought that in the all white! It’s lovely.

Would be even lovelier with a proper zipped waistband, but the fabric is beautiful and it’s not too bulky despite the elasticated waist.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2023 07:11

Btw, I really don’t care who is in the changing rooms. They all have solid, lockable doors. Even if a man wanted to perve over little old me in my M&S knickers, god help him, he couldn’t see anything.

Pigtailsandall · 11/06/2023 20:03

These are what I had - these and the Sienna jeans. Bought them in August and they were in tatters by March. The Sienna ones were worse by far - the fabric had pulls and it had worn really thin. It even pilled which I haven't really seen denim do. Maybe it was a bad batch (and I have a small wardrobe so I wear my things a lot) but it certainly put me off from their stuff

I had the same experience with these jeans. Such a pity because when new, they were gorgeous.

My main gripe with m&s clothes is their sizing. It's all over the place. I wish they'd sort it out.

I DO worry about 'inclusivity' in the changing rooms. Taken to its conclusion, surely inclusivity could mean that a bra fitter could be a man self identifying as a 'woman'. If so, I really wouldn't be happy with asuch a person measuring my grand daughter for her first bra - would you?

Catspyjamas17 · 12/06/2023 11:21

Online definitely. My local store can be good but it's hit and miss, blink and you'll miss the good stuff, once it's gone it's gone. There is still too much crap in weird fabrics and colours and one length trousers though and it's a shame they can't be relied on still for basics, though they have been a bit better recently. I ended up buying men's chinos from there recently as the women's were all in pastel shades in autumn or in that slightly cropped length which I hate, or were sold in 29" inside leg only, and I need 31".

Catspyjamas17 · 12/06/2023 11:24

I've also had a pair of sandals and loafers from M&S recently and had never really bought their shoes before. They are unwearable though as they have never broken in even wearing plasters and just take skin off my feet.

Wouldn't you just request someone else?

Crikeyalmighty · 12/06/2023 11:26

@bendmeoverbackwards - now this is more me- ordering right now!!

That's what I was saying on an earlier post - not every woman wants frilled , fussy, long stuff or stuff that looks like a Tory party convention

Of course I would - and then have to face the 'you hate trans' brigade. I don't hate trans, by the way....
