Where's the good stuff in M&S

Having read here that M&S had upped their offering I went shopping today with high expectations, it a larger branch too. Nothing! Bright Green, bright orange and a few t shirts. Denim selection would have been fine if they had anything in a 16

They have some great stuff but online only. Get it delivered to your local store and try it on in the changing room then return it in store.

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 14:57

My recent buys are all from beachwear bit and are 2 scoop neck tight sleeveless jersey T shirt dresses (to knee) one in black and one in leopard type effect plus a long thin cotton over shirt .

Crikeyalmighty · 11/06/2023 15:03

I bought this the other day from Silk Fred and mentioned it on the Sea Salt thread - nice sheer fabric- well made, true sizing- looks great- not mental money

What I don't understand is why M&S don't do a bit more like this to counterbalance all that frilled bright stuff- ? I honestly think it would fly out !! I'm totally their demographic and think most stuff in at the moment needs you to be about 6ft tall and wants you to look like you are on The Waltons!

@Crikeyalmighty , I don't think that dress would appeal to the average M&S shopper

CatfoodOzymandias · 11/06/2023 15:16

I don't like polyester or viscose so I wouldn't buy that SilkFred dress. I only wear cotton or cotton with elastane. Makes for a lot of ironing but I can deal with that.

Is this terrible? I have the one in white in my basket. all have got me rethinking everything I have ever bought. Posted it on another thread too! Pure Cotton Broderie Puff Sleeve Blouse | M&S Collection | M&S (marksandspencer.com)

I liked this today but they didn't have my size. I used to love m%s t-shirts to wear under my suit jackets with trousers instead of a blouse depending on my diary, they are awful now. I nipped in today and got a lovely selection of bras and that's it. X

But these colours, the green in particular are what's currently in fashion. All of the shops are full of it, so it's not really their fault that you don't like what's current. I do think they've upped their game fwiw. Their sandals this season are lovely and I've bought a dress and a jacket there recently that I really love

Yes, this is what I do

Downsizeddumpling · 11/06/2023 15:26

I wish they would collaborate with Ghost on dresses again!

HandbagsnGladrags · 11/06/2023 15:29

Just bought these and I love them. So comfortable. Have had loads of summer stuff from m&s this year.

I am impressed by M&S this year and have purchased more items recently than in the past five years! I am lucky that the local stores have good range allocations due to their size and that I've chanced on items that have really impressed me, so I think it depends on where and when you shop and you do sometimes need to see something in the flesh - I bought a dress last week, 100% cotton, last one on the rail, my size and very flattering and would never have purchased it on line. Like all clothing stores it is very much hit and miss and the returns must be killing their profits margins. Having spent this morning on a large local town's high street, I am less than impressed by labels often raved about on MN and them having little but polyester / stretch fabric on their rails and greenwashing their polyester offerings (at ridiculous prices) by saying it is recycled!

@gogohmm Its in the imagination of whichever fashion editor wrote the article.

Thats where it’s always been.

Shapeless clothes.

GoddessOfFire · 11/06/2023 15:34

It’s become my go to tbh, autograph dresses, cargo pants, wide stripe trousers, wide linen trousers. Linen t shirts, cashmere stuff.

GoddessOfFire · 11/06/2023 15:34

Online though never in store.

I bloody love M&S at the moment and they have been my go to for a while for classics. Actually had two dresses delivered this morning:

This in the navy, it looks much better on
https://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-printed-midaxi-shirt-dress/p/clp60594408?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

and this https://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-cotton-v-neck-midaxi-waisted-dress/p/clp60626172?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

I have the navy one too.

I bought it online- if I’d seen it in a shop I’m not sure I’d have picked it up to try on. I’ve had loads of compliments when I’ve worn it.

I think they’re pretty good for dresses at the moment (and until about a month ago I hadn’t bought clothes there for years) and I like that they have loads of cotton fabrics.

WellTidy · 11/06/2023 15:48

@SparkyBlue I agree, I’ve bought a load of their petite stuff this season. Spent quite a lot! I just wish the search function on the website was better. If I search petite, I get a load of results that aren’t petite at all.

SparkyBlue · 11/06/2023 15:53

@WellTidy isn't the search function unbelievably bad ? You actually nearly need to go into each item and check the sizing available.

Same here, I took a chance and ordered thinking I’d send it back if no good, I’m glad I did!

WellTidy · 11/06/2023 15:57

@SparkyBlue I know! It surprises me that they don’t sort it out. I am narked because when I search for petite, a ruched blazer comes up which I think would be a good addition to my petite wardrobe. But it isn’t available in petite in any of the colours, so why is it coming up?! It is taunting me, as are many of the regular fit dresses that appear. I have bought plenty (more than I should have, really) and I don’t need another dress but still 😆

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/06/2023 16:02

I saw a nice broderie cotton dress yesterday, but it was bright orange. It was one of the few dresses that was a nice fabric and didn't have a high neck and/or a big hole in the back. Who on earth wears bright orange?

Spamlla · 11/06/2023 16:02

What puzzles me is why they don’t restock popular items? Their best sellers go out of stock really quickly and that’s it, no more. Meanwhile other items languish on the rails for months. Why not restock the stuff that sells well?

I love orange. Saw this dress yesterday and thought it was fab but resisted as I have far too many dresses.

There’s a beautiful dress that I want from M&S, it’s absolutely perfect. Tons of them available in orange… sold out in black.
