My DH suggesting I'm "getting old" because I've ordered from Seasalt

WoofWoofBeachLife · 08/06/2023 07:27

I saw a lovely wee dress last night on Seasalt, I have some money saved for a clothes makeover and decided to go for it. My DH said last night it was nice but isn't Seasalt for older women 😆 I'm 51 in July and I don't think it looks like an OAP website. Now I'm thinking, shit should I send it back?
I just want a few quality pieces I can add to, I've not bought myself anything in a long long time due to illness. We are going shopping to a shopping centre on Sunday and I'm reluctant to browse with him hovering now x

tell him off for being an ageist berk. Everyone should wear clothes they feel comfortable in that fit them.
If they look and feel nice, then fuck everyone else.

I have just looked at their website. They're fairly expensive, do they have their clothes made locally (it's a Cornish company, right?) if so that's a reason to support them. I've heard their quality is good.

What's not to like if you find something that appeals to you?

WoofWoofBeachLife · 08/06/2023 11:24

You obviously do as you've commented enough 🙄 🤣

I give a stuff what I wear.

Why I give a toss what MNers wear?

Hollyppp · 08/06/2023 12:02

im 32 and quite like a lot of stuff on their site. Bags and pjs!!

notawittyname1954 · 08/06/2023 12:03

I think you can pick up nice pieces from all over the place to be honest. you might not like everything someones sells but there will be the random thing that can catch your eye. I buy bits and bobs from all over. And its how you style it too. And anyway you wear whatever you like. If I offend your aesthetics don't look at me. I'm happy.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/06/2023 12:05

You see this is the kind of holiday thing that would actually suit me (61) although I'm not a big fan of white- as I'm a bit messy!!
and I refuse to think it's frumpy - have seen similar though in all the chains people are slagging off

Looks a lovely dress, don’t worry what anyone else says. Pretty rude of DH to make such comments tbh.

Verbena17 · 08/06/2023 12:13

I’m 45 and have been buying from seasalt for years.
If the clothes are your style what does it matter? They’re quite classic clothes that can be really good staples.

Who cares what your DH thinks!

RampantIvy · 08/06/2023 12:14

That's really lovely @Crikeyalmighty, although it wouldn't suit me, and it would go yellow round the edges from sun cream.

I don't understand what makes this style while Joules is not. Those colours should never go together. https://www.meandem.com/merino-cashmere-relaxed-patchwork-cardigan-oatmeal-dijon-violet

They couldn't go together better!
It's 101 of colour theory to put opposite colours together.

Heh, is it? I think it's really ugly.

I had a look at their website..I can see what he means, some are rather 'safe' mumsy floral coverall frocks.

For some reason, {some} men detest floral frocks.

But the tops and trousers are OK.

@WoofWoofBeachLife Tell him they have a 20% off sale on MENSWEAR 🤣

Verbena17 · 08/06/2023 12:21

I think people are mixing together age and style and that’s how it gets tricky.

You can be young (25) and love seasalt clothing because that’s your style or you could be older (65) and love Zara because that’s your style etc.

It doesn’t matter if clothing is old or young - the reason you buy stuff you like is because that’s your style.
If you love an item of clothing, buy it.

Newpeep · 08/06/2023 12:23

Am I the only one that doesn’t have s style? I wear what I like. Some days jeans and hoodie, some days a dress. I buy clothes I like, are good quality and last. Currently at work (education) in a Craghoppers long sleeved plain walking top, Marks cream cropped trousers and vans shoes. I buy mu stuff from all over - often second hand too.

oakleaffy · 08/06/2023 12:25

@WoofWoofBeachLife 51 you are in your prime!
Wear what you love.

JaffaCake70 · 08/06/2023 12:25

Singleandproud · 08/06/2023 07:32

I wear Seasalt and I'm in my 30s, they are no different to Fat Face, Joules etc. Wear what you like.

I agree with this. I love all of the above, I'm 53 and not ready for my twinset and pearls just yet!

Rosesandstars · 08/06/2023 12:27

WoofWoofBeachLife · 08/06/2023 07:53

I liked it because of the colour and also the fabric against my skin at the moment. Anything restrictive I can't have, I need loose. Xx

That looks pretty- surely it's more of a case of deciding whether it look dowdy on rather than caring about the brand. I don't think of Seasalt as for older people and I'm in my 30s.

Rosesandstars · 08/06/2023 12:28

*looks

windmill26 · 08/06/2023 12:30

I am 51 and I dress for my age...no mutton dressed as lamb here but I wouldn't wear Seasalt,Joules,Fat Face,White Stuff etc.
It is a matter of taste at the end of the day,if you like it go ahead.

TheReverendBeeb · 08/06/2023 12:31

Another interesting thread ....

What I find irritating on S&B is the assumption that those who favour a particular aesthetic are deemed to be uninterested in what they look like. It is quite possible that they chose that look deliberately as it appeals to them.

I follow fashion trends from afar and some I find quite aesthetically displeasing so would never countenance wearing them. I have an idea of the look I am trying to achieve and whether or not I am successful in achieving it is a matter of opinion. To the outside world, and probably many self declared fashionistas on here, I may look like I am not interested in fashion. They would be wrong. I am influenced by trends but I don't slavishly follow them because they don't always appeal to me.

Btw, I too think those Batsheva dresses are pretty hideous, but that's my opinion. Others clearly love them. Surely there's room for all sorts. I don't think one should ever assume that someone else is not dressing purposefully just because it doesn't tally with their own opinions.

This woman in pic is in her Eighties...She's fitter and more flexible than me, ..she mainly buys from charity shops..Gives hope for us all.

Redkettle · 08/06/2023 12:35

I find sea salt a little older style but I have my own issues. I'm 49 and still buy from urban outfitters lol. I never know what the hell to wear getting older

She looks amazing

KnittedCardi · 08/06/2023 12:36

I am 56, and I think they are very old/aging. The prints and styles are just..... meh. To a pp, they are nothing like Fat Face or Joules, where I do shop!

Crikeyalmighty · 08/06/2023 12:36

@RampantIvy Yep- and it only goes to a 16 and one size- so suspect it wouldn't fit !!

I bought this in the end- I'm sure it's not trendy but will get a lot of wear!! With or without leggings!!

I do like this brand- they support a lot of small individual brands, nice styles , some sensible, some a bit funkier and are are UK based unlike a lot of those things you see that look lovely but come from China and are hard to return (I don't have any connection with them ) - I don't really like buying clothes online - but hey sometimes I really struggle at the high st- especially after closure of Debenhams, Wallis, Dotty perkins etc

Had to google Batshiva- hideous!
And a bizarre look to some of the stuff with a bondage vibe going on with model encased in rubber bands and polythene- yuck.
