I do hope that in private the Wales children get to wear more normal clothes. I bet Louis absolutely rocks a dinosaur t-shirt!

CaveMum · 18/06/2023 10:25

My own thoughts on seeing Louis’ red shorts were - “Oops, someone refused to put his trousers on today!” He reminds me of my own DS (aged 6) who recently did his own Prince Louis impression by sticking his tongue out at the photographer at BIL’s wedding while DH was giving the Best Man’s Speech 😳🙄🤣

So, Royal Ascot next week. There’s no talk on who is attending - the official, line is that no one knows until the Carriage List is released on the day - but the King is expected on at least 1 day. I’ll pop the lists up here when I get them emailed through by Ascot.

The racing industry is nervous of how things will pan out for RA from now on, the late Queen was one of our biggest assets and whilst King Charles and Queen Camilla have taken on the Royal Stud and the horses in training, they are certainly not as involved as QEII was, and I don’t think the next generation are very bothered by it. Prince Harry used to come to Newmarket every now and then to see the Queen’s horses in training, but he’s certainly not the one to take things on!

Re the comments about no seeing Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis around ponies, the rumour is that the PoW is allergic to horses and not a big fan. I’m sure they will have had exposure via Prince William, but I doubt we’ll see them as actively involved as others.

Maireas · 18/06/2023 10:36

Ah, thank you, @CaveMum . I understand that KC is less a fan of Ascot than his late mother.
I'm laughing at your son and the wedding pictures!

@Maireas no worries. From memory the carriage list is sent out at midday with the procession itself (Live on ITV every day) at 2pm. First race is always 2.30pm so they have to get the carriages out of the way in time to start!

cracking week of racing ahead, highly recommend you watch the whole thing!

themessygarden · 18/06/2023 11:15

I did love the colour of Kate's outfit, the hat was glorious and really suited her, she looked beautiful. The dress itself was really boring and matronly, I thought.

I loved Meghan's casual outfit yesterday, she really nails that easy casual look. I wonder if the Dior ambassadorship is for their fragrances and beauty line, I just can't see her in any of their fashion line.

Or perhaps their bags, shoes and jewellery? Meghan has always accessorised well and her shoe wardrobe is great.

Maireas · 18/06/2023 11:56

Yes, I think bags and shoes. They made her a special Dior bag with DoSS on it. The accessories would be a good idea.
On another note, and looking at her royal wardrobe, it was paid for by Charles and included as it did bespoke Givenchy and Dior (among others), I'm glad he wasn't tight! He did right to facilitate that. Especially as working royals don't accept freebies.

Princess Anne and Zara and Mike Tindall are big horse racing supporters, so I expect they might be a bit more front and centre - I don’t think they’ve ever been in the carriage parade? They may well be this year (we know Zara’s been working with her stylist for Ascot from the instagram picture she posted of her in a fab floral headpiece!)

gluenotsoup · 18/06/2023 12:06

The Dior rumours could be interesting. I agree with Serenster that when she’s worn Dior previously they really haven’t been my favourites, apart from the cream pregnancy kaftan style. I thought the same about Harry’s suit, there was just something that wasn’t quite high end looking about the fit and even the fabric. I agree that accessories are very often Megan’s strong point and an affiliation there could be great.

Papergirl1968 · 18/06/2023 12:23

I love Meghan's casual jumper, jeans and flats look but she looks so thin. I am literally about four times her size.
I don't like Kate or Camilla's outfits. Sophie looked good though.
The Wales ' fathers day photo was nice but clearly posed and colour co-ordinated, which makes me wonder why no one brushed Charlotte's hair.
Is William likely to have an investiture as Prince of Wales, do we think, like Charles did at Caenarfon Castle?

Maireas · 18/06/2023 12:25

No Investiture as I understand it, @Papergirl1968 . He swore fielty at the Coronation, so that was done then.
I think it's just regarded as unnecessary.

MrsLeonFarrell · 18/06/2023 12:49

I usually like Meghan's casual wardrobe but am less keen on her formal clothes. They often don't seem to fit quite right and don't always suit her shape. I watched a few episodes of Suits recently and she looks much better in her wardrobe on that show because someone (probably her) has obviously thought about how you dress her body type.

I thought that the Jubilee cream coat dress looked bulky and didn't seem to go with the hat which was lighter and summery. Not sure if Dior is the right brand to dress her.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/06/2023 12:49

Yes @Maireas and I'm not sure how well it would've gone down with the Welsh these days. Im not sure we'll ever see a big PoW investiture like Charles' again.

chesterelly1 · 18/06/2023 14:59

I think if William was getting an Investiture we'd have heard about it by now. Scottish Coronation due on 5th July. Would love to see Camilla in some shiny new Order of the Thistle robes. Not heard much about it other than the part of Edinburgh Castle where the Honours of Scotland (Scottish Crown Jewels) are stored is closed 4th - 6th to allow them to be used and Stone of Destiny will be brought North again. Service at St Giles Cathedral on 5th with around 100 in attendance including the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay (it took me a second or two to realise that is of course William & Kate). I think I shall have to start sharpening my elbows for a good viewing spot on the Royal Mile.

Maireas · 18/06/2023 15:57

Yes, @KillingMeDeftly - in fact there have only been two Investitures, Edward VIII and Charles. It was one of these faux Medieval 20thc events for the sake of unity. Not a tradition at all. There were serious threats made by Welsh nationalists both for the ceremony and against Charles himself.
Interesting about the Honours of Scotland, @chesterelly1 - I'll look out for that.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/06/2023 16:21

I didn't know a Scottish ceremony was planned. Did the late queen have one? I bet Kate is digging out the tartan as we speak! But will William? I don't think I've seen a photo of him in a kilt since he was a child, like in this photo.

(You have to admire Charles' commitment - even his sling is tartan!)

Maireas · 18/06/2023 16:37

Charles' sling! Unusual for the late Queen not to be in tartan north of the border!
No, @KillingMeDeftly , no ceremony..QE2 just went for a brief and formal reception . No dressing up.

OP posts:
MotherofPearl · 18/06/2023 16:48

Charles's sling reminds me of Mathilde's Matching Masks from Covid days! Grin

KillingMeDeftly · 18/06/2023 17:06

Looking at Diana and Fergie it struck me afresh how unfair the jibes about the latter's weight were. They look about the same size in the photo.

I do hope that in private the Wales children get to wear more normal clothes. I bet Louis absolutely rocks a dinosaur t-shirt!

I once read that they have a 'work' wardrobe which is a bit more formal to delineate from home - a bit like wearing school uniform. Charlotte wore a purple jumper and jean shorts on the day they helped with the Scouts. I imagine that's closer to what she normally wears. I bet Louis does have a favourite Dino t shirt.

Bit late to the party for the Trooping of the Colour, but I liked Kate's dress and hat. The green really suited her. That said I love the original black version so much more. It would be great to see her work with different designers. Princess Anne looked fabulous. I do wonder if she was born later if she might have served in the military.

chesterelly1 · 18/06/2023 18:20

I don't think we'll see anything too formal I'm going to predict a Saltire blue dress for Kate, Charles in a kilt and order of the thistle robes for William and Camilla.
I'm sure I've said before I think William would suit a kilt if it was styled casually (gratuitous photo of Sam for illustrative purposes). I'd love to see Louis in a kilt, wee boys at wedding vibe, peak cuteness.

@chesterelly1 - braw! Talking of which, will we see Major Johnny? 😍
I may be wrong, but I think it's just the King and Queen going, not anyone else.

Thought you were lusting after Johnny Major for a moment there @Maireas!
