Kate always looks elegant - with her figure it would be impossible not to! But I don't like the green ensemble. It's quite a departure from her previous Troopings as she usually wore pastels.

StartupRepair · 17/06/2023 23:08

Always think it is clever to get the hat to match so perfectly in colour when there are two different designers. Does she choose the dress first then take it to Philip Treacy? Or is it just good luck?

SqueakyDinosaur · 17/06/2023 23:22

<dives in with the Boucheron Wave tiara very firmly attached to her>

This is a great photo. Kate's dress is by Andrew Gn. Is that a departure for her? I don't think I've seen her wear the brand before.

The buttons are meant to nod to the Union flag no?

chesterelly1 · 17/06/2023 23:51

I'm on the fence with Kate's dress (plainer buttons would've improved it no end) but my main concern is that if it's been chosen as a nod to the Irish Guards then are we in for years of green frocks? I loved Camilla's look when in the carriage but on the balcony she just merges with the actual uniforms.

George looks very like Earl Spencer in that photo.

I really love Kate's outfit today and think her silhouette is super elegant. Am I the only one?!

No, I loved it too

At first I thought the buttons were over fussy but it's growing on me every time I see it.

After reading this thread I have started wondering what Catherine looks like off duty. How much of what she wears is her own taste and how much is the dressing for occasion and her role?

Serenster · 18/06/2023 07:36

I have come around to liking Kate’s look. My first reaction was that it was quite an elderly look - one I wouldn’t be surprised to see Caroline of Monaco wearing. But I do love Andrew Gn - Michelle Obama wore some great things from him - and I very much appreciate it when Kate decides to move away from safe pastels and restrained designs into something more risky, fashion wise. And seeing how well this outfit photographed, and how the colour made her glow - plus the fabulous hat that looked so dramatic in photos, and I was won over. Not afraid to really stand out among the family group now, either.

Maireas · 18/06/2023 07:36

I think the latter, @MrsLeonFarrell - if you look at the Mother's Day pictures etc.
Upthread I posted William's Father's Day picture, they're very happy and very informal, so I think there's a distinct line that they have drawn.

Good points, @Serenster . Michelle Obama always looks fantastic, and he created some great looks for her.

I have just seen that Meghan is on the verge of signing a multi million deal with Dior. I’ll save my thoughts on that for another thread but if it comes off we should be treated to some great pap shots!

KillingMeDeftly · 18/06/2023 08:18

I'm not sure Meghan's Dior looks were her best. She's so good at casual chic that I think an American designer like Brandon Maxwell or Calvin Klein would be a better fit. Or Jason Wu, though I think he might be Canadian.

Serenster · 18/06/2023 08:44

Meghan’s Dior looks to date (I think - she also wore a vintage swing coat when pregnant).

They are all…fine? The navy dress and the white coat dress are very elegant, but both I think were just too tight (the white coat was really pulley across the back, it made the flap poke out). I don’t think these are her best fashion moments but a long shot, though.

(I did love her look in the pap shots from yesterday - loafers, black skinny trousers and a chunky Breton knit. I aspire to look that good, but alas, do not 😀 )

Meghan wore a white Dior coat and hat to the Platinum Jubilee service last year.
Harry's Coronation suit was also Dior.

Here’s the vintage Dior coat:

Maireas - the pictures loaded unhelpfully, but the bottom right one in my first post is a gallery of three different Dior outfits, including the Platinum jubilee coat.

KillingMeDeftly · 18/06/2023 08:49

I like the vintage coat and I loved the navy boat neck dress at the time but didn't realise it was Dior. I assumed Givenchy.

Maireas · 18/06/2023 08:52

Oh, I'm so sorry, @Serenster , I can see it now.
The long maternity gown was criticised at the time, but I loved it, the flow and the drape at the neck. You could also wear it on a yacht with deck shoes 😉!

Interesting about Meghan and Dior.
I agree with pp and think she does casual chic fabulously well. I too aspire to that breton chunky jumper and jeans look, but being large of boob and bottom, it doesn't translate quite as well 🙄😂
I don't think she suits very formal looks and don't like any of those Dior outfits on her. She looks great in sleek dresses (thinking that fab yellow sleeveless shift and the turquoise/blue dress in that heavily posed rainy umbrella pic) but when she adds a jacket or coat, it shortens her outline.

LadyEloise1 · 18/06/2023 09:18

I'm a sucker for a sparkly button Blush

Ohpleeeease · 18/06/2023 09:20

Often the problem with Meghan’s clothes are the fit. Dior will sort that if they want her showcasing their clothes.

Eaumyword · 18/06/2023 09:34

@Maireas oh that is a gorgeous photo! Really lovely!
Obvs wouldn't know, but looking at how relaxed and 'normal' they look in their clothes, I imagine there is a definite divide between official outings for 'the job'and home life. I like to think of them in jeans (skinnies, obvs!) and wellies at home!

I think she was at that stage of pregnancy where you think "sod it, I just want to be comfortable"! Nice to be able to be comfortable in a Dior kaftan though, and if it was silk it would've felt lovely to wear.
