@mizu - if the Cotton Linen Panelled Dress is in the sale, I do recommend it. Much longer than normal.

On preloved - I've mainly sold dresses and mainly bought knitwear recently.

I've realised that my most common mistakes (when buying new) are either buying too many similar items (I just end up wearing the versions I like best) or keeping purchases when the colour doesn't quite suit me (not terrible- just blah).

mizu · 08/06/2023 20:44

@Stoic123 I do have the garment dyed linen easy dress in black coffee which is longer and much more flattering.

MiracleToast · 08/06/2023 21:20

That’s great intel @ToastCosILoveIt 🙏🏽

@dudsville i could go a bit of hot springs with lithium! And a lack of tan lines!

MiracleToast · 08/06/2023 21:36

I now want so many things… but I don’t think they’ll be in the sale—maybe a Toast Miracle will happen? ✨✨✨

lordloveadog · 08/06/2023 21:43

Nodding to @Stoic123 - am also on a viscose dress embargo. I try them and like them and keep them but I do not really wear them. Except peaks dresses, because loose.

Succumbed today and ordered some things to try inc the new blue dress with the yellow embroidery. Won't receive and have chance to try until a week on Sunday, but will update then.

Not sure if blue dress will be wonderful or if I will look like my grandmother in her housecoat in 1983. My grandmother was beautiful and clever and creative and the excellent care she gave her children and grandchildren passes down the generations. So I'm not joining the aging misogynists on that thread in knocking grannies. But she would be appalled at spending that much on something that looked like her housecoat. So let's hope it doesn't.

Last lot all went straight back, including ikat dress which was beautiful fabric and colour but not good on curvy figure. You'd want height plus a need to emphasize bust, I think.

Thanks for new thread. 😊

Stravaig · 08/06/2023 23:33

@lordloveadog I bought a Toast dress some years back, not at all my usual style, especially because the shape and print reminds me of those my grandmother used to wear! Green cupro-cotton with a large botanical print in turquoise and gold. I don't wear it often, but I smile every time I see it.

lordloveadog · 09/06/2023 06:35

@Stravaig that is a beautiful dress! I'd certainly have bought it, if I'd known about Toast then!

dudsville · 09/06/2023 07:18

I'm loving the granny appreciation on here. I spent a long time not being interested in my appearance. Then was suddenly inspired by my mother and granny, both great sewers.

Stoic123 · 09/06/2023 07:36

@Stravaig - that is absolutely beautiful...but would probably just sit next to my other gorgeous viscose dresses in the wardrobe and be admired everytime I opened up to grab something else.

Has made me determined to get a couple out and wear them.

Stoic123 · 09/06/2023 07:43

@lordloveadog - would have bought it too. The colours are perfect.

Snowyowl78 · 09/06/2023 07:56

@Stoic123 i have the same viscose issue- I have 4 (!) toast viscose dresses now, I love 2 of them but they are slightly smarter than my lifestyle requires, I have worn them for birthdays and special occasions though. One of them is the leaf print tie one from last year, which I wonder if I will have to sell. I love the shape and I would wear it as an every day dress but as a pale slightly pink person I am not sure if the colours do me any favours. I thought about dying it but that would be an insult to the lovely pattern. So it just hangs in my wardrobe, being admired and tried on from time to time. I’m not allowed anymore! Cotton every day dresses only.

Saurus72 · 09/06/2023 08:03

As someone who wears Toast viscose dresses around 60% of the time, what is it that makes you wary of them? They’re comfy, easy to wash and iron (I never ever dry clean), just lovely! They’re completely flexible - I wore one to a meditation/sound healing class the other day - I’m the opposite of a woo woo gal but it all felt very Toast to me.

Stoic123 · 09/06/2023 08:18

@Saurus72- I think it's the smart vs casual thing as @Snowyowl78 puts. I really just need to sling them on. I like idea of them in autumn with boots.

Saurus72 · 09/06/2023 08:23

Definitely sling them on! I wear them for beach walks in the winter with walking boots and a big coat, perfect!

Snowyowl78 · 09/06/2023 08:32

@Saurus72 i have 3 x easy dresses which I love for dinner out or special occasions etc but they feel very dressed up. I have become quite casual over lockdown and also my boyfriend is a bit on the casual side so I feel a bit silly dressing up. I think the leaf print one would be casual enough but the wrong colours. Also, in summer I felt they might be a bit sweaty?

Countmeout · 09/06/2023 08:36

I find them a bit warm sometimes @Saurus72 but have worn them for occasions like @Snowyowl78 and also for the odd time I do a bit of work (6/7/8 times a year or so) . I , too have a little collection of them, my favourite is the falling leaves and the one with the fans on it. I sort of feel they’ll never really date .

Alpacasoft · 09/06/2023 08:38

I'm also guilty of buying viscose dresses because I like the designs but I've stopped as I don't really like the fabric.
I've got at least 2 unworn in my wardrobe, perhaps I should ebay.

In the summer I prefer cotton or linen and in the winter I'm thermalled up to the eyeballs , wearing wool, cashmere etc.
I would love to waft about in a thin viscose dress but I feel the cold too much !

Snowyowl78 · 09/06/2023 08:46

@Alpacasoft oh yes linen works for me too

Snowyowl78 · 09/06/2023 08:46

@Alpacasoft oh yes linen works for me too

I absolutely love it but it has to be a nice heavy weight or combined with other natural fibres.

Saurus72 · 09/06/2023 09:22

Yes, definitely too warm when it’s super hot. For me they work until it’s over mid-20 degrees. I find them v flexible - i wear jumpers over and woolly tights under in Winter, and with flat sandals in summer. I think I tend towards smart/dressy so they’re perfect for me. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without Toast dresses, stresses me out just thinking about it 😬

Stoic123 · 09/06/2023 10:14

@Alpacasoft - agree about viscose texture. Patterns are ao pretty though.

I'm wearing a Cotton Cashmere Check dress (2020/2021?) from Toast this morning, while still cooler, and the fabric feels divine on. Such a comfort wear.

Noeggsontoast · 09/06/2023 10:22

I love the viscose dresses and wear a dress about 60% of the time. I wear them for work though all seasons and out for occasions as well as more casually. In winter with a long sleeved super thin polo or thermal top under or jumper over, with cardigans and tanks and a variety of boots and sandals. I have quite a few and whilst I wear lots of dresses I haven't bought a single Toast dress so far this year. Which is highly unusual for me. I tried the green Bryn but didn't like it on me.

Stoic123 · 09/06/2023 11:41

Loving the viscose dress inspo!
