I've known some truly lovely - and hilarious - nuns over the years.

Dreamy wardrobe! I dream of a toast summer wardrobe!

Just went to have another wee look at the sale. Only around 300 items now, surely they’ll be having a new drop or some reductions soon….

Plumpciousness · 20/06/2023 12:44

Dee1224 · 20/06/2023 11:13

That’s so nice @ilovecherries - try remember that instead!

I read an article recently that said our brains are programmed to remember negative experiences and comments rather than pleasant so that we ‘learn’ from them. Since then I have been trying very hard to ‘forget’ past unpleasantness , or at least not give a nasty memory the oxygen of publicity if/when it rears its ugly head!

And I read that neural pathways to memories become stronger the more often we access that memory. So to counter the easily-come-to-mind-but-unwanted negative memories, build up a library of positive memories and revisit them regularly to build a strong pathway. They will spring to mind more easily and help to crowd out negative thoughts.

Does anyone know how to get these marks out of my toast shirt? No idea what it is but it's right on the front.
I put it away at the end of last summer after trying all the normal things, vanish etc, but I really want to wear it again.

Do you know what the stain is?

Dee1224 · 20/06/2023 13:04

Good advice @Plumpciousness !

Noeggsontoast · 20/06/2023 13:11

I will say that whilst I have my rules/policies, I most certainly do not have a capsule wardrobe. The latest rule I'm trying to adhere to for 2023 is want vs need and dampening my triggers to buy.

I used to buy a lot of clothes, but this year I implemented a spreadsheet, I have a budget which is still generous so I don't feel constrained. I track each purchase against want or need. I sit on items and wait wait wait instead of doing what I'd usually do which is just buy. My worst trigger is work - reward or cheer myself up.

Want is not banned entirely, focussing my spending is what I'm encouraging, thinking about my purchases and being mindful.

This sale I honed my purchases - bought 3 things and kept 3 things. I resisted buying more though I wanted to and could easily have done.

Overall this method is working for me and Ive bought less in 2023. I've also managed my triggers too. I hope I start to cement this as natural behaviour as it's taking a lot of will power currently.

I do feel satisfied when I see my spreadsheet, the low number of wants and budget remaining in my clothing allowance.

I am quite pleased with my progress.

The strata check dress that I'm wearing today at work is starting to annoy me a bit: Even though it is plenty big enough, it is gaping between the buttons on the chest. Arrrghh
I am wondering if the Maya dress, which looks a bit like the Strata, but without buttons, is smallish on the chest? I have my eyes on the navy one...

Alpacasoft · 20/06/2023 13:29

Very interesting discussion about which things to keep.
I'm a tall person and have spent so many years trying to get too short stuff to work.
It just doesn't.
I'm an hourglass with incredibly long arms and legs and can look gangly in clothes that are are too short.
Now I check the length on dresses and trousers and don't bother to order under a certain length.
I know which colours, collar, sleeves look good on me and which don't.
If it's not right and a small alteration won't fix it then it's a no as I know I won't reach for it when I'm deciding what to wear.
I also have had several dresses made for me from an online Linen workshop and it's phenomenal how brilliant this is.
I have a mental list of what my wardrobe needs currently.
I've just had the most amazing luck in a charity shop and got a White company linen dress (£12)and a Poetry jacket (£8!)
The jacket is similar to the toast Garment dyed cotton jacket in cream, but with a little stripe.
Both have the original tags on so not someone else's perfect buy but they are mine!

Do you know what the stain is?

No, I’m afraid not and unfortunately the shirt has also been ironed probably settting the stain in. I’m going to try the solutions suggested on here to see if they work.

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 20/06/2023 13:58

Sorry to jump into such thoughtful comments with a prosaic question but @ilovecherries does your photo accurately represent the colour of the Maya dress? It 'reads' more autumnal / brown than it looks on the website where the blue colour looks dominant.

I’m wearing the Maya today in a 12, with a 32G chest. There’s loads of room, no pulling at all.

Beautiful colours @ilovecherries / I am sad that I couldn’t get on with the Maya - it made me look too short and Elizabethan - I seemed all sleeve🤣

Well done on your vintage purchases @Alpacasoft!

Thanks @Dee1224

That's how I roll if I do buy things and they aren't right -it's someone's perfect buy.
Though I tend to be very firm with myself after a big wardrobe overhaul 2 years ago.

I loved the fabric of the Maya but it didn't work for me around the bust either.
I'm a 32 FF but you could look straight down the front at my bra!

BettinaInDenmark · 20/06/2023 14:46

Thanks @ilovecherries and @Alpacasoft for your Maya comments

ScottishMouse · 20/06/2023 14:47

Lovely to catch up on everyone’s thoughts on my morning musings.
I popped out of the office at lunchtime and went to try the Selma dress. It was a very nearly, but I found it a little too big around the waist, especially at the back. It just didn’t look as neat as the Edith dress that I have on. So back on the rail it went.
I also returned the two dresses I was swithering about. I liked them both a lot but being very strict with myself, I know I wouldn’t get the amount of wear out of them that would make me feel they were earning their keep.
In sleuthing news, they told me in store that they had just received pictures of what is coming in the next drop, and that it would be coming in the next few weeks.

It’s last year’s and I think it is more autumnal than the current one. I’d say the picture is accurate for colour.

Ah thanks @ilovecherries and that makes sense - they look completely different! I think I may order as it looks like a lovely dress don't need any more navy dresses though

@ScottishMouse have you tried / looked at this dress? Only asking as you mention preferring the fitted look of the dress you are wearing now. I love this dress, it is fitted and a bit feminine with the pleat but also has that utilitarian Toast vibe. Very wearable as I wore it with either a roll neck top underneath or cardigan over in winter and on its own in summer (it could work on warm summer's day but not heatwave weather).

I feel this could be good also: https://www.toa.st/collections/sale/products/indigo-stripe-organic-cotton-shirt-dress-indigo-blue-ecru

In terms of how I buy, I am like a PP where I like too much and have to rein myself in. I try to focus on wardrobe gaps and we arability but I do get my head turned a lot.

faustina · 20/06/2023 16:08

@ilovecherries that dress has inspired me to put one into my basket. It's almost identical in shape to one I had in the 70s from Laura Ashley

It's been really interesting to read about everyone's choices for their wardrobes. I suddenly realised the other day that the things I most wear (minus a few style tweaks) have barely changed my whole adult life. I'm not really sure what that says about me!!

ScottishMouse · 20/06/2023 16:19

@MaroonedOnADesertIsland , I’m really looking for dresses for the hot weather, so not sure either of those would work. I really like the indigo stripe one though, and thought about ordering, but left it too late and now it is oos in a 12. Will watch for a return though. Does anyone have it to advise on sizing?

Saurus72 · 20/06/2023 16:24

V impressed that my first return that I took to an In Post locker on Saturday has already been refunded need. Maybe more sale items will be added soon? Though I need absolutely nothing 🙄

Snowyowl78 · 20/06/2023 16:30

@Saurus72 i looked back and last year they didn’t add anything new by the looks of it, but they did reduce prices 2 weeks after the first sale drop

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/06/2023 16:33

I'm really channelling Toast today. Fracaps from the spring, bag from last summer and citrus dress from the sale, sized down to a 10 within which there's plenty of room. It's a shame they don't sell underwear: I'd be wearing that too! Off to the theatre.

Gorgeous dress Toast. What are you going to see?

has anyone got the drift check dress? I think I prefer the pinafore version but it hasn’t gone in the sale.

Laska2Meryls · 20/06/2023 17:08

@ToastCosILoveIt I really love that dress but I have just spent most of the day sorting out my wardrobe (s) and bagging up stuff for the charity shop.. its really shocking how much I have !!

Anyway I have kept all of my Toast and have decided to go all Sewing bee on a couple of things that really could do with some alteration, ( slight letting out sadly ) in the bust area. I could ebay - but the hassle , I just cant face it .. -
Also, as as they are v old sale pieces , I dont feel too worried.. one of them is an old 'citron ' linen top which is exactly the colour of the fenugreek balloon trousers, and together they look like a jumpsuit..

Was surprised that two pairs of old size 8 Alix striped trousers still fit because I have certainly put on weight since I bought them , didnt wear them last summer ( because I was convinced that they wouldn't fit) and am currently more like a 12 /14 in high street!
I am currently wearing another brilliant sale but from a couple of years ago.. The linen Mexican tile print kaftan
