@JofraArchersFastestBall I have last year's Maya and the yellowish one you linked to - love them both and the sizing is the same. Both are in a 10 (I'm a standard high street 12, with not much in the chest department).

Snowyowl78 · 16/06/2023 09:53

I have four parcels coming today! I feel a bit silly about it. Dreading and excited about the posties arrival. One of the reasons I like separate orders is that you can choose to send some things back right away and you still have spare packaging for other returns you decide on later.

Here it is!

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/06/2023 10:03

Loving all of the updates on clothes and what we are wearing. @ilovecherries you’re looking fab in all of your dresses.

I have the brown Maya from last year: a 10 although I am busty but it was cut big. Interesting to hear that it is a similar size this year. I am tempted but not sure on the colour way for me (and buying too much anyway).

dudsville · 16/06/2023 10:17

I regretted not getting that pj set @Dee1224 , your use of it as a top is perfect. I also love those dresses @ilovecherries and @JofraArchersFastestBall and always feel a tinge of regret that I didn't discover toast sooner.

I noticed this week when ironing my olive oil dress that the fabric is going to wear a lot quicker than any of the others. Does anyone else have this and found the same? It's so summery that I've only worn it perhaps weekly over the course of 3 months last year. And I think this is only it's 2nd or 3rd summer, so only just out of the closet. That's nothing compared to the french blue check dress that gets worn at least weekly if not more often as it's the perfect lazing about home item for me. That and my other dresses have no wear in them yet, except for the olive oil one. Similarly I think my linen trousers wear more quickly than the cord or cotton ones. I think the olive oil dress will in future be something I can wear for chores! I think it was only about £60 when I picked it up in a sale.

What items do you all have that seem to wear more quickly?

Noeggsontoast · 16/06/2023 10:43

@JofraArchersFastestBall I had to size down to the 6 in the maya dress, I found it very oversized.

@dudsville I have the olive oil dress but haven't noticed it being any different in durability to my other dresses.

@ilovecherries that's another fabulous dress you have!

Am awaiting my delivery too this morning - should be here in the next hour it says but the tracking log says it's in another town so who knows! Just my two items - the Maeve dress and green linen cardigan. If they work they're going straight in my suitcase for hols next week. I did ho back in and order the citrus tie neck Donegal cardigan as I missed it in the winter sale. Hopefully that will arrive tomorrow.

No Toast for me today - Marimekko dress instead.

Hope everyone's delighted with their deliveries.

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/06/2023 11:04

First delivery for me: the hemp jeans in a 12 are roomy and so I have reordered in a 10 to compare. Ditto the tie neck print fluid dress in citrus green: too big I think in a 12 so trying a 10.

I ordered the poplin easy pleated trousers in a 10: they fit but not sure the pleats at the front are flattering, irrespective of size.

The patch pocket poplin dress in sunshine yellow in a 10 is a no brainer as I already have it in the blue colour way from last year.

I am not sure on the wave strip sleeveless sweater as I don’t know if I would wear it.

elsewhere in the order were two shirts for DH, both bought in M and L so clearly I am unconfident in their men’s sizing.

Interestingly my first order (and top of my wish list) was the Prince of Wales jacket and matching trousers and these aren’t here yet. I had tried them on in the Islington shop and so I am fairly confident that the 10s will fit my size 12 body.

Laska2Meryls · 16/06/2023 11:14

Sales arrivals:

Cleo tee is a keeper really nice and goes perfectly with my new mallard Seasalt linen trousers. Also, really pleased with the red felt slide slippers -I had the orange ones a couple of years ago and they have lasted brilliantly , but really need to go now) ...

Stack check trousers...., jury is still out.. I ordered these in the last sale and sent them back ... They are nice but maybe a bit more like something I would have worn to work .. I am not sure if my now non- working life needs them.. Ill keep them on the 'review' pile for a few days...

Non-sale midnight linen tunic dress:- I am glad that I scratched the itch, but just not me.. I also dont like the way the sleeves stick out.. so going back ..

Red cedar socks .. these are so thin! Definitely dont think that they are even worth the sale price.. but as they came inthe box with the slippers it seems a bit weird to send them back in it.. I suppose that I could just put them in a plastic envelope..

ilovecherries · 16/06/2023 11:24

How embarrassing. Dd must be out so multiple parcels delivered to neighbour. Two toast parcels, a box with an huge straw hat, a new walking stick, and a box of bras and an eBay parcel. Oops. Slightly mortified at the photo of the pile of parcels on their doorstep. Anyway, they are lovely neighbours. In a non-mumsnet approved way we don’t socialise with each other at all but we take in deliveries, let each others dogs out for a pee if we are out longer than expected, water each others tomatoes and take each others bins in depending on who is home first on bin day. Plus we politely ignore each others foibles in relation to parking, talking in the garden and trampolines. Now all I need to do is persuade DD to visit us and bring all parcels with her.

AFingerofFudge · 16/06/2023 11:33

Argh! One of my parcels is lost! I had the despatch email on Wednesday from Toast, paid for delivery as I'm impatient, and although collected from their warehouse, DHL have not managed to deliver it to their sorting office yet. Annoying as customer service have said I need to wait until Tuesday before they'll do anything about it. Chances are the items will have gone out of stock by then.

Other order has arrived, most going back apart from the Mariner trousers, both the denim and hemp. Worried they might have been unflattering with the gathers at the waistband (I have a large stomach) but actually they look great I think!!
Also keeping the long sleeves denim dress - I have numerous denim dresses from Toast but this looks fabulous and so it'll be staying. More of an Autumn weight, so won't be wearing it in this heat!

ilovecherries · 16/06/2023 11:40

Oh no, what a pain. I’ve stopped buying next day delivery as DHL here is totally pants. I wish they’d just use a RM express service. Plus they won’t use my safe place or deliver to a pick up point, and their depot is a 70 round trip (live in sticks), so you need to wait for a re delivery at some snow iciest time.

ilovecherries · 16/06/2023 11:40

Snow iciest time = some random and unspecified time.

Hi,

Re: Sales arrivals

Garment dyed black tee in Small is a keeper - I already have it in Cumin in Medium, (which is lovely, but a bit big).

Cotton marl jumper in mustard is going straight back, despite my loving it when I tried it on instore. The arms are too small, bizarrely.

Clogs are lovely but too small 🙃

Painted top in 12 looks lovely but too big and not comfortable.

Painted dress in 10, (tried it before in 12). A bit tight on top, but I am still considering it as OH said it’s ‘ok’ and sister likes it.

So angry with myself re: linen trousers. I know my existing pair in Medium are too big, so why oh why did I order identical style in same size??? Now sold out- debating whether to send back in hopes of a Small reappearing as a return or keeping and ‘making work’.

Chestnut stripy tee still en route…

Dee1224 · 16/06/2023 12:22

@dudsville - thinking of your earlier post - I am not that impressed with how my linen trousers are holding up - I have only worn them a few times but the material has gone baggy and is definitely thinning. I still love them, though.

Dee1224 · 16/06/2023 12:42

Hi,

A quick couple of questions for those of you with the painted check dress or top: Does the cotton soften with washing and does it shrink?

Thanks

@AFingerofFudge , re the hemp mariner trousers, did you order your high street size? I am a 12 and ordered a 12 and they are generous (not exactly big but slightly worried they will stretch as I wear them). I have ordered a 10 now to compare and will hang on to the 12s until the 10 arrives. They were big around the waist - could pull them out by a couple of inches.

Hi,

A quick couple of questions for those of you with the painted check dress or top: Does the cotton soften with washing and does it shrink?

I have the dress and it is def starting to soften with washing (washed maybe 3/4 times), but it hasn’t shrunk at all. I love it, dithered too long about the top and it was gone.

Dee1224 · 16/06/2023 13:06

Thanks @ilovecherries - that’s helpful. I’ll be sending the painted top in 12 back, (probably be too big for you), but I am guessing there will be other returns.

I don’t know when I am going to accept that trapeze tops just don’t suit me - I keep trying but in vain 🤣

I am expecting the final tee from my order tomorrow so am not sending anything back today to avoid two possible trips to the post. (That also gives me another chance to think about the dress!)

Dee1224 · 16/06/2023 13:13

Sorry, guys. I have another question re: Painted dress. Does it look like a crumpled dishrag after washing?

The reason I am asking is, and I hope you are all sitting down, as you may find this shocking 🤣is that I don’t iron anything- and I mean anything! (Last time I ironed was when I was 18 at uni - did it once, never again!)

My non-ironing works perfectly well with 99.9% of items I have ever owned, but I think the painted dress might be an exception due to the pockets.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

dudsville · 16/06/2023 13:16

That's interesting about the olive oil dress @Noeggsontoast , how do you wash it?

I won't list all the items I'm sending back as it's loads, but I'm also sending those poplin trousers back @ToastCosILoveIt for the same reason.

@Laska2Meryls , re the stack check, how interesting, theyre my ultimate home wear and therefore I struggle to wear them out. I'm going to give that a try.

That's scary/annoying @AFingerofFudge , hope it gets found soon!

That's interesting about how you're finding your linen trousers too @Dee1224 , I thought it was meant to be more durable.

As for new sizing, I would say it's all over the shop, same as the old sizing was, the problem is not solved. I cannot reliably oder my HS size.

My winners so far:

I love the firewood corduroy jacket, it's very light, I love the fabric and style.

I think I'm keeping the painted check in a 10 - I need to try it with a tank underneath it.

I had purposely avoided the landscape dress previously, tried the top and didn't like it, but tried it this time. It is massive, a small is still huge on me, but I would be afraid to go to an xs in case the arms are smaller, as they are they are the arms are just right in the small. And I love this dress! It makes me feel like a stately adult, my hair is greying and looks great withthis dress, I absolutely can't wait to wear it (needs cooler weather) and then I think you won't see me out of it. And I'm going to do the socks and bostons with it.

I really like the striped boatneck tee but am reordering in an XL.

And the tie neck firth, this fabric is gorgeous, but I'm sending it back for a size 10, and then I will be weighing up whether it will look ok or need to be hemmed I'm nearly / not quite 5'7" and this dress touches my ankles, so will it really get worn.

I accidentally bought small socks, so they're all going back.

Final packages arriving tomorrow.

Noeggsontoast · 16/06/2023 13:32

@dudsville I wash everything on a 30 degree silk/delicates wash using the shortest cycle option and never use a tumble dryer on any of my clothes, not even in winter. As gentle as I can get, without doing it by hand.

I'm enjoying reading about everyone's sale purchases.

Snowyowl78 · 16/06/2023 13:34

Winners from me: 3 x dresses of a similar vein, everything else is going back.
lightweight denim sleeveless dress- this is lovely, very large, I ordered the 10 and it’s fine. I am a 14. I’m going to wear it with a tshirt under which I think works if you undo the chest buttons

Eda Black Denim Pinafore Dress | Black × - I think! I am concerned about colour fade but I guess I could redye it if a problem- interested to hear others thoughts.

Garment Dye Linen Side Button Dress | Charcoal - this is my favourite one of all, but it’s about 1 inch right across the chest. Wearable at the moment and optimism says my weight loss in 6 months will make it perfect. Hmm. If I undo the top side button it’s perfect but looks messy so probably not an option. I assume I ordered a small as that was all that’s available and now it’s out of stock and there probably won’t be returns.

all three need taking up as usual.

going back- herb pique shirt- I have too many of these shouldn’t have ordered, bark viscose dress- another viscose dress I won’t wear, as above , Ivy denim tunic dress but wide and just not my favourite, peacoat- seemed massive and overwhelming, mere check lounge dress- weirdly small.

took me some time to try these all on!

faustina · 16/06/2023 13:42

@Dee1224 - which linen trousers are you after? I'm just about to return the oat linen pull ons in an Xs (except they really aren't)

I have a huge dilemma which I wasn't expecting to have - I ordered three jackets and love all of them! The blond AND the firewood corduroy, and the pebble quilted jacket. I wish there were some emergency service I would call on to come and tell me which to keep

The v-neck cotton linen tee is really fitted, and the black smock top just looks nothingy - so they're both going back too

😂 well. Maybe I’m not the best person to have advised you re the painted check dress as I love poplin and iron it hard and hot! I do baby my clothes quite a lot and I don’t crowd them in the washing machine and always hang them to dry. I would say the painted dress benefits from the iron though, even after that.
