Oh but wait…the poplin square neck dress fits perfectly with a tshirt underneath. That was5 really my intention as I was wanting it for warm weather. Hmmmm….it’s back out of the bag for returns and I am thinking about it some more.

Does anyone have it, and how do you wear it? Have you put a top underneath? How do you wear a cardigan with it…with the collar inside the cardigan or over the top of the cardigan…the latter is quite a statement?

Would appreciate thoughts from anyone who has this one. Thanks!

faustina · 15/06/2023 16:53

That's rubbish @ScottishMouse (sorry can't help about the square neck dress). I think I ordered the very same Alixes in the last sale and returned them as they were quite neat. Mind you I have the brass coloured ones in a 6 and actually like they way they fit (it's the same fit as the ones you bought) - it is a bit of a struggle to get them on, but once they are on, they are really nice, and not tight at all
I was very wary of ordering using the 'new sizing' especially as the reviews of quite a few things said it was exactly the same as the old sizing! It's annoying isn't it? Totally puts me off ordering anything preloved unless I actually own it
I hope you find something in your next round of buying.

Two of my orders are arriving tomorrow and them I ordered a top today which I hadn't seen in the sale before - the cotton linen gathered tee, which has already been despatched so should come on Saturday

ScottishMouse · 15/06/2023 16:58

I also have other Alixes @faustina - including the indigo ones I bought from you! I have 6 and 8, but one pair in 8 are great and the other are huge, and the 6 are in between the two. So random. It was worth a punt at sale price though.

I seem to recall that someone wore that dress back to front @ScottishMouse and said it looked better. Worth a try?

Countmeout · 15/06/2023 17:03

I had and returned the poplin dress @ScottishMouse a while back. I felt the neck was too high on me but it’s a beautiful dress.

I wore my ‘nightie ‘ to the pool on holiday @ilovecherries . Not sure if I brave it out at home. It’s great for around the house though.

ScottishMouse · 15/06/2023 15:52

Yes @OftenOrange , I may try ordering the cardigan again if it’s available still. Maybe also the Sutton dress in a 10. It’s crazy how massive the xs in the linen dress is and how tiny the size 6 in the Alix trousers are. You would think they would be aimed at the same people!

I have the Sutton dress. Mines a 12. I'm a 14 so definitely size down!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/06/2023 17:14

That’s disappointing @ScottishMouse I’m surprised about the socks, I do like some of the thinner ones for wearing with sandals, I think I’ve ordered 4 different pairs. Regarding quality I did have to get toast to replace one of my non-sale pairs of socks as they started to unravel from the top.

I rather like the Check Twill Shirt Dress, which looks like the same cut as the Sutton dress, I’m wonder if the sizing is the same in that.

Two of my parcels should be arriving tomorrow, hoping something will be a keeper.

I’ve been wearing my Seasalt cresting waves dress, and it’s really comfortable in this hot weather.

I have the square neck poplin dress in navy, bought in the sale last year. I wore it with a striped long sleeve tee (toast but very old) over the winter and spring. I tried it with a short sleeve tee but it seemed a lot of clutter round the bust area. I also tried it collar out over both a cropped cardi and a longer heavier knit boyfriend cardi and it worked in theory with both but in practice I needed help to get the collar out and sitting properly at the back - which meant a lot of dicking about every time I took my jacket off as you matter how careful I was putting the coat on, the collar rucked up. I liked the look though.

Oh @ToastCosILoveIt , now that is a wild idea!! I am going to try it.

Yes @ilovecherries , I can see that would be an issue with the collar. I bought a shirt with a big collar a few seasons back and returned it for the same reason. Although the dress I would probably mostly wear without other layers over the top, whereas the shirt was definitely for autumn/winter layering.

Thanks for the Sutton info @neveradullmoment99 . I think it is because the sleeves are wider that it looks too big. It is lovely and airy in this weather though. Still undecided about it because of the colours, but will try again later and decide whether to order a smaller size to try.

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 15/06/2023 17:43

@ScottishMouse I have the square collar poplin dress. I've boringly only worn it on its ow but it's a dress I really love, simple but a bit unusual. @ilovecherries has been much more creative with it than me!

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 15/06/2023 17:46

I've bought about 8 items in the sale, the first of two orders is arriving tomorrow. I will report back! I dont think I've ordered anything mentioned by anyone else apart from the neat cardigan. Also 4 pairs of trousers, the sage cord jacket, barrel dungarees and jersey shirt. I darent go in for another look!

dudsville · 15/06/2023 17:57

Re the socks, in the winter sale i bought a thin pair of brown merino not realising that they were ankle socks, which i don't have a use for. They're now bed socks!

dudsville · 15/06/2023 18:13

And spurred on by another poster, some of you will remember what i said i would not order, a more restrained and thoughtful intention.... not including socks... I've ordered about 30 items including knitwear, dresses and pjs. I need none of these (i don't know how to get the face palm emoji).

ilovecherries · 15/06/2023 18:15

Ffs brings up the facepalm emoji. Just for future needs! 😂

Like your style re cutting back too. You do sort of need to see things in the flesh, and they go out of stock so quickly.

Thank you @ilovecherries , it is an eclectic approach to shopping but I do find all the toast things go together. Whenever i go to work i get compliments, and everyone knows now so they ask if it's toast. I say "always".

Noodle421 · 15/06/2023 18:50

@dudsville and you do seem to get a tremendous amount of use and enjoyment from your clothing which is money well spent.

MiracleToast · 15/06/2023 18:53

@ilovecherries i’m so intrigued to know which pyjamas the instagrammer was wearing in Paris?!

So unbelievably hot here again in the highlands—my birthday raffia hat and linen sundress have had so much wear, I’m basically living in them.

My parcel is to arrive tomorrow—praying the dhuggie is nicely oversized and not ridiculously so…

they We’re a colour like this, but a different design - sort of stylised birds. I’m away in the caravan so can’t show you the exact ones as I left them at home. But a sleeveless v neck top with an empire waist. She looked fabulous with birkies, totally owning it.

I love seeing women owning outfits like that—such inspiration.

Hope you’re having a wonderful time in the caravan and have lots of toast outfits with you!

@dudsville I honestly feel so much better about my own order now 🤗. Does anyone buy the men’s clothes? My OH just ordered some shorts, cargo trousers and a t-shirt, I couldn’t really offer any advice on sizing for men’s stuff so he ordered 2 sizes in everything.

I buy men’s clothes for DH but it is hit and miss. He has about 5 really good shirts now and they are favourites of mine. I have never been able to find a pair of trousers that he is happy with. He also has a couple of tee shirts.

This one is my current favourite, bought at full price but he wore it lots before the sale. It is absolutely beautiful. https://www.toa.st/collections/sale/products/half-placket-check-short-sleeve-shirt-mustard

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 15/06/2023 21:30

@dudsville I bought my OH a long sleeved polo in the Christmas sale, sizing was surprisingly accurate. Obviously being Toast that probably won’t apply to everything 😁.

ToastCosILoveIt · 15/06/2023 21:31

I would also like DH to wear the Fracap leather sandals but he won’t.

ToastCosILoveIt · 15/06/2023 21:32

Oh yes, meant to say sizing is reasonable for men, some odd sizing here and there like the women’s.
