Thanks @Countmeout I wasn’t expecting it today so hadn’t prepared a saved list! Managed to order a couple of things that I missed previously (bracken neat cardi, square collar poplin dress, Sutton gingham dress, and also threw in some socks, the garment dyed linen trousers in toffee (though I think I may have tried those in the past and rejected them, the hot weather is making me realise I have very few suitable clothes for it), and the ticking stripe linen dress (which doesn’t have great reviews, so we’ll see).

I will only keep the things I love or the things that fill a current wardrobe gap. I promise!!!

Ahh the ticking dress, I’m really hesitant as the reviews are iffy, however I did pick it up in Harrogate and really admired it, sadly I didn’t try on. I’m still on the fence

dudsville · 14/06/2023 06:48

@Lovelybrowneyedboy and @Norwegianwoodsman , Last yr i only bought two tees full price, so it's definitely either total spend or total ordered. I order loads but i only keep about a 5th or a quarter. But this sale will get better, they'll add more to it once it's open.

I was hoping for the ticking dress too @Firesideknitting but am also hesitant.

ToastCosILoveIt · 14/06/2023 07:39

@dudsville , think it may have been said upthread but I ordered the ticking dress some time ago in a small and it was enormous on me (I am a high street 12). I sent it back. I can see why the XS has sold out as it is the only size that will fit anyone under around a 14. It is a lovely dress but obviously not flattering with those dimensions.

lordloveadog · 14/06/2023 07:52

I have the ticking stripe linen dress and love it. Comfortable and light and flattering. My teenagers even approve.

Its slightly... biblical... but good for wearing in hot weather when you don't want to get burned or somewhere that's hot but you need to be covered. Basically combines coolness with dignity.

Snowyowl78 · 14/06/2023 08:07

I’m trying the canvas peacoat, still expensive but it looks very stylish! Anyone tried? I’ve gone small as the reviews suggests it’s big

dudsville · 14/06/2023 08:12

Between you @ToastCosILoveIt and@lordloveadog that coffin is nailed shut - i often wear my hair in a bun, so i can too easily tip into biblical/homesteader, which isn't me.

lordloveadog · 14/06/2023 08:17

Yes, @dudsville the biblical aspect definitely has to be countered with jewellery and hair style! Or just demeanor

dudsville · 14/06/2023 08:25

A side note re sale for those who put thing in a wishlist and only check that - I just had a look at my wishlist and the sale items were not marked with sale prices, and when I clicked on them they only showed the full price.

dudsville · 14/06/2023 08:27

I think the edgiest my demeanor gets@lordloveadog might be "the cool nun" 😂

ScottishMouse · 14/06/2023 08:27

Sorry to interrupt the sale chat everyone, but I’m wondering if anyone has and can recommend a handheld steamer? I’m sure they have been mentioned on past threads. I’m wondering about one specifically for certain items that are tricky to iron because of the fabric, or multiple seams (I find my poplin shirt tricky to get into the nooks and crannies, ditto the cotton linen pinafore).
Are they worth it? Can someone recommend a specific one?
Thanks!

Noodle421 · 14/06/2023 08:30

@Snowyowl78 I have the canvas Peacoat and I love it. It is a deliberately oversize shape/style but it hangs/swings beautifully when worn. I opted for a medium -(under old sizing I would be a Toast size Small) - any smaller would have been a little tight over my bust when fastened (even though I don’t have a huge chest). However, after saying that I do wish I had tried a small ( they were out of that size in the shop ) before deciding to buy. It’s a little niggle I have as the coat is quite large overall and I wonder whether going down a size would have been better, but it’s borderline, so I will rest easy with my decision ( I haven’t got much choice as I can’t change it now).

Snowyowl78 · 14/06/2023 08:36

Ooh @Noodle421 this is food for thought- I wonder if I should have also tried M, I am normally toast 12, rarely a 10 in dresses but nothing else. I might have to put in another order. Posties going to go mad!
I have a steamer @ScottishMouse i like it, but I wouldn’t say it’s a time saver, often takes me some time to steam a dress but it’s much more practical. It’s the Homeeasy hand steamer. It’s good but I have no basis for comparison.

Noodle421 · 14/06/2023 08:37

@Snowyowl78 apologies, my post was written in haste and I’m not sure whether my comments have offered anything useful. I find a lot of Toast tops/coats are quite tight across my bust area and I’m not sure if it’s me or the garments. If I didn’t have this issue, I would have ordered the small.

Snowyowl78 · 14/06/2023 08:38

@Noodle421 no that’s really helpful! I think I ought to try the medium too

Noodle421 · 14/06/2023 08:49

@Snowyowl78 worth the extra effort I think. It’s always been a niggle with me. They didn’t have a small, so I bought the medium without much thought when I should have taken my time to order the small online to compare.

I’m not sure if you will get a handheld domestic one that will ever compete with an iron. The freestanding ones are probably a lot better but they are the size of a vacuum cleaner so for me storage would be an issue. Having said that, I keep this in the caravan and it’s perfect for a freshen up or smoothing the worst out. It copes fine with light poplin/linen/cotton jersey/voile. Less effective on heavy poplin and not great for corners. And not super fast given the size of the head. Just makes us look less unkempt.

@Snowyowl78 I love that Robyn dress , my favourite of this season . I didn’t order it yet .

Countmeout · 14/06/2023 08:55

I am vacillating over the canvas peacoat @Snowyowl78 . I thought I liked it when it came out. Not sure about sizing. What size are you in Toast normally or even in real life? May try it.

I’ve had 2 dispatch emails. Only waiting for one for the cord jacket and broad checked linen dress.

Noodle421 · 14/06/2023 08:55

I have a favour to ask - please can someone check to see if the cotton linen panel dress (2 colours - slate and dhal) is in the sale? My computer is out of action and my phone won’t let me scroll beyond 200 items !! It’s as if it gets bored with the sale and cuts out. It’s an old phone and I’ve tried repeatedly to view everything without luck. When I do a search for the dress it shows as full price as do the pique tops which I know are discounted. I’ve just ordered the dress full price £225 so I’d be very grateful to anyone who could check this out for me. Many thanks !

Countmeout · 14/06/2023 08:56

Sorry just saw I cross posted with someone giving advice

Snowyowl78 · 14/06/2023 08:59

@Noodle421 its not in the sale

Philips Steam and Go Plus is also supposed to be good. Gets good reviews. It’s been on my list for a few months. Not sure how much use I’ll get out of it as I already have a steam iron I’m very happy with (not hand held) and I’ve not been travelling much lately so perhaps little requirement for a handheld version.

Noodle421 · 14/06/2023 09:27

@Snowyowl78 Thanks for checking the dress. Good to know !!

Snowyowl78 · 14/06/2023 09:27

@Noodle421 i have it in the slate! Is lovely. Had to shorten it as it was very long!

Dee1224 · 14/06/2023 09:33

Hi, all but one of my items has been marked as despatched.

I noticed late last night that a few other items had been added to the sale - fortunately nothing I wanted, (I really need to give up on the idea that the cord dress that’s reduced to £75 is ever going to look good on me in any size- and I have tried a few!)
