Went out in my new frock last night thought I looked rather okay.

I've lost loads of weight recently and feel like heading towards a New Normal Me.

But then scrolling through S&B I find I'm ubiquitous Sad

Aibu to think I should change my style ALREADY?

Also bonus points, for guess my size, age, favourite animal Wink

If you want to be seen as stylish rather than ubiquitous, you just need to view your outfits as you would an equation or a recipe, and be a bit braver.

For example, you chose a blue denim jacket, a mid blue and white floral dress, white / grey trainers and a grey cross body bag. Nothing wrong with each of those ingredients… but there is nothing interesting about them either, nothing brave or requiring flare.

If you had taken just one element - let’s say the bag for this example - and chose a bright fuschia or neon yellow instead, it would have elevated the whole look! Or if the dress had a more adventurous or unusual pattern… or if you wore bright pink lipstick and nails…

It really doesn’t take much to be less boring / ubiquitous and it doesn’t have to take you out of your comfort zone!

Just be braver and make one ingredient spicy!! 😉

Im not sure if your colour blind but she isn't wearing any grey... shes wearing white, blue, beige and sage green.

Love the dress, quite like the bag but it's not a wow combo together. A more primary colour bag (red/yellow) would go better the primary blue in the dress.
The trainers are too heavy and clunky - you need something lighter in style and maybe colour to match the femininity of the dress.
I think you're still wearing a jacket from when you were heavier - maybe time for an updated shorter one?

Of course they are a "thing" but you can't have missed the 100s of posts saying they are a "dated thing".

I was being sarcastic actually with reference to the "dresses and trainers are dated threads. As a combination they aren't a "thing" I ever wore.

Yes exactly. They aren't the latest thing any more. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be worn. Just that they are of their time and their time is becoming "not now"

Oh definitely not asking for tips. Doesn't mean opinions can't be expressed - otherwise what would be the point of starting a thread?

No, no, I'm genuinely enjoying the comments.

PlacidPenelope · 04/06/2023 18:49

In my opinion the outfit doesn't do you any favours at all so the cliche, fashionable or whatever doesn't matter.

Lovely dress and lovely bag OP!

There are some brilliant helpful and knowledgeable posters on S&B, and a small handful who'd literally wear anything if someone said it was 'fashion' and look down on us mere mortals who wear stuff because it's comfortable, or because we don't believe in discarding good clothing before it's worn out, or simply because (gasp) we like it.

IKnowItsNotMine · 04/06/2023 18:57

Like the outfit but the trainers are a big no - I’d wear red or white Toms, maybe converse xx

Bigwildorange · 04/06/2023 18:58

You look lovely, I think that cute white pumps would have suited the dress more, plus either a white or blue bag to pick out the colours in the dress x

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 04/06/2023 18:58

You look fine but I’d have done a darker denim jacket, plainer white trainers like AF1s or white Supergas. I wasn’t keen on the bag either.

Last night I wore a knee length white and black Greek print dress, plastic black sort of Birkenstocks (not any brand), a red and white Zara jacquard jacket and neon green and orange earrings and faux or real Pearl with neon yellow tassel bracelet. Carried a large black bag with sort of pink large flowers (like Chinese ones I think)? Partly to put the jacket and cardigan in.

Goldbar31 · 04/06/2023 18:59

You look lovely.

MenoRageisReal · 04/06/2023 18:59

across the body bags are out of fashion now.

Every woman I see is still wearing them, but I see the chunkier camera style bags being replaced by softer slouchier versions now.

Gustavo1 · 04/06/2023 19:00

I also think you look fab. I read these things about fashion and worry about my wardrobe too. In the end though, I’m just trying to look nice and I don’t stand out as badly dressed amongst my peers. I don’t want to dress like a 20 year old. I’m happy dressing like the early-mid 40s mum that I am to be honest 😂

If you’ve not already said, where is the bag from? I love the colour.

I agree with the poster(s) that said converse/white plimsoles would have been better.

I’d say 40-50ish, size 14 ish and I think you like pandas best

astarsheis · 04/06/2023 19:02

There is quite a bit going on there...however, I think that you are much smaller than that dress is showing. Looks like it is drowning you a bit.
I think you could be showing off that gorgeous new figure a bit more.

KetoQueen · 04/06/2023 19:03

That’s too pretty a dress for trainers 😍

IKR? I suppose that's how some people get their fun,

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 04/06/2023 19:04

I agree with others, size 14 and 40s.

Was surprised the dress is a reasonable price. It’s nice and I also like the other patterns of the dress on the site too.

Who cares??!

You look great!

You are only unreasonable for looking great then ruining your good mood by scrolling through Instagram 😁

Laureltime · 04/06/2023 19:05

SoupDragon · 04/06/2023 17:47

That’s why it doesn’t work.

At no point did the OP say she thought it didn't work. She felt good about herself!

I think we are all aware of this, what being literate and all. Lol. But thanks for telling us. It’s a reference to the many comments saying it doesn’t work and it’s the trainers, jacket and bag.

Jagoda · 04/06/2023 19:05

You look the same size as me, so 14/16.

No idea re age but would guess middle aged.

Agree with PP that the trainers are totally wrong but the dress and jacket are fine. Who cares if it’s a cliche.

babyproblems · 04/06/2023 19:05

I’m not a fan of the dress or denim jacket or any of the colours. The problem for me with this type of look is that it’s a nothing look! What type of look are you aiming for? Are you going for a sort of boho casual style with the floral print and light wash denim? You can get that look way better by wearing a smaller floral print and a cropped knit sweater, with sandals or maybe trainers but it would have to be an on trend brand or style like NB converse or vans. Or just a floral maxi dress and sandals with lots of jewellery and a lose cardigan. It’s the mix of all of it. I don’t think those light wash denim jackets look good on anyone over 13 tbf and I hate big floral prints as they just scream Matalan to me. Sorry if I’m harsh - I have a very critical view on fashion & styling and work in the industry so have seen it all!! I would ask yourself what is your preferred’look’ and then style outfits to that. You look like you have a fab figure but imo this hides it! X

My dress I got is huge was just one size. I’ve actually asked my DM if she can help me take it in as it has a huge skirt, which though it’s great, it’s not overly flattering!

passthegingordon · 04/06/2023 19:06

Some right nasty wankers on this thread

Outofthepark · 04/06/2023 19:06

I love the jacket with the dress, trainers are really chic with this look, but only if they're more delicate and white! You look fab.
