Went out in my new frock last night thought I looked rather okay.

I've lost loads of weight recently and feel like heading towards a New Normal Me.

But then scrolling through S&B I find I'm ubiquitous Sad

Aibu to think I should change my style ALREADY?

Also bonus points, for guess my size, age, favourite animal Wink

Cotton and lycra mix
Dry clean only
Made in China

If I were paying £415 for a summer dress, I'd expect it to be cotton and made in the UK. Preferably washable, too.

If it were cotton only it would have no stretch. The elastene (only 2%) makes it more comfortable, sits better and doesn’t crumple so much.

Why would an American designer make clothes in the U.K.?

@mainsfed I thought I was the only one who had sensory problems with denim jackets! It's why I don't wear jeans either, but I always thought it was just me...

Great to meet a fellow denim refuser! The thought of a denim jacket collar touching my bare neck makes my toes curl. And also touching my bare arms.

I do wear jeans sometimes but very rarely. It feels like heavy fabric encasing my legs and binding in my waist!

I don’t wear them either but it’s not a sensory thing I don’t think they look nice.

Weirdos! Denim is fine. Velvet on the other hand………. 😂

I think you might be right, I just googled denim jacket looks and there’s not on that appeals to me. I am biased though ☺️

ZenNudist · 04/06/2023 20:18

Size 16, 55, penguin 🐧

I also wear dresses and white trainers and denim jackets. Shoot me.

I think the outfit is fine and the bag lovely. Denim jacket quite bulky and dress a touch too long with those busy trainers. I think you'd have been better showing more ankle and lighter trainers.

I like the front side of velvet but I don’t like it when the inside part that touches my skin is a weird knit texture.

I do have to laugh because the what are you wearing today thread is full of frumpy disasters by supposed self confessed fashionistas. OP you look lovely

That thread is lovely!

Lol, I’m exactly the opposite. And don’t get me started on peaches.

EasterBreak · 04/06/2023 20:20

You look lovely I'd say you're 33.

I didn’t know penguin was a body shape! I just pictured Danny DeVito as the Penguin in Batman Returns! 🤣

You look lovely and I hope you enjoyed your evening 😊

MyDogStoodOnABee · 04/06/2023 20:22

Darker denim jacket and bright white trainers needed, they are too 80s geography teacher, love the dress though.

46, size 14-16 and otter

Bethany7 · 04/06/2023 20:22

I love peaches! Butternut squash on the other hand is the devil’s work.

JDHC · 04/06/2023 20:25

You look lovely and the dress is lovely but those trainers are doing the outfit no favours!

Lecoqdor · 04/06/2023 20:28

Hidinginaonesie · 04/06/2023 20:13

Weirdos! Denim is fine. Velvet on the other hand………. 😂

I can cope with velvet as long as it's lined (I have a couple of ageing Boden velvet skirts which are fully lined).

But my life is basically a list of clothes I can't wear because they feel wrong. My pet hate is those 'Grandpa' type necklines, where they don't have a proper collar but a bit of fabric which I can feel touching either side of my neck.

I have no idea whether denim would suit me as it's too unwearable Grin

@Hidinginaonesie Oh god, why did you have to remind me about peaches?

You look lovely OP. Ignore the so-called experts on this thread. On the previous threads people were falling over themselves to say that look was a uniform and everyone looked the same - on this one they are telling you your trainers/shoes/bag are wrong and you should change them so you look identical to everyone else wearing that combination. Honestly, you can't win on S&B.

Fair enough - in that case, made in the USA. I doubt that the Chinese workforce making these dresses are paid any more or have better working conditions than those who make Pretty Little Thing crap, and I doubt that the quality is much better despite the price tag.

I also have an aversion to elastane - I can't bear the feeling of it. It makes cotton feel heavy, plus it is just wrong-feeling generally.

ememem84 · 04/06/2023 20:32

LaffTaff · 04/06/2023 19:57

Its a mulberry amberley (though I can't tell from the pic if its authentic or not).

Ah thank you! It’s super cute. Slightly out of price range for a “just because I saw it and want it” bag. But it’s on the list for when I get the “bonus I deserve and have nothing else to spend it on” bonus.

Fisharejumping · 04/06/2023 20:34

I don’t know what size you are and I don’t care. All I can see is that you look really lovely. I like your style.
