Right so we should stop wearing...

...floral midi/maxi dress with white trainers because it’s ubiquitous, a ‘middle aged women’s summer uniform’ (can’t forget the cropped denim jacket)

Beige, cream, camels any neutrals because it’s dull and bland.

Skinny jeans are out, they are not trendy.

What else should we stop wearing?

Don't care what anyone wears, but can people stop repeating that thing about the weight of other people's expectations? Been posted in various iterations about 10 times now, like some sort of cult mantra.

A little harsh Smile but I do think it's interesting how the expression has been adopted on this thread.

Human beings are social animals and I think we're always going to be influenced by what other people wear, do and say. Better to acknowledge and be aware of it I think.

@Fashionotista and @SquirrelFan here you go: https://www.popsyclothing.co.uk/collections/womens-pump-shoes/products/dinosaur-print-canvas-pumps

I had been moaning to dh that all the cool stuff only comes in kid's sizes and then saw these. Fate I tell you Grin

Oh this is fate, I can't not buy these especially as I love both dinosaurs and dark teal clothing/shoes.

You do know that the 'advice' on 'what to wear and not to wear' is a marketing ploy simply to sell more clothes?

Look at flares- jeans. They were the thing in the late 60s and 70s, then no one would be seen dead in them and now flares and girlfriend girls are the 'thing'.

I've just spent the afternoon sorting out clothing for Summer and I don't think I need any more.

I'm not good at getting rid of old stuff and will wear it round the house etc

conversely it's very boring to still be wearing the same style for 15 years and not move with the times.

Boring to whom?

Tottenhamsucktoday · 03/06/2023 17:19

This can't be true. All the neutral broderie and linen in shops at the moment say otherwise 😂

All the kiddos are wearing beige ish cargo trousers and wide legged linen.

Tottenhamsucktoday · 03/06/2023 17:23

Anyone interested in fashion, trends and people watching should watch this. London in the 60s. Some of these outfits and hairstyles look "on trend" today!!

sunglassesonthetable · 03/06/2023 17:24

I get bored tbh.

HappyMe6 · 03/06/2023 17:25

I will continue to wear what I want, when I want, and where I want! Regardless weather fashionable!

HappyMe6 · 03/06/2023 17:26

Whether

sunglassesonthetable · 03/06/2023 17:40

No one 'has' to wear anything they don't want to.

However lots of people are interested in fashion. ( And lots are not.)

These threads always go this way. Cries of "i'll wear what I want!"

Lol crack on. Who's stopping you?

If you don't want to talk about fashion trends you know what to do.

Fashion and style are two different things though - often the most stylish people don’t care about fashion at all. This is the style and beauty thread, not fashion and beauty, so it’s reasonable for posters to say that they’ll wear what they want.

Yep style and fashion are two different things.

And you can split hairs if you want on a thread about specific clothing that have been very fashionable.

But unless you're interested in specifically which posters on MN will 'wear what they want ' ( are the rest of us are in some sort of stranglehold against our will ? ) It is pretty tedious.

SirChenjins · 03/06/2023 18:25

Can I? Excellent.

I agree. Certain fashion trends look ridiculous and arent "stylish" at all. There has been a trend/fashion on SM for huge slug eyebrows, doesnt mean it looks good or stylish.

sunglassesonthetable · 03/06/2023 18:38

History is littered with fashion trends that are not particularly stylish.

I saw two young girls out in town wearing bodies (you know the leotard type things) but with the crotch poppers undone and hanging down. Wtf? Is this a new thing?

It's a look that's been around for at least two years. The fact it's reached the high street should tell you everything you need to know......

I’ve never seen this - is this the next treat that my eyes can look forward to?! When we wore them back in the late eighties/early nineties (can’t remember exactly - yonks ago anyway)they were only ever left undone and over our jeans when we were too pissed to do them up after going for a wee.

Maireas · 03/06/2023 19:16

Too true, @SirChenjins - I think it was the 80s. Everyone was wearing "bodies" then you'd go out on the lash and lose the ability/wherewithal to do up the poppers.

Yep. I remember those days only too well.....

woodhill · 03/06/2023 19:33

I remember wearing them in late 80s till 1995

They definitely gave you a wedgie

Too true. Not the most comfortable of items.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 03/06/2023 19:42

I think cropped denim jackets are a classic. I was out today with a group of women and at least 4 of us were wearing cropped denim of different styles and colours. So what really? For some reason, no one was wearing a floral dress, but not because it was uncool to do so, I think.

I agree. I’ve got a lovely one from Zara that I pinched from DD - it’s one of those things that goes with a multitude of outfits. If it offends the more edgy folks out there then they are most welcome to look away. I care not a jot.

sunglassesonthetable · 03/06/2023 19:58

My lovely denim jacket is probably about 25 years old. And still doing a turn.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 03/06/2023 20:06

Mine is 21 years old! From Gap. I just love it and I don't want to replace it with something more up to date. I realise blazers are more trendy, but they are often too formal for me.
