Right so we should stop wearing...

...floral midi/maxi dress with white trainers because it’s ubiquitous, a ‘middle aged women’s summer uniform’ (can’t forget the cropped denim jacket)

Beige, cream, camels any neutrals because it’s dull and bland.

Skinny jeans are out, they are not trendy.

What else should we stop wearing?

Why do they make the labels in itchy scratchy material! I have to cut the labels out of everything!

ChrisPPancake · 03/06/2023 14:32

They come with two different pairs of laces so naturally I wear one of each colour 😂

Ulezz · 03/06/2023 14:34

We should stop wearing the weight of other people’s judgment!

Astrabees · 03/06/2023 14:41

They now have wide leg cropped jeans in Sainsbury’s- a clear indication skinnies will be back in fashion soon.

In the real world a dress and trainers aren't out and won't be for a long time. It's a comfortable, practical and flattering combo.

Comfortable and practical, yes. Flattering? Almost always no.

Justalittlebitduckling · 03/06/2023 14:52

It’s almost like the fashion industry wants us to dispose of perfectly good clothes and replace them with new ones. 🤨

What if we all resist en mass 😂.

Ah, @ZaZathecat - the nude leggings which go up the arse crack. Some of our post 16 students wear these with a nude crop top. In my head I call it "the Lady Godiva look".

I honestly thought that pic was of someone naked below the waist.

Maireas · 03/06/2023 14:55

Oh, @VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia - many times in lessons/on the corridor I have not known where to look......

NancyDrooo · 03/06/2023 15:01

I saw two young girls out in town wearing bodies (you know the leotard type things) but with the crotch poppers undone and hanging down. Wtf? Is this a new thing?

SirChenjins · 03/06/2023 15:08

Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. Apparently it makes ageing skin (the poster refused to be drawn on what constituted ageing…) look crepey and horrible.

SquirrelFan · 03/06/2023 15:08

@ChrisPPancake Thank you, they're even more fun than I envisioned! And of course different laces!

Sierra26 · 03/06/2023 15:10

Honestly don’t care what’s trendy and what’s not

Gettingbysomehow · 03/06/2023 15:11

Dresses and trainers are hideous. I've never seen anyone look good in them especially with feet over size 5. All the models have massive feet and look awful in them.

True this - it settled in my wrinkles and made me look hideous, I only do tiuche aclat now and hang the cost.

How old are you? I’m 54, MIL is 91. Both of wear it - put on their primer, apply it lightly with a sponge and it looks great. Touche eclat is really cakey on my skin and too yellow.

stayathomer · 03/06/2023 15:29

I’m 43 and read in a fiction book a character saying about how bootcut jeans or trousers past your ankle hadn’t been worn since the 90s. I was like ‘wh-what?’ as I stared down at my bootcut jeans

Oh right, so what shoes should people with feet bigger than a size 5 wear then? 🤣

notanicepersonapparently · 03/06/2023 15:33

I’d say the ageism in fashion means that by definition if a middle aged person wears it, it becomes unfashionable. At this moment I’m busy making [redacted] totally un-cool.

PuzzledObserver · 03/06/2023 15:36

One of the gifts of middle age is that you stop caring so much about what other people think. Well, I did, anyway.

Partial compensation for the hot flushes and anxiety.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 03/06/2023 15:37

Apparently Vejas have peaked, which makes me sad, because they're the most comfortable trainers I've ever found - plus they look great. We're supposed to wear coloured trainers now.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 03/06/2023 15:39

@Sierra26, I am wondering why you posted on here then? I don't care about golf or camping holidays, so would never post on a thread about those.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 03/06/2023 15:41

I very much doubt we'd have started wearing any of these looks of our own volition. The reason we spotted them and started wearing them, is fashion.

No question that there's a big downside to fashion, however I don't quite understand how we can claim not to care about it or be influenced by it when fashion is how this look came to our attention in the first place.

Excellent point, well made, @Floisme

Wait until the footbinder comes round to your village.

😂

providing your style is ‘edgy’ (whatever the tick that is) no-one will notice your bleeding, bound feet.
