Like a leather jacket, but not a leather jacket?

I could really do a with a short jacket that works with everything (jeans, dresses etc) and can be dressed up or down.

The obvious thing would be a short leather biker jacket...but I just don't like them (well I like them on other people but they're just not me somehow).

What else would fill the same gap in the wardrobe?

Denim jacket?

haribonoyoudont · 22/05/2023 08:00

Not cheap, but I really like these quilted jackets from Roake:

Denim jacket?

I should have said…I don’t like denim jackets either!

Bomber jacket?
One of those Chanel-esque cardigan-jackets?

LunaNorth · 22/05/2023 08:23

Watching with interest. I always feel stupid in a biker (Suzi Q’s Fat Nan syndrome) and denim jackets with a dress feel a bit dated now.

I don’t like bombers (have short hair so feel a bit too masculine) and those quilted pattern ones just clash with everything. I like blazers, but not with dresses.

Floisme · 22/05/2023 08:28

There are quite a lot of plain bomber jackets around at the moment and in different fabrics, not all quilted or garish. Zara have them. Some of them even have collars but let's not go there Confused

I think a quilted jacket might work but that one is too slubby and others I’ve seen often veer towards something your man might wear.

Zara also had some cropped jackets that looked a similar shape to a traditional denim jacket but in a different fabric. Some were linen / cotton and probably quite lightweight but some looked a bit sturdier. I've only seen them online though so they might be shit in real life.

Wiennetta · 22/05/2023 08:34

What about a non-leather biker style jacket? Or a shirt jacket? A cropped trench? A smart woolly cardigan-jacket?

ZaZathecat · 22/05/2023 08:41

Inquire like this cotton biker fro Bon Marche of all places!

Something like this

Pattern might be a bit twee but I've seen a good few variations around

I have a few from M&S too.

I love a jacket... turning into my Mum!

rookiemere · 22/05/2023 08:45

How about this ? www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/products/all/item/chloe-jacket

N0tfinished · 22/05/2023 08:52

This from M&S comes in black too. I haven't linked as I'm not in the uk

Sadly too large now, but I used to have a black velvet jacket that looked like those ones people do dressage in. Soft and battered but absolutely lovely to fling on over things.

LookItsMeAgain · 22/05/2023 09:00

Is it because most leather jackets (and pleather ones too) have collars?

Find a collarless leather jacket and see what you think then.

Boucle jackets are great and good for casual or dressy.

MadeInChorley · 22/05/2023 09:21

I have a plain, collarless leather jacket. It’s a few seasons old, so not sure where to buy similar, but looks great over a plain tshirt and jeans, harem pants and smart joggers. I wear it over floaty dresses with espadrilles or trainers and even works with a plain body con dress and heels.

What about a soft leather blazer?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/05/2023 09:59

I love a kimono when I need an extra layer in warmer weather. One Hundred Stars do some lovely short ones.

BuffyTheCat · 22/05/2023 10:00

Another vote for the leather blazer. Goes with absolutely everything (in my wardrobe at least). I love the biker jacket look on other people but it doesn’t suit me at all. I also have a linen blazer and a corduroy blazer that go with most things.

tatteddear · 22/05/2023 10:02

Shacket maybe? Loads of then in the shops. Short and long versions.

kirinm · 22/05/2023 10:12

I wish I'd seen this thread before I bought a light jacket late last night!

I love your jacket. Thanks for the idea
