After a somewhat subdued coronation it was lovely to see beautiful dresses and jewellery. A fantastic promo for some designers. I think Valentino was my favourite

There was an older lady with a bright sea green dress and the most amazing silver bouffant hair - no idea who she was but she was sitting at the front so clearly quite important and she looked fab.

This lady, @Spudlet? She is Princess Sarvath, Indian/Pakistani-born wife of Prince Hassan, who is King Abdullah’s uncle, and brother of the late King Hussein. Prince Hassan was actually officially named by King Hussein as the Crown Prince for 20 years or so, he only swerved to officially name his oldest son Abdullah as his heir shortly before he died (the Jordanian monarchy isn’t based on strict male primogeniture, though it seems that Abdullah is aiming for this. The fact that heirs can be chosen causes lots of issues though - particularly when King Hussein had four wives and several sons!).

Anyway, Hassan and Sarvath represent Jordan quite a lot at overseas diplomatic events, including in the UK. She always looks lovely!

Yes, it apparently came as a surprise to Abdullah as he was aiming for a career in the military and only had a few weeks to adjust before he became king. Queen Noor's eldest son was crown prince for the first part of his reign - in fact when I was in Jordan in 2004 there were pictures of him everywhere.

Beatrice's Jordanian wedding look was put together by her stylist, Olivia Buckingham. I suspect that Olivia is the brains behind a lot of Beatrice's recent looks, and may explain why she's undergone such a dramatic style transformation in recent years!

@Serenster @KillingMeDeftly Blimey, imagine the family politics with that system 😯 The potential for awkward silences at lunch much be gigantic! Just think of the UK royals had that system - the whole H&M furore would be a mere drop in the ocean… and what if HMQ had gone for her (alleged) fave child as heir…?!

Well quite @Spudlet, drama galore and the former crown prince has now renounced his princely title and last I heard was under house arrest as he was suspected of plotting to overthrow the Jordanian government!

I didn't realise former empress of Iran Farah Pahlavi was in attendance. She's had quite a sad life what with being sent into exile and then being widowed young and two of her children committing suicide.

Margareta of Romania was also there and I think she is an ex-girlfriend of Gordon Brown???

I remember A lot of them under house arrest in a hotel a few years ago in Saudi Arabia was interesting

The jacket is sweet. I noted this about his mother: formerly Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy, ... She is the youngest of Count Philippe de Lannoy and Alix della Faille de Leverghem's eight children.

That's right, she's one of the few married-in royals who's from the aristocracy. I think she's distantly related to Mathilde too, who's also nobility.

Speaking of Mathilde, here she is with Princess Eleonore attending a music competition.

Shouldn't Stephanie be holding the baby in the christening photo? I fear her MIL is the sort to grab the baby uninvited.
