Oh, Felipe and Leti weren't there either were they? Looks like queen Sofia was the sole Spanish rep.

I like these pics of Sheikha Moza talking to Max. Presumably she's just told Max how old she is and Max isn't letting her go until she's shared her anti-ageing secrets! (Spoiler alert: I suspect it's mainly down to money and a good surgeon...)

Max: "really? Just drinking plenty of water and using spf 50? That's all? 🤔

I think Juan Carlos ( boo) was there with Queen Sophia.

I loved Max's dress in the evening.

I agree Princess of Wales should re-wear a few dresses. She has some lovely ones, that she's only worn once. Max's wedding day dress is a re-wear and the outfit is so lovely it's great to have it to admire again.

The Vulcan-like eyebrows say otherwise don't they?? 😆

Yes Juan-Carlos and Sophia were there. I did wonder if that's why Felipe and Leticia weren't. Things may still be frosty with the MiL ❄️

Moza probably armpit deep in Goop candles and gua sha doings while having deep baths… probably.

If my face was a taut as that, I fear I’d be unable to sit down for fear of a ‘Death Becomes Her’ scenario.

Spudlet · 03/06/2023 15:13

That coat on Sheikha Moza, amazing 😍

On the subject of ahem drinking lots of water and wearing factor 50 at all times 😏 - Rania’s face seems to have come back from the uncanny valley a little these days. She’s looked beautiful throughout all the celebrations.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 03/06/2023 15:20

She has.

Talking of Kate's clothes, here's an interesting little feature in the Daily Mail about tweaks she's had made to catwalk looks, inspired it seems by the changes to the day dress she wore in Jordan:

That reminds me of something Jon Rivers once said about Nancy Reagan, that she'd had so much plastic surgery that when she crossed her legs her mouth snapped open!

ArcaneWireless · 03/06/2023 15:34

Aye. Joan was a one. 🤣

Oh my god! 😂
I do worry what would happen if they had to do a sudden loud sneeze...

Moza's face has been so lifted that she probably sneezes out of her ears these days @Maireas!

ArcaneWireless · 03/06/2023 15:40

I think it would get more hits than sneezy panda my friend….

Oh, on another note, on the way home I saw baby belted Galloways in the parks and thought of you (in the nicest way of course!) 😍

I agree Princess of Wales should re-wear a few dresses. She has some lovely ones, that she's only worn once. Max's wedding day dress is a re-wear and the outfit is so lovely it's great to have it to admire again.

I had assumed that she would rewear one of her evening dresses, and had predicted it would be the green sequinned Jenny Packham that’s very similar to what she actually ended up wearing. But looking back though her wardrobe of evening gowns, actually there are very few that would be suitable for wearing in a Muslim country. Most are sleeveless/low cut/backless etc which rules them out pretty much straight away.

These three would have worked, but you’d have a tough time reinforcing the lace/gauze bodices on the light blue and black dresses to wear the Royal Family orders and stars she needed to anchor (there was another light blue dress that had an even more gauzy overlay, which I discounted). The black probably isn’t a wedding gala colour either, which leaves the bright blue dress, which isn’t really fancy enough without the shawl, I think?

And I was struggling to think of another long-sleeved, floor length dress that she’s worn that would work for the ceremony itself? There’s a long cream Roland Mouret dress she wore 10 years ago or so, but it’s a bit dull, and had a big slit up the font!

Here’s the other blue dress that might have been on the evening short list (but would not work with heavy brooches), and the Roland Mouret that might have done for the ceremony, but for the slit!

So actually, considering the dress code, I think new was reasonable.

I don't think it had to be a long-sleeved gown for the guests. There were a few short-sleeved ones there, though Mary was the only one who went totally sleeveless.

LadyEloise1 · 03/06/2023 17:32

Ah now ladies !
Kate is going to a big "do".
A really big "do".
Lots of glamour.
She's the future Queen of the UK and you want her to wear something they've seen before 😮
It ain't happening

Eaumyword · 03/06/2023 17:41

Love those gowns on Kate. I actually love the Roland Mouret - would have worked with a bit of concealment.

Spudlet · 03/06/2023 17:50

The Roland Mouret is beautiful, but as well as the slit it is white! You’d never hear the last of it if she wore white to a wedding, H&Ms was bad enough and that was yellow and a coat dress to boot, it just photoed white.

I actually quite liked her ceremony gown, it put me in kind of Queen Alexandra, just not quite so armour-plated with ALL the bling. But I thought the cut and the sleeves looked a bit Edwardian. I loved the green dress from Pakistan and I hope we see it again, but I don’t mind a new dress for a big occasion like this.

Not sure about EBGs bare shoulder (although I’m sure she got all the protocol advice and it was fine, it just stood out among all the dresses with sleeves!) but I do like the way she’s reworked an old dress. Would like to see more of that.

Spudlet · 03/06/2023 17:51

And I really liked the asymmetric neck on Rajwa’s ceremony dress too - it had a really elegant forties look which I love.

Yes, you've nailed it re the retro vibe. It looks like something Wallis Simpson might've worn!

Agree that Kate needed a new gown for a blingy wedding but it's funny that she went for one that was exactly the same as one she had already, albeit in a different colour.
