As lovely as Bea looked, I don't think that looking lovely and turning up to some glitzy events and wearing a tiara is a good indication that someone would be an excellent working royal. She spends a lot of time at private members' clubs and seems to enjoy her current life, with the freedom it entails. I can't see her grafting like Princess Anne and turning up to care homes etc on a regular basis. She also promotes brands (most recently was at a Hill House Home UK launch party) which she wouldn't be allowed to do as a working royal.

Anyway, onto the wedding fashion! I adored the back of Rajwa's first dress, but I thought the front was a bit off - I didn't like the asymmetrical neckline, and it looked somewhat bandagey. I think a fuller skirt at the front would have looked nicer. The second dress was a bit of a shocker...hopefully it looked nicer in person! But she always looks so radiant anyway. On the whole I was a bit disappointed with the Jordanian royal family's fashion choices 😂 they're normally so effortlessly stylish.

Bea looked very classically pretty in the second dress and tiara. I loved Kate's first dress, but the second one was boring and I also wish she'd rewear one of the many gowns she's only worn once, instead of getting a brand new one that's identical to another one except in a different colour....I was also hoping for the Lotus Flower tiara. Fingers crossed that in the future, Kate debuts a different tiara from the royal vaults!

I was waiting to see what drama Sheikha Moza would bring to the royal wedding and she hasn't disappointed in custom Valentino. It's also worth noting that she is 63!

I did spot her in a photo, seated at the wedding.
She is beautiful.
She is the second of three wives of the Father Emir of Qatar ( he abdicated ). His other 2 wives were his first cousins.
He has 24 children. Shock
Sheikha Moza had seven of them.
What extraordinary lives.

Maireas · 03/06/2023 08:44

Sheikha Moza looks stunning - that's a really stylish outfit. Also, @KillingMeDeftly - I'm hoping that we can still look good at 63? (coughs)

Very good points about Beatrice, @doglover90 , plus there's a whole heap of other stuff best left to another thread.
Anyway, I do agree with you about the bridal gown, although the back was gorgeous. Didn't like the shaving foam second dress.

Cliff’s overseas wedding round up …
for day frocks our Euro royals went very floral, which was very different to POW and Bea, who leaned more into the sparkly Jordanian vibe.

didn’t love either Kate gown but she always has to strike a balance between colours that suit and not stealing the show at a wedding.

AFAIK, wearing green to a Muslim wedding might be a huge faux pas because the colour is associated with death & funerals (I may be completely wrong here).

Rather like in some countries, giving people chrysanthemums or lilies is frowned upon because they are funeral flowers.

But I do wish she'd branch out, tiara-wise. Either bring back the Cartier scroll, or have a go with the Vladimir or the Girls of GB&I.

Green is regarded as the colour of heaven, associations with the garden of Eden etc. So it's perfectly fine to wear, I've been to lots of Muslims and green is always a popular colour. Green is traditionally worn at south Asian Muslim henna parties. Green is often chosen by Pakistani Muslim brides as their walima/ reception dress colour.

TheHandbag · 03/06/2023 08:51

Lots of Muslim weddings

Maireas · 03/06/2023 08:54

Thanks for the round up, @CliffsofMohair . I never think floral works well for long, sleeved evening dresses, it just seems too much. Although CPM's dress actually works well, I think there's a slightly more abstract element.
I would agree that Kate is always trying to tread a line and is always cautious about upstaging.

Max in a lesser spotted curly hair moment.

Princess Elisabeth of Belgium in a patterned -yet-appropriately blingy number for the evening do.

EBG in my favourite gown of the European delegation.

Sheikha Moza is stunning. A very interesting philanthropic, well educated woman.

CliffsofMohair · 03/06/2023 08:59

Thread fave and always elegant Jetsun of Bhutan and her SIL Princess Eeuphelma

Wow! Sheikha Moza - she looks stunning in that citrus outfit.
I also now covet sword based wall decoration..

Jetsun of Bhutan always wears those traditional clothes so well, the lovely prints and textures are accesorised just right. She and her SIL look so pretty.

Dr Jill and her daughter Ashley in a pearl/mauve day ensemble. QCams could definitely pull this off.

Princess Hisako of Takamado and her oldest daughter, Princess Tsuguko

iknowimcoming · 03/06/2023 09:07

Isn't Sheikha Moza's dress the same as Eugenies evening wedding dress but in lime green? Or at least very similar?

Maireas · 03/06/2023 09:10

I don't think so, @iknowimcoming - Eugenie's was a bit of a strange one and not to my taste. This is an elegant shape and fit.
Jill Biden looks elegant but I really don't like shiny fabrics. Hisako seems to be able to carry off full length prints.

Really reminds me of something I've seen before but maybe it's the super swishy hemline

Maireas · 03/06/2023 09:16

Yes, you're right, @iknowimcoming the hemline is similar. Eugenie's was somehow pulled forward in the bodice and I never think visible cups look elegant.

Jumana Al Saleh (the daughter of Princess Zein bint Al Hussein of Jordan) in the grey almost-a-coat-dress. Sophie Edinburgh wore same quite recently.

Princess Noor Bint Asem of Jordan in the most beautiful floral overlay

Princess Jalila Bit Ali of Jordan in the blue

The Mums! Because no matter how glitzy or regal or sparkly or impressive a state occasion it’s still their children getting married.
