Hope you're feeling better 🤗

I liked Kate's outfits. I think it would be a very difficult wedding to dress for as it's a state occasion, the evening requires a tiara but you need to avoid any suggestion of trying to upstage the bride

DisforDarkChocolate · 02/06/2023 15:06

I wonder if the York tiara has been bought back from someone who bought it when she needed the money but as a favour, there is no way Sarah could have held onto it and not worn it for so long, she goes to plenty of suitable 'dos'.

It seems that Kate's gown tonight is a pink version of one that she wore in 2021. Sorry Kate, even with the tiara I prefer the green.

Hope all goes well for Eugenie.

AFAIK, wearing green to a Muslim wedding might be a huge faux pas because the colour is associated with death & funerals (I may be completely wrong here).

Rather like in some countries, giving people chrysanthemums or lilies is frowned upon because they are funeral flowers.

But I do wish she'd branch out, tiara-wise. Either bring back the Cartier scroll, or have a go with the Vladimir or the Girls of GB&I.

Away from the wedding, Camilla was at Newmarket yesterday. Looks nice enough but I don't think the jacket matches the dress.

I wonder if the jacket was a last minute addition, thinking - I'll be ok with a dress in June!

I watched video of the Newmarket visit (the YouTube algorithm definitely has me pegged). She was very happily feeding treats to horses, seemed to be very much in her element, and her ensemble looked better in the video than in still photos. I often find this to be the case. Even Princess Rajwa's meringue evening reception dress, which I didn't like at all, looked better in video.

Love seeing Bea in her mother's tiara.

According to my admittedly limited research, the aristocracy had (maybe still do) a practice of limiting tiara wearing to married women. I came across a picture of Anne Glenconner with her mother and unmarried sister at a ball. Anne and her mother were wearing tiaras, but the sister wasn't. (Maybe like that rule I learned from Gosford Park and Downton Abbey that only married women could have breakfast in bed.)

But royals didn't follow the tiara practice. As others have said, Anne and Margaret wore tiaras before marriage. More recently the Swedish princesses did and others as well.

I think the exception is for blood princesses. Otherwise the first time you wear a tiara is your wedding day.

Hence Anne and Margaret wore tiaras as young unmarried women.

I'm not sure where Beatrice and Eugenie did, but Zara didn't wear one until she married.

I'm surprised it is still in one piece!

I wonder if Edo got a copy made up, or whether it is the original. If the original has been owned by the royal family all this time you have got to wonder why it hasn't been seen. You'd think one of the York Princesses might have worn it for something, it is a very pretty tiara.

Maireas · 02/06/2023 17:20

No, it was a gift to Sarah on her wedding day. Her property.

I know that, but it was believed to have been sold (and probably broken up) when she was on the brink of bankruptcy.

If Sarah had owned it all along (or if someone had bought it to keep it in the family) it is surprising that it hasn't it been seen before now.

Twazique · 02/06/2023 18:08

Anne has been out and aboit, I think she looks nice. Nicely chosen colour to go well with the brown uniforms.

My point was that it wasn't owned by the royal family - unless you think the late Queen bought it back maybe? Possibility.

I am an auld sook, but when you see the way Camilla interacts with dogs and horses, she fills my black little wizened heart with joy.

Maireas · 02/06/2023 18:57

Did you see that programme with Camilla and Paul O'Grady, @ArcaneWireless ? She came across so well. I was very impressed. I think there's a saying about how folks can he judged by how they treat animals, so you have a point.

ArcaneWireless · 02/06/2023 19:17

I did. You got the feeling that they’d a super time doing that and would have been kindred spirits. ☺️

Maireas · 02/06/2023 19:19

They looked as thick as thieves! Giggling away. It was quite charming. I don't think he'd have wasted time on her if she wasn't a decent soul.

eggandonion · 02/06/2023 19:28

Maybe the late queen took the tiara after the wedding reception and had it put in the jewel vault for safe keeping. It would have been difficult for Fergie to get it out without a good reason.
Imagine if it was on the tiara shelf when Meghan was browsing!

Maireas · 02/06/2023 19:50

Sarah wore it quite a lot when she was married.

eggandonion · 02/06/2023 19:54

It is very pretty. Has the baby arrived or was that a false alarm?

justasking111 · 02/06/2023 20:00

Will the palace announce the birth?

KillingMeDeftly · 03/06/2023 01:15

I was waiting to see what drama Sheikha Moza would bring to the royal wedding and she hasn't disappointed in custom Valentino. It's also worth noting that she is 63!

I feel Bea is being elevated to working Royal status. Or just she’s a bit more A lister because of Edo.
