With her Plume de Ma Tante 😂😂!
Lovely group picture. I'm glad the Kents and the Gloucesters could be there.

Who is the lady between Sophie and Edward? Lovely smile but looks like they're propping her up?

Maireas · 08/05/2023 18:43

Princess Alexandra, Duke of Kent's sister. Very elderly, but a trouper.

I find it quite touching that Sophie and Edward are both providing a wee steadying hand instead of standing together.

Family innit. 🥰

Maireas · 08/05/2023 18:47

I understand that Alexandra has quite a debilitating rheumatoid problem, so she's done well to get togged up and go to the coronation!

Ah, thanks @Maireas
Slightly surprised to see the Gloucesters and Kents on there with all the talk of the slimmed down monarchy.
Andrew must be fuming to be the only one of the siblings left out.

Gooseysgirl · 08/05/2023 18:49

That's Princess Alexandra, sister of Duke of Kent.

Maireas · 08/05/2023 18:50

Slimmed down monarchy, but the Queen's cousins - loyal friends - included. They've been trusty supports to the monarchy all their lives. Justly recognised.

I really rated Sophie's moves last night! Edward - Dad dancer par excellence!

Everyone in the photo is a 'working royal' - the Gloucesters, Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra are still carrying out royal duties.

Serenster · 08/05/2023 18:52

I thought Charles looked really tired in his solo Coronation portrait (I’m nt surprised!) but Camilla’s solo picture was lovely.

I am also now wondering if Kate’s dress had a small capelet like Chalotte’s, and she wore her RVO robe over the top (a late decision maybe?). The neckline and stunning diamond festoon necklace were definitely covered up somehow under the robe…

Gooseysgirl · 08/05/2023 18:53

There is surely a bigger family photo with the rest of them included (except H who was already on a plane at that stage) but I doubt we'll see it!

Hbh17 · 08/05/2023 18:53

The Gloucesters and Kent's are all loyal troupers, so only right that they should be recognised. DoK and Pss A barely do any engagements these days, for health reasons, and Gloucesters will follow in due course, so the 'slimming down" will occur naturally.
Everyone looks great, but it would be lovely to see a photo of the King with William and George.

ArcaneWireless · 08/05/2023 18:54

I wondered about that papergirl

I’m all for a slimmed down monarchy but I do think it important to acknowledge the guidance and support they will no doubt have given Charles over the years- possibly the late Queen too as well as the younger Royals.

I love that they have been given a place in the shine on his special day.

Only surmising of course. I know nowt.

Gooseysgirl · 08/05/2023 18:55

Would love to see a close up photo of Kate in the festoon necklace. I'm guessing we'll see a family photo of the Wales at some point.

ArcaneWireless · 08/05/2023 18:56

Everyone said it better than me - as usual!!! 🤣

notsuchafrugalkitty · 08/05/2023 18:59

That's the photo I was after! It did seem daft to not show off the dresses under the robes

Greengreented · 08/05/2023 19:00

A friend was at Gloucester Cathedral this morning and saw Princess Anne. It’s lovely to see the royals out and about with the public today after such a busy weekend.

LadyEloise1 · 08/05/2023 19:03

Sad that Harry isn't in that family photograph ( I know there are a myriad number of reasons why ).
His absence is there for posterity ( as is Andrew's absence ).

KillingMeDeftly · 08/05/2023 19:04

Princess Alexandra opened my local library back in the 60s. There is a photo of her, aged about 30, and her signature in the guest book on display. I spotted it the other day and thought she looked very much like her daughter Gabriella. And then I remembered Gabriella is not her daughter, but her niece!

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 08/05/2023 19:07

Evening, thanks for the new thread @Maireas 💎

Didn't the cape Charlotte wore have very similar (if not the same) embroidery to Kates dress?

Serenster · 08/05/2023 19:08

I am genuinely now thinking the wearing of the Garter/RVO robes was a late decision to avoid any repeat of the “who gets to wear uniform” controversy at the Queen’s funeral. Clearly Sophie’s dress was designed so all the details around the bodice would be visible. Kate had a v-neckline and she was lent a big gun necklace from QEII’s personal collection. This makes no sense if they knew when they commissioned them that the main features of the dresses would be entirely covered.

But everyone in the higher ranks of the family bar Tim and Harry have a rank in an order that comes with a fancy robe. We are used to seeing Tim in uniform as he was for decades a serving officer. Andrew was barely shown on tv. Harry wore the RVO insignia that he is entitled to wear around his neck. Controversy avoided and no-one can realistically complain that they were treated unfairly (Harry would certainly have been promoted to a higher rank of the RVO by now had he stayed, but he’s still got a rank in the order, just not the top one).

Maireas · 08/05/2023 19:21

You're right, as ever, Serenster. You're right, too @ArcaneWireless - the Kents and the Gloucesters stepped in when the late Queen ascended as there was only her, Philip and Margaret. I know that she remained firm friends with all of them, particularly the D of K, who spent time with her at Balmoral last summer as a companion.

Camilla has her left shoulder hoicked right up in that picture - the muscles in her neck must be killing her on that side. They both need a good sports massage!
