DD's lips

Can anyone recommend something that will heal my DD's lips? It doesn't help that she licks them too often, but we've tried all sorts of balms & creams and nothing seems to work. The mark above her lip just came up earlier when she was drinking out of a metal cooler bottle I don't know if it's the way she was drinking out of it that caused a sort of suction (that what she says caused it but it hasn't abated yet) or she's had a reaction to the metal. Her lips are constantly dry and cracked like this. She's 12.

I would get her some Vaseline and have her keep applying it regularly throughout the day. I'd also make sure she isn't dehydrated.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/05/2023 18:23

We've tried Vaseline it doesn't clear it. I have said to her about upping her water intake - hence the suction mark above her lip!

Looks like lip lick dermatitis. Very frequent vaseline does usually work.

crackfoxy · 01/05/2023 18:25

bepanthen nappy rash cream, thick layer on over night

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 01/05/2023 18:26

Thanks I will get her to try Vaseline again, and if that doesn't work I'll get bepanthen as that's one we've not tried.

Have you tried Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, my lips get very dry, often before I get cold sores and this is very good at healing. Expensive but you only need a tiny amount

CiaoBellisima · 01/05/2023 18:30

Lanisoh nipple cream.

alexisccd · 01/05/2023 18:30

2nd vote for lansinoh

bellac11 · 01/05/2023 18:31

Is she deficient in any b vitamins?

alexisccd · 01/05/2023 18:31

Blistex also good

Bananaman123 · 01/05/2023 18:31

Carmex tends to stay on well, the original one. I would recommend the laneige sleep lip mask though as it’s amazing, use night and day

Inkpotlover · 01/05/2023 18:31

Carmex is the only balm that works when my lips get that dry.

cryinglaughing · 01/05/2023 18:32

Blisteze or Blistex, same thing but it changed name and I can't remember the current name.

Newusernames · 01/05/2023 18:32

Try SLS free toothpaste as SLS can often cause dry lips

cryinglaughing · 01/05/2023 18:33

Oh and then Neutrogena lip balm.
I work outdoors and get wind chapped. This is the only one over the years that does the trick.

FlickyCrumble · 01/05/2023 18:33

I’ve been using my night cream on outside edges which is helping me so much more than lip balms. Doesn’t taste nice though.

I recommend this too. It really helps when I get dry chapped lips.

madamegazelle1 · 01/05/2023 18:35

OKeefes lip salve in an orange wind up tube has been great for my daughters lips

Newgolddream70 · 01/05/2023 18:36

Carmex also the only one that works for me. My son used to get this and it would clear it completely in a couple of days.

mintbiscuit · 01/05/2023 18:42

Aquaphor or lansinoh

Vaseline alone is NOT moisturising. It’s an occlusive only so moisturiser should be worn underneath

Marblessolveeverything · 01/05/2023 18:49

Both my sons are allergic to the metal in water bottles. She may be sensitive to the material of the bottle.

We use La Roche Possay cicaplast to clear up any reaction.

thistimelastweek · 01/05/2023 18:50

2nd vote for Bepanthen nappy cream.

I have has what I think is cheilitis and this was the only thing that helped.

Lesina · 01/05/2023 18:51

I used to get this. We called it wildfire. Very painful. The only thing that worked was Blistex.

procrastinator8 · 01/05/2023 18:53

Lanisoh nipple cream
or la roche posay do a lip balm
no to carmex - avoid it and anything with fragrance
