DD's lips

Can anyone recommend something that will heal my DD's lips? It doesn't help that she licks them too often, but we've tried all sorts of balms & creams and nothing seems to work. The mark above her lip just came up earlier when she was drinking out of a metal cooler bottle I don't know if it's the way she was drinking out of it that caused a sort of suction (that what she says caused it but it hasn't abated yet) or she's had a reaction to the metal. Her lips are constantly dry and cracked like this. She's 12.

She needs a different water bottle - one with a pull up spout that goes in her mouth. Ive seen this on a few children in school - they almost always have the Chilly type metal water bottles that can irritate their mouths.

OR - she isnt secretly vaping is she?

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 02/05/2023 12:09

Yep, I've taken that bottle away (it was new, she usually has a plastic contigo one so she's back to using that)

She is 100% not vaping!

It's the dry/cracked lips that I'm most concerned about, which is an ongoing thing. The mark from the bottle has almost gone now so hopefully it's just the dry lips we have to sort out.

Blistex, if you can get the stuff in the white tube, it's magic. Also, make her drink a bit more.

Another vote for lanolin. I use lanolips but it must the the original one (just pure 100% lanolin) Once they start messing with it and adding colours and flavours it loses its magical powers. It’s a life saver.
friend had very dry lips following cancer treatment and this was the only thing that helped.

It’s possible that it’s related to a food allergy. I frequently get cold sores if I eat too much of certain foods, the main ones being dairy, eggs, tomato and fermented foods. I would suggest that you look at your daughter’s diet and see if there’s anything which she eats regularly which may be causing a form of dermatitis or eczema.

I had this when I was a kid - definitely from lip-licking.

Another one to add to your list which was the only thing that worked for me: zinc and caster oil cream. Splurge it on overnight. It's revolting to lick. Job done.
