Which top?

Friend's 50th birthday. DH doesn't like one because it's too grannyish and MIL says that one is better (but then, she is a granny!)
Which is better? I prefer one over the other, but my fashion sense is questionable

Black jeans and probably a dark blue (or black?) cardigan with it

My daughters love Suzanne.

this one is beautiful: https://www.sezane.com/en/product/chlo-shirt/ecru#size-4

Best of the bunch for sure but also the most expensive.

dapsnotplimsolls · 22/04/2023 15:50

£70+ for a top?!

MultipleVeganPies · 22/04/2023 15:50

The second one is slightly less worse

neither are party outfits

people tend to glam up a bit for a 50th, so expect others to come a bit more dressed up

do you have any dresses or jumpsuits, or better tops?

OldGrannyish · 22/04/2023 15:55

no, no and no Blush I have a black dress but it's a bit tight on the belly now.

OP, I was at at 50th last Saturday- I'm 51. I wore a leopard dress (but green/ pink leopard), neutral, heeled, chunky ankle boots, and a neutral, leather clutch with a leather jacket over my shoulders. My BF - also 51- wore a sequined skirt, tshirt and white trainers with a blazer.

You're 42! My wee mammy wouldn't have worn the first, but would've worn the 2nd, and she was 72! You need to live a little.

Why are all the going out blouses these days puff sleeved, ruffled, gathered or pussy tied at the neck?

Principal Boy clothes.

Fashion innit?

You could ask they same about anything that's fashionable at any time.

Puffalicious · 22/04/2023 16:03

You'll get nice tops/ dresses/ jumpsuits even in Sainsburys/ Tesco if you're short for time shopping. And you can try on.

TheOGCCL · 22/04/2023 16:04

I prefer top 2 to 1. It’s less ‘jazzy’ and I’d probably tuck it in and roll the sleeves up, or wear it open with a cami underneath. I do however agree with pps that these tops seem like they were designed for someone older than 42. I could see my 77 mother in both of them looking nice.

TheOGCCL · 22/04/2023 16:04

Sorry top 1 the shirt.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/04/2023 16:05

The one of the left is work wear. I actually like the one on the right (but then I’m nearly 60 so my opinion may be invalid).

MiniOreo90 · 22/04/2023 16:07

Oh god neither, but if you had a gun to my head, two

What about something like this? Silk, so a bit special, minimalist but elegant? The pair with a nice pair of trousers, rather than the black jeans (although black jeans would work if it had to).

no, no and no Blush I have a black dress but it's a bit tight on the belly now.

I would wear a nice body suit, jeans and a blazer or a dress

OldGrannyish · 22/04/2023 16:13

No you’re 42 not 84. You should be aiming for something a bit more funky. You have a fantastic figure. What about something like this - it’s cotton and comes in 3 colours.

Ruthietuthie · 22/04/2023 16:18

None of those, no. Bright colors like these look really cheap with black beans. The patterns are also really dated. At a push, the bottom center one with the swirl pattern... But you can do better! You're too young for these.

Any of these?

No.

bigTillyMint · 22/04/2023 16:27

@OldGrannyish, you are 42 not 82!
And an 8/10 - you could look fantastic in one of the tops suggested by others.

Step away from the aged pensioner wear!

HappyTrance · 22/04/2023 16:28

No sorry, none of them. They’re all really bad.

Paperexcelandpens · 22/04/2023 16:29

Sorry op but I don't think you've been listening to anything anyone has said. All those latest tops you posted are the same style as the first two.
My 79 year old nan wouldn't be seen dead in those, you're 42!

ColdAsAWitchsTit · 22/04/2023 16:32

If they were the only tops available the third one is the least bad OP but still way too old for a 42 year old.

OldGrannyish · 22/04/2023 16:33

All those latest tops you posted are the same style as the first two. are they? I was trying to look for different things like pp's have said. So not a plain colour then? That's bad with black jeans?

People have posted loads of ideas on this thread do you like any of those?
