Well, we're in the run up to C day, now. Thanks to @chesterelly for the thread title suggestion 😊

Thanks for the new thread. The coronation invitation is just beautiful.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/04/2023 10:06

Thanks for new thread. Marking place to mostly lurk again.

SqueakyDinosaur · 05/04/2023 10:12

@Maireas just putting it here as possibly it got missed on the old thread - an extremely polite and not at all grabby request for the Cullinan III & IV brooch, if nobody else has bagged it?

Maireas · 05/04/2023 10:30

All yours, @SqueakyDinosaur ✔️

Thank you for the new thread, Maireas, and hello everyone from a rather wet and windswept Anglesey.
I like the design of the coronation invitation: I'm hoping the newspapers will print an explanation of all the symbols and meanings of the flowers etc.
Sarah Fergusson is going to be on Loose women today on ITV. I think she's probably doing the rounds to promote her latest novel.

@Maireas 👋 👋 Thanks for the new thread, fab title as always!

(I used to like the waving back in the MN olden days)

Yes, Charles will present Maundy Money, though he's not yet crowded, he and Camilla will be in York tomorrow for that. Charles has performed the ceremony previously when the old Queen was too ill to attend. But this will be an historic moment for him, all part of establishing himself as monarch.

WhatFreshHeckle · 05/04/2023 10:43

I like the invitation too and like the green man. Ties in with KC's environmentalism I think? I've actually seen him irl before, walking around the Saville Gardens. He nodded at DH and me (we were the only other people there) - I gawped, stupidly.

I love Anglesey @latedecember1963! So lovely there

SqueakyDinosaur · 05/04/2023 10:45

I read somewhere that the Coronation dress code is day dresses and uniforms, rather than Court dress. I can understand why, but if it's true, then I'm still a bit gutted at the downgrade of bling potential.

hopeishere · 05/04/2023 10:46

I think gowns would have led to so many negative comments about being out of touch they had to go with day dresses.

SqueakyDinosaur · 05/04/2023 10:54

I hope Pss Anne rocks up in full uniform. She looks awesome in it.

Maireas · 05/04/2023 11:03

That woman totally rocks a uniform.

I think they're going into a new crown

Maireas · 05/04/2023 11:08

Yes, replacing the Koh-i-Noor.
Although the press release did say, "on loan from @SqueakyDinosaur ".

eggandonion · 05/04/2023 11:11

@AdaColeman imagine that ER is the old queen. My mum and her sister referred to Queen Mary as the old queen. I like both York and Anglesey. They couldn't be more different!
I dont want boring clothes. I want velvet robes and coronets and handmaidens and whatever. Bit of theatre after a long winter.

SqueakyDinosaur · 05/04/2023 11:14

I'm very intrigued by the Koh-I-Noor saga. Not having it in the crown suggests a tacit acknowledgement that it doesn't really belong to the UK, to me at least.

Anita Anand and Wm Dalrymple's book about it is fascinating.

Maireas · 05/04/2023 11:15

Theatre is what we need, @eggandonion .
I'm going to be in York, so may hang out at the Maundy event. I'll do a secret sign for the camera.

I love the invites, they're so intricate and clearly reflect Charles love of the natural world and faith.

I wish I was getting one!

We need to ready this thread for a live commentary.

I think it’s more likely a diplomatic sidestep to avoid controversy. “Look, how handy, we have second Consort crown that we will be using. Koh-i-Noor? What Koh-i-Noor?” Etc. 😀

It looks like they’ll be using the recent Dutch inauguration of Willem-Alexander as the model for the Coronation. Which is a shame, as I was totally hoping for tiaras. But not surprising, I guess, in a cost of living crisis.

(Thanks for the new thread Maireas!)
