Well, we're in the run up to C day, now. Thanks to @chesterelly for the thread title suggestion 😊

Chicory I have dinner service envy. 😻

Me too. It's absolutely gorgeous! I love it.

gluenotsoup · 12/04/2023 10:31

I love the dinner service!
I don’t love the outfits from mustard max and mme macron, but I do like the evening outfits from both, very elegant and striking. I have a slight problem with Brigitte’s style in that I just can’t get past the resemblance to Lady Penelope and I keep looking for the strings. Sorry B. 😬

I keep looking for her neck. She doesn’t seem to have one!

Maireas · 12/04/2023 11:19

Poor Brigitte Macron! She's a woman of 69 in the public eye, with a much younger husband, and from a culture which coined the word "chic". The pressure on her must be immense. I don't always like her style, but think she looks great in this evening dress.

I agree Maireas.

doglover90 · 12/04/2023 11:46

I still find it weird that she was his teacher, 24 years his senior. If the genders were reversed there would be much more of an uproar.

That said, given that this is a fashion thread, I do generally like her style, although some of her dresses look quite 'boxy'. I always envy the French first ladies as wearing incredible brands such as Chanel, Dior, Roland Mouret and Givenchy is part of the job 😍

AdaColeman · 12/04/2023 11:48

I think Brigitte looks très élégant at last night's banquet in her indigo dress with its metallic detailing.
While I loved the flamboyance of Max's dress, it's gorgeous colour and sumptuous fabric, I felt the huge dramatic sleeves were inappropriate for a banquet, how on Earth did she manage to eat without rolling her sleeves up! It's a dress more appropriate for an award ceremony or similar to my mind.

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 12/04/2023 12:39

Oh lordy, I've just realised the dress matched the dinner service. Shock🤦‍♀️ Both dark blue with metallic highlights

themessygarden · 12/04/2023 13:11

I adore Brigitte’s evening gown, it suits her perfectly.

Her hair is such a lovely blond color, it’s thick and youthful, belies her age. Does she wear a wig? Or maybe hairpieces. ?

I 💯agree re the first part of your post.
I also agree re your opinion on the fashion.

I always think too that Selma Hayek Pinault must have the pick of French and International couture brands - her husband is head of the conglomerate that owns many of them.

Not for further discussion here as per our thread rules, but it's been confirmed Meghan is not coming to the coronation. Harry coming on his own.

Gooseysgirl · 12/04/2023 15:42

Love Brigitte's evening frock, as for Max.. well only she could pull that off 😆 but I love it, red is fab on her!

notsuchafrugalkitty · 12/04/2023 17:33

Oh I love Max's red gown! Fabulous. Even the sleeves.

I don't think any women of Mme Macron's age have hair like that naturally. My guess is a wig.

Maireas · 12/04/2023 17:40

Why can't you have great hair at 69?!
All the elderly women in my family (up to age 98!) have or had lovely thick, well styled hair.

You must admit it's fairly unusual though.

Maireas · 12/04/2023 17:53

No. I have friends in their 70s with great hair.

DisforDarkChocolate · 12/04/2023 18:04

I think the issue with Mmn Macron is that it doesn't look natural. I don't mean the colour the whole set of looks artificial.

Serenster · 12/04/2023 18:10

My MIL has wonderful thick hair, styled into a layered bob, and she is in her 80s!

I admire Madame Macron’s commitment to promoting French fashion, but can’t see she often wears something I would like to emulate.

Gosh you're lucky @Maireas
I'm not as fortunate genetically hair wise Smile

Maireas · 12/04/2023 18:58

I think it is genetics, @LadyEloise1 ! They also say that growing up poor was a benefit because they had no money to spend on hair products or treatments, so it didn't get spoilt (I don't know if that's a factor).

My Mum never saw shampoo in a bottle until she was an adult. She and her sisters used the bar hand soap.

I shall say nothing on the wrongs or rights of that decision but from a purely fashion point of view I am disappointed! I like Meghan's style and thought her caped dress with elbow length gloves at HMQ's funeral was extremely elegant.

Gothambutnotahamster · 12/04/2023 19:26

I will also miss the fashion as she always looks amazing! I really do hope they all bring out their best frocks & bling!

eggandonion · 12/04/2023 19:54

I thi k Meghan does glamour and chic brilliantly and casual too. It is a family event and it would have been a good opportunity for cousins to meet up. Hopefully soon.
I want Fergie there too. But I don't think she was invited.
