Well, we're in the run up to C day, now. Thanks to @chesterelly for the thread title suggestion 😊

Though it does occur to me that if they have a party like that then it might be under wraps with no photographs taken!

Booo ☹️

Found you all!
I share concerns about coat dresses all round with the dress code, I was also looking forward to bling. But I can see how they have chosen to dress down somewhat these days.

I splashed out and bought Emma Bridgewqter coronation mugs for the daughters for their Easter presents. Treated myself to a nice plate as well so I'll have to bake something good to put on it!

I read an interview with Emma B and she said that at the last coronation there was tons of memorabilia, all of it made in UK. But now most of it is being shipped in from China - her pottery in Stoke on Trent is the only British producer so she sold me the mugs! I'm not sure this is quite true though as I happened to be looking in the Highgrove/Duchy store recently and they had some mugs which said made in England/UK.

ShamedBySiri · 10/04/2023 11:05

Anyone fancy some decanters to toast The King?
Not sure about the provenance of the little decorations but they made the EB mugs look a bargain.

Thanks for that, @ShamedBySiri - I didn't realise that about the commemorative pottery, Emma Bridgewater it is!

Disclaimer - she might not have been entirely accurate stating that she was the on,y U.K. producer, I can't claim to have researched it extensively but I'm pleased with my purchases!

Also, for those looking to buy - I looked on John Lewis website, then I went to a local fairly high end store that has an extensive EB range. Not a coronation mug to be seen so I asked. The assistant explained he had all the stock hidden away and was planning a big display after Easter. He disappeared downstairs to show me the selection. In the course of the discussion he explained that EB often keep certain designs for their online sales only or to "chosen" outlets so E didn't have the full range. I ordered mine direct from the website a week ago and they were delivered safely packaged in time for Easter.

Maireas · 10/04/2023 11:23

Ok, that's good to know, thank you.

Ha. How gullible am I...

I just googled and I see the Spode and the Royal Academy mugs are both made in Stoke on Trent BlushGrin

Interestingly one from the Historic Royal Palaces doesn't say where it was manufactured. 🤷‍♀️

I bought the nice red one far left which has a festive feel and daughter loves and the King and Countryman one next to it which I had been told was only available on line - didn't see it in the Highgrove shop but it might be available elsewhere.

One Coronation mug ordered. ✔️

Thanks for the heads up @ShamedBySiri. The EB half pint mugs are the perfect size and 'feel'. I am embarrassed to have reached a point where the correct mug is important.

Maireas · 10/04/2023 11:45

I like the Spode one, it's quite retro. I hear what you say about mugs, @ChicoryDip .

The Spode range is quite covetable @Maireas

I like the shape of the tea pot and jug.

Just saw this about the crowns and regalia to be used at the coronation (sorry if someone has already posted, I haven't caught up yet!)

I love the huge emerald in the cross on the top of the sceptre

paradyning · 10/04/2023 12:52

Maireas · 10/04/2023 08:50

@paradyning - QE2 pearl earrings are yours! ✔️ Sorry, I do know that it makes the late Queen sound like a ship.

Fabulous thank you ⛴️

Here's to a massive banquet the night before with tiaras to help us get over coat dresses

lollipoprainbow · 10/04/2023 13:06

Just ordered the M & S mug £5 and candle £10 a reasonable price and very pretty.

The Princess of Wales had on red nail polish today! Did you notice?

I'm pleased I always think she could do with a manicure. I know that QE2 didn't like dark nails but a nice pink or nude would have been fine if she felt she couldn't do bold.

Back to bling - hope this link works - article in The Telegraph re the jewellery Queen Camilla may wear.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2023/02/27/guide-crown-jewels-coronation-royal-regalia-king-charles-queen/

Lovely picture of C on her 60th birthday and I'm sure it was very significant that HM The Queen generously lended out that magnificent diamond necklace that she had worn at her coronation.

I agree QE2 definitely planted a few seeds with lending out the jewels.

chesterelly1 · 10/04/2023 16:19

I'd love to see Queen Camilla in that necklace at some point in the Coronation celebration.
Thanks for the prompt, I'm now looking for a coronation mug. I'm ruling out this Cath Kidston set though, just because of the dates - QEII 1952 2022 KCIII 2023 2023. I mean God forbid that would be propheticShock

@ShamedBySiri I have that coronation mug, I bought it to match the same design from the platinum jubilee. They make a nice pair.

justasking111 · 10/04/2023 18:28

My DILs love Emma Bridgewater and have bought me a few mugs over the years. Mother of the groom, the jubilee, and Harry and Meghan's wedding. They're very durable as well as a nice souvenir

gluenotsoup · 10/04/2023 19:05

@Maireas do I have the coronation necklace in my collection? It rings a bell.
I like the mugs but won’t be buying one probably. If I did it would be the EB, I agree they are just right in your hand. I have the heart patterned one 🙂.
If I see Kate in a coat dress at the coronation I’m switching it off 😂, and if it’s green I’m emigrating.
