Why did they get invented? To make money.

MavisMcMinty · 13/06/2023 18:55

I love the Elemis cleansing balms, not sure if I’ve ever tried any other brands. I like that I can take it all over my eyes without irritation - that’s the case with Elemis anyway. If I have to remove makeup I use either that or Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, to get rid of all traces of mascara, there are one or two other cleansers I can use on the eyes, again all Elemis ones.

FilthyRich · 13/06/2023 19:20

Do you need to use a second cleanser with them @MavisMcMinty ? I have so LEC&P but I'm trying to use up stuff I've already started.

MavisMcMinty · 13/06/2023 19:50

No, it’s fine on its own, although if I have SPF or makeup to remove I usually start with a dark-coloured microfibre cleansing cloth and water - mainly to avoid getting my brilliant white cleansing cloths all mucky!

IndianSummer78 · 13/06/2023 21:18

Thank you @FilthyRich and @MavisMcMinty maybe I'll try one

Experiment627 · 13/06/2023 21:28

@Experiment627 I don’t think any of us will talk you down of it Experiment. And you know it 🤪

@FilthyRich it might be sensible to leave the tinted lipbalms out of the equation. I thought they were clear 😆

CinnamonCoffee · 13/06/2023 21:39

@Experiment627 I'll talk you down. Stay away from mlm. They are all kinds of bad.

Experiment627 · 13/06/2023 21:43

@CinnamonCoffee thank you 🙏🏼 is Aco an MLM too?

OP posts:
CinnamonCoffee · 13/06/2023 22:37

I've never heard of aco but I don't think they are from a quick Google search

IndianSummer78 · 13/06/2023 23:00

@Experiment627 my friend used to sell Arbonne. It's nice. Sorry that's probably not much help is it 😁

MidnightMeltdown · 14/06/2023 00:00

Massively behind on empties but have a few to update on:

39) Aromatherapy Associates oil - I like using these when I get them in beauty boxes but wouldn't pay full price. Olverum bath oil is nicer imo

40) Prai Hand Cream - nice enough

41) Super Facialist Cleansing oil - this was lovely and lasted quite a while so good value

Total for the year 41/130

One more empty

it works pillow spray was a freebie and I love it. Will definitely replace but I want to try the cheap ass Kmart dupe first.

StarryNightAddict · 14/06/2023 22:39

Sorry apparently the brand is this works
was most confused when I went searching for it 🤣🤣

Fraaahnces · 14/06/2023 23:42

@FilthyRich re cleansing balms… obviously they are a semi-solid version of a cleansing oil which are both formulated with emulsifiers. They absolutely do the same thing. Baby oil, etc would probably do the trick too, but it doesn’t emulsify. To ensure that all the mucky oil and dissolved makeup/sunscreen, etc is removed, you’d absolutely need to use a foaming cleanser afterwards. I find cleansing balms much easier to travel with than oils.

MLM is really problematic and unfortunately they just get in and infiltrate everywhere, Tropic is really bad at the moment in some of the facebook groups I'm in.

I'm sure the products are fine, I really like the Body shop products and Neils Yard but there are so many other options out there, you could try hundreds of other brands before you were only left with MLM's to try.

It's so much more than them being pyramid schemes (but they are), its about how these companies completely undervalue the time and effort of the (mostly women) they recruit. It's pitched as a little something to do on the side, a bit of pin money for the sahm etc, or a way for them to get products cheaper themselves, but the actual companies are raking in billions. Billions made of the back of the hundreds of thousands of women who are breaking even, if they are lucky. At least when you buy from Superdrug you know the person on the till is getting paid at least minimum wage.

There is a really interesting podcast about MLM's called 'The Dream' which I really recommend.

Experiment627 · 15/06/2023 10:56

Thanks @LivingDeadGirlUK I definitely see the flaws of MLMs. I shall steer clear 😇 I am currently on Nivea skincare and think I may finally give Superfacialist a try out after. As you say, there are so many brands to try!

I really really want to try the new Lisa Eldridge cleanser but I really can't justify £43 for a cleanser that is on my skin for seconds

Are you doing the Boots Future renew serum on your channel?

FilthyRich · 15/06/2023 11:50

@Fraaahnces , thanks. I'll try them eventually.

I've got a Tropic baby oil and it's basically jojoba oil.

IndianSummer78 · 15/06/2023 12:54

Thanks for the information @Fraaahnces yes I'd totally wash off oil with face wash after. If cleansing balm makes it into just one step I guess there's a point to them then

I got to thinking how women in the previous decades didn't have all this modern stuff and neither did their faces fall off, so it made me wonder if all these new things were of any real benefit

I've always found something to get my face scrupulously clean and avoided spots that way. Usually gritty scrub after work, regular face wash on weekends to get rid of makeup or cream cleanser and toner if I wasn't wearing makeup.

After that, the thing that's made the most difference to me was when I started layering products. I used to use just moisturizer (or regular sunblock when I was at work) but it was never enough. So I started using serum, face oil, gel cream, moisturizer, facial sunblock and now my skin doesn't feel tight and dry, my makeup lasts longer and my eczema is improved.

Then companies brought out a whole new pile of products I don't even understand what they are and my brain imploded, my beauty stash multiplied and now I look at my bathroom and wonder what I'm doing 🤯

Fraaahnces · 15/06/2023 14:33

@FilthyRich If you like oils, use oils. They tend to be cheaper anyway. I have heard that the Boots Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm kinda rocks though. (Used with a flannel
and then washed off.)
Btw, I somehow smudged the F out of my eyeliner today. Looked like Alice Cooper when I finished work. I used baby oil on a QTip to disintegrate it and then cleansing balm and regular cleanser. (Now I just look like Curt Cobain.)

Experiment627 · 16/06/2023 11:05

@Pinktruffle I really want to try her skincare too!

@LivingDeadGirlUK I did think about it... possibly, probably... I am reluctant as not had the best experiences with Boots No7 in the past... but I guess that makes for a good video 🤣🤣🤣

Pinktruffle · 16/06/2023 11:15

To be fair @IndianSummer78 they were generally using the amount of stuff we use on our faces everyday either, spf, foundation, make up in general wasn't used as widely as it is now. Historically many people didn't moisturise and there were periods in history when the ingredients in make up for those that could afford it, did actually make their faces fall off 😂
