I used to love St Patrick's Day as a child. We were all given shamrock at school and sang Hail Glorious St Patrick, which is one of my favourite hymns. Very rousing. Plus we all got a KitKat at break.

Can't help thinking how it would look wonderful with that mermaidy aqua dress that Max wore a couple of days ago, for the full Splash! effect....

Also, re Kate's Commonwealth service outfit, absolutely agree that a contrasting colour for the hat (and maybe handbag?) would have lifted it - my choice would be something like a pistachio green or a deep dusty rose colour, both of which I adore with navy blue.

🤡 😜

ChicoryDip · 13/03/2023 21:12

I liked Kates's outfit at first glance but looking again have gone off it. The stitching on the front that a PP pointed out looks odd and the hat is the wrong shade of blue - a contrast would have been better.

I do however love the elegant 'up do' works perfectly under that hat.

I like Anne's coat and brooch. To me, they both have a Charles Rennie Mackintosh-Art Nouveau vibe.

I thought the same, I have a Charles Rennie-Mackintosh brooch. I don't wear brooches often but that's the one I wear most.

MotherofPearl · 13/03/2023 21:39

Close up of Kate's earrings from NMR. I think she's also wearing a darker lipstick than usual, and I really like it. I think she could go for a strong, dark red.

Posting with picture of Princess Anne to say how much I love her boots. I bet they're ancient, but they are a really great shape and style.

@Maireas Hail Glorious St. Patrick is now going around in my head, what a blast from the past, I can only remember a few lines though and its driving me nuts😀

themessygarden · 13/03/2023 21:46

Must admit, I don't like anything about Kate's outfit, I don't think it is one bit flattering. The hat looks purple in some light.

themessygarden · 13/03/2023 21:47

Loved Anne's Jaunty hat though.

GrouchyKiwi · 13/03/2023 21:49

As an outfit I don't like what Kate's wearing either. I'd never wear anything like that. BUT she looks fabulous.

DisforDarkChocolate · 13/03/2023 21:51

I can't believe how many like Catherine's outfit.

I hate it, it's dull, doesn't suit her (why does she love badly fitting peplums) and decidedly matronly for someone with her figure. Sophie for the win. I even like Anne's more than Catherine's.

Wetdogloveshubert · 13/03/2023 22:00

You inspired me! Some googling led me to this page which has a retrospective of the late Queen's jewels at the state opening of Parliament through the years. There's some lovely images, and a photo of Jamie Lee Curtis in a slimline tiara.

Just to go back to the wedding, I've been mulling over the dress this evening and thought this pic in particular shows off just how well made it is, the seams are almost invisible. Like Meghan's should have been but better fitting. It's such a beautiful dress, it hangs perfectly. I love it.

I hate the neckline and don't really understand how anyone could like this dress.
It is far too fussy as well.

I liked the pictures I saw on here but I am watching the service on YouTube now and I am having a different reaction. The peplum looks as though it has been placed above her waist. It's a really odd look. I do like the cut of the skirt though. I don't think the overall look is matronly at all, but I do think it is a bit odd and not particularly attractive.

I do like her hat and I agree her hair is perfect.

Yes, I find it a bit twee though I guess it's appropriate for the occasion. I don't think I've liked any of her Commonwealth Day ensembles.

ChicoryDip · 13/03/2023 22:41

I'm sure I've missed a few but here is your Commonwealth Day montage.

The two red outfits are my favourites although I am pleased that Kate's now wearing longer length skirts - I was never a fan of the just above the knee-length coat dress.

I'm liking the Erdem a lot less now that I know how much it cost... over £3.5k 😱
