I am 41, are these too young for me?

If they’re ok, what would you wear with them on a hen do?! 🌹

Definitely not. They are lovely. I have patent leather ones and I am 43. I just can't break them in

BevMarsh · 18/02/2023 13:33

I'm 43.
I would not wear them for the simple fact that they're not my style. They're quite old rock imo.
I can imagine both younger and older people wearing them though. Depends on what style you rock in your general attire as to whether they are 'you'.
My friends would think 'what the hell is Bev wearing' but I don't know your style.

Lorrymum · 18/02/2023 13:34

Beautiful boots.
I always find these "am I too old for.." slightly unsettling. Im 65 and would wear them in a heartbeat!

Mabelface · 18/02/2023 13:36

You're never too old! I'm 53 and have 8 pairs of docs.

Rodneyisaplonker · 18/02/2023 13:36

Well considering the model on the website looks to be late fifties on, I’m not getting the question.

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/02/2023 13:36

Oh god, another one of these threads! No, you are not too old for them. Yes, you can wear them where you like, including a hen do (I would wear them with a short dress, and a leather jacket). I have numerous similar pairs and am older than you.

2023pending · 18/02/2023 13:37

Never too old! Enjoy your boots!

Eudaimonia5 · 18/02/2023 13:42

Of course you're not too old, you can never be too old for any item of clothing/shoes. The boots look great, buy them!

It upsets me when people say "oh I like x but I'm too old to wear it now". As if all women over 35-40 should only ever wear a twin set and pearls with comfortable shoes. No! Wear a leather mini skirt with fishnet tights or whatever the fuck you want!

Hubcapdiamondstarhalo · 18/02/2023 14:36

If you love them, buy them and wear them. I've just bought my first pair of Docs and I'm 66. It's taken me years to stop caring if I'm too old to wear whatever. Don't be like me.

Floisme · 18/02/2023 15:36

I prefer Solovair to Dr Martens, don't like the painted ones and I'm considering twin sets for my next style move. Apart from that.... oh I'm not sure if I can be arsed with this anymore, just please don't waste the second half of your life worrying about it.

thedevilinablackdress · 18/02/2023 18:23

High five Flo. I propose a moratorium on Am I Too Old For...threads.
Wear the boots OP!!

Ted27 · 18/02/2023 18:27

I'm 57, I have the tall version
Love them, wear them dressed up and casual

DuesToTheDirt · 18/02/2023 18:31

Of course you're not too old. I'm mid-50s and have some patterned DMs, and I've had so many compliments on them - from friends, family, randomers in the street or in shops or on the bus, young people, old people... And they make me happy every time I wear them.

TruthRevolution · 18/02/2023 18:33

If you like them, buy them.

I'm 43 and have these

watchingpullimgepisode6 · 18/02/2023 18:35

You're certainly not too old for Docs.I've been wearing them since I was 17 and I'm nearly 50
I'd go for ones without the flowers though. I think it looks a bit naff

Countrybumpkinn · 18/02/2023 22:06

I'd wear these with a black tiered smock dress and a nice layered necklace - similar age and my vibe definitely ✌🏼

Calistan · 18/02/2023 22:15

Nah, they are literally made for you.

I have some of these
shoes

In purple 🤔. Feck it I like them (also 41)

Calistan · 18/02/2023 22:16

I frigging love chunky shoes

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/02/2023 22:22

you're a mere foetus of 41

dudsville · 18/02/2023 22:27

I think the middling years is when people are more prone to this fear. Do i seem mature enough. Does this make me seem childish. Not everyone is plagued by this fear. Lots of those who were have since got over it, and sadly some never recover and we lose them to that sinking ship that is the mutton fear. It's ok to need reassurance, but it's always going to be a mixed response, you'll still have to decide if you will be happy wearing the thing.

Mumof3teenagers · 18/02/2023 22:33

I’m 49 and love my docs. Go for it! Wear with a midi dress or jeans and nice top!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/02/2023 22:35

I think shoes are the last thing that you need to worry about being 'age appropriate'. It's not like 'is my skin too crepey at 70 for a boob tube?'. Possibly. But cool boots will look cool at any age. It's all about what you decide to pair them with.

NatashaDancing · 18/02/2023 22:44

I'm 63. I would wear them were it not for the fact my own pair of floral Docs were the most painful footwear I've ever owned.

I'd wear them with a midi dress - possibly even a floral midi dress (heaven forfend)

They're beautiful.

WrongWayRoundAgain · 18/02/2023 22:53

I'm 44 and have the ones on the left and love them. I've had lots of lovely comments on them. I've had them three years now and they still look brand new. They're so comfy too.

I see lots of people our age and above wearing the jazzier docs. I almost got the red roses ones but my local stockist didn't have my size and I couldn't wait so got the others instead
