I like Meghan’s outfit in the promotion - her flats in particular, they are gorgeous! - but am side-eyeing wearing a trench coat to sit down on a sofa indoors to chill with people. Surely you’d just take it off?

Kate is out and about today in an outfit I would steal from her wardrobe in a heartbeat - black and white houndstooth a-line midi skirt, black suede boots, cream polo neck jumper and cream winter coat.

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/02/2023 14:07

I know what you mean on coat inside, @Serenster.

Kate's outfit is gorgeous! Almost perfect for me.

However, if I'm being very picky, one matchy-matchy accessory too much! IMO it would have looked much nicer/fresher with a pair of burgundy gloves (or another colour that ties in well), just for a little pop of something other than black. Very small criticism though as I think it's a great ensemble.

I’d love a cream coat.

It would be folly. Unless I was best chums with a dry cleaner.

TangledUpInDreams · 28/02/2023 14:13

In other broadly related news, the last stamps to feature the late Queen's silhouette have been released.

How lovely that it features another grand lady.

TangledWebOfDeception · 28/02/2023 14:46

Yes!

Maireas · 28/02/2023 16:03

Centenary of the Flying Scotsman - my grandfather used to drive that.
He was an engine driver out of Edinburgh Waverley.

I know! It seems like luxury for that reason.

Ach I was a 70s bairn and an 80s teen.

It is puffballraraitis syndrome.

Ah this is a syndrome I too suffer from.

All puffs, flounces and frills are hideous imo.

I also like a square neck, and a boat neck too.

01189998819991197253Sheldon · 28/02/2023 16:44

Lucky soul! I think as a driver that must feel like the dream job. That train is a beauty.

Imagine driving past all those who observed the train in all her glory, knowing you were the man.

In awe. What a wonderful part of your family history. 🥰

Maireas · 28/02/2023 16:49

It is! Especially as he was from a very poor Irish migrant family and had no opportunity to have much of an education. He loved his job, though and called the engine "braw" ☺️

motherofpearl

A boat and Bardot neck are necklines of my dreams. I am large of bosom though and I’m not sure they would do me any favours. Plus underpinnings would be close to industrial. 🤷🏻‍♀️

So with you on frills. The only flounce I can endorse is one that is accompanied by a sniffy coupon and an exit.

Maireas · 28/02/2023 16:54

Kate and William in Wales today, Kate in £20 skirt, polo neck jumper.

Braw. Now there is a word that says it all. What an achievement. Everyone must have been so proud of him. Always part of an iconic history.

Our family history is similar but Scottish instead. Work came before education due to necessity rather than ability. My granda worked Clydesdales and Shires. A slightly less puffy way of getting about!

01189998819991197253Sheldon · 28/02/2023 17:00

She looks lovely there maireas

And another who looks smashing in a polo neck.

Maireas · 28/02/2023 17:02

Those are wonderful horses, aren't they!
Yes, she looks nice, not too formal or overdone.

Eaumyword · 28/02/2023 17:45

Kate looks fabulous!

chesterelly1 · 28/02/2023 17:50

@Maireas braw is high praise indeed.
I think PoW looks braw today. I'm another who could only wear a cream coat if I had a dry cleaner on speed dial and also a fellow sufferer of puffballaritis - overdosed on puff, flounce and frill in the 80's and been cold turkey ever since. @01189998819991197253Sheldon my grandad was a ploughman with heavy horses, lots of stories of his time on many farms, staying in bothies.
Really finding my tribe on this thread today.

Maireas · 28/02/2023 17:53

Ploughman, that was a proper skill, managing those wonderful horses.
I think Kate's outfit is relaxed enough and yet not too informal.
It's tricky to strike a balance I think.

Cold Turkey frillage 🤣 Love that!

Im a lover of a bothy tae.

And this happy thread. We are all a little link away from eachother and it is a lovely thing.

01189998819991197253Sheldon · 28/02/2023 17:55

She looks just right I think. 😊

Kate and William in Wales today, Kate in £20 skirt, polo neck jumper.

The skirt was only £20 but the coat is bespoke McQueen so I'm sure that more than makes up for any skirt savings! I love the coat but the skirt I'm not so keen on.
