I rarely take my make up off

Just that, I wear makeup most days but hardly ever cleanse it off, I do moisturise before reapplying in the morning.
Im told I’ve great skin with few wrinkles for my mid 50s,
any one else willing to admit to a slovenly life.

Foundation feels grubby but I've no issue with tinted moisturiser 🤷‍♂️

Flameshame · 22/01/2023 22:03

people who wash their faces must also anti-bac their carpets?

no. That’s not what I said. I said there’s a lot of people shocked and horrified by not cleansing which is over the top. Someone claimed they must smell ffs. I was suggesting these are the same type of people who anti bac everything and are terrified of germs. That is not the same as saying everyone that cleanses anti bacs their carpet.

Ladyofthelake53 · 22/01/2023 22:07

Have to say even if ive had a heavy/late night out i always take make up off, its like a habit

Interesting to see the posters that have bought into the whole ‘you need to anti bac your carpet’ thing. Not washing your make up off isn’t ‘gross’ and shouldn’t ‘make you feel sick.’ It’s really nothing. I can imagine all your grey Mrs Hinched anti-bacced houses

Mrs Hinch would pass out if she had a close look at the dust round my place, and it most certainly isn’t done out in shades of hun neutral.

Funnily enough though I regularly wash my face and yeah, I do think people using their own spit instead of soap and water is revolting. Hardly makes me Kim Woodburn.

As for ‘really nothing’, I dunno. Those links early in the thread about the years of calcified mascara almost sending a woman blind are certainly something 🫣

BlackSwan · 22/01/2023 23:06

I cleanse every night without fail.
Sleep is an opportunity for skin to drink up all the potions I rub in before bed. And I couldn’t bear thinking about my lashes crumbling to bits on the pillow if I still had mascara on.
This thread is disturbing. It’s fine for one aberrant OP to stick their neck out but how many of you aren’t washing your faces?!? WTF

MonsoonMadness · 22/01/2023 23:19

I can’t believe some people don’t even wash their faces at night. Never mind cleanse . I would never ever go to bed with make up on or not even wash my face. Disgusting.

Disgusting is finding the donner kebab you took to bed with you 3 nights earlier tucked under your pillow.

The tedious reaches some people feel the need to make on here…..

Please try and take your makeup off if you can, especially eye makeup as it can accumulate and cause problems. One lady had lumps of mascara embedded inside her eyelids- link here:

I use a cleansing balm from Beauty Bay which washes off with water and leaves no residue behind, it only takes a few minutes and you're done- I do my routine before I settle down for the evening or it wouldn't be coming off at all, I'd be nodding off on the settee 🤣🤣

Mercurial123 · 23/01/2023 05:14

It wouldn't be for me, as I look after my skin.

I usually manage to take my makeup off, but on the nights when I'm too exhausted to do my routine, my skin always looks better the next day. Why???

Because you've still got make up on?

Not washing your face at least once a day is a disgusting habit, like never washing hands.

Deathraystare · 23/01/2023 07:35

@Becclescake

yeah that is the one I am talking about in an above post! I cannot understand how she could add a fresh layer every day on top of crush stuff (that is apart from the cleanliness issue).

Yes I see what you mean. I've topped my makeup up on nights out in my teens and 20's, and if I'd crashed at a friend's place I may have topped up my makeup to do the walk of shame home 🤣. I'm old and boring now and have a whole Clinique routine after the cleansing balm- I love feeling clean, I take my makeup off and do my teeth at the same time.

xogossipgirlxo · 23/01/2023 11:19

Wow, you lot must have good skin. Mine would be dehydrated AF if I did this 😐

EnterChasedByAMemory · 23/01/2023 17:31

Letsrunabath · 21/01/2023 16:34

About the pillows, I love crisp white Egyptian cotton sheets and pillows and surprisingly they are not stained!! That even shocks me now it’s been mentioned.

I’ve been looking for lovely white Egyptian cotton linens and bedsets etc. similar to hotels. Are there any that you can recommend @Letsrunabath?

Becclescake · 23/01/2023 18:48

@xogossipgirlxo I slather moisturiser on afterwards, but I do have naturally oily skin which needs a good cleanse, especially if wearing makeup.

Aphrathestorm · 23/01/2023 18:51

When I do sometimes cleanse at night, like if I putting expensive serums on I'm always surprised how clean the pad is.

My make up certainly does run off my face after a few hours.

If I have it on for daytime it needs to be completely redone for nighttime as it's all gone.

Fedupwitheveryone · 23/01/2023 18:59

I remember reading once that Marilyn Manson said he never saw the sense in removing his eye makeup before bed, only to reapply it in the morning. Kate Moss also said that only sleeping in eye makeup gave it the proper smudged look she was after.
Not saying either of them is to be emulated in terms of lifestyle choices but i can (almost) see the sense in the eye makeup bit. Mine has definitely looked ok on the occasional (drunken) nights it has stayed on.
Couldn't leave the skincare stuff on though, so not sure how it could work as a 'system'

Deathraystare · 24/01/2023 17:08

I am as lazy as fuck but still believe in a skin routine at bedtime. Even if I think "Oh fuck it, one night left one will be ok" I will wake up early morning and get my make up all off.

When I was younger, after going out, I always would wake up at 5am, lights on, holding a cotton pad with cleanser in one hand and a mirror in the other!!!

guessagain · 24/01/2023 17:26

I use wet wipes to take my make up off at night, I find if I haven’t done that, which is a rare occurrence, I usually come out in a spot somewhere on my face. I can’t bear going to bed with any make up on - I don’t wear an awful lot though, but mascara, I need to take it off, otherwise I can’t rub my eyes, which is something I tend to do a lot obviously if I’m tired.

Wet wipes don't clean your face well. You just move makeup, oil, dirt etc around your face

Mine too. I really like skincare routine, as PP said, it's the best feeling after whole day. Taking your make up off and shower 😁Mine's oily, but also prone to dehydration. I can see the difference when I wake up with make up on after drunken night (or maybe I should blame alcohol for it 😂).

MidnightMeltdown · 25/01/2023 18:03

Yuk, I don't like wearing makeup if I'm sitting at home relaxing in the evening, let alone in bed! Mine usually comes off once I walk through the door. I rarely wear foundation either. I just feel grubby having it on my skin for long periods of time.

ComfortablyDazed · 25/01/2023 18:17

Honestly, I’m genuinely amazed that grown adults think their make-up has slid off and/or evaporated in its entirety by the time they go to bed. And that there are zero remnants of it on their pillowcase. Grin

If I’m honest, washing my face before bed is less about my skin, and more about my pillowcases. I don’t wash my bed linen every single day (just as I know the types who don’t even wash their face at the end of the day are not), so the thought of sleeping on a pillowcase with an increasing layer of old make-up is grim.

And I wear a tiny amount of natural foundation - I am, never have been, and never will be a trowel on the make-up type.
