I rarely take my make up off

Just that, I wear makeup most days but hardly ever cleanse it off, I do moisturise before reapplying in the morning.
Im told I’ve great skin with few wrinkles for my mid 50s,
any one else willing to admit to a slovenly life.

I think if different methods work for different people then it's fine Smile. I've only recently invested a little, I've used all sorts in the past - Dove soap was my staple for years. Sleeping in makeup isn't something I do or feel comfortable with, but if it works for other people then good for them. I don't like going without makeup, my bare minimum is brows and lashes so I don't look haggard Grin-it only takes me 10min to throw a bit on to look at bit more together. I don't wear as much foundation since lockdown.

I usually take off makeup and cleanse every night. Not this double cleanse business, just once is enough I reckon.

Anyway, last year I had surgery, and I'm not sure now why I put a bit of makeup in that morning but I did. I wasn't very well as a result of the surgery, my face remained unwashed and not moisturised for 6 days.

I feel like crap for a few weeks, but my skin looked amazing!

So I am not sure all the daily PT is always a good thing.

My hairdresser told me she puts her make up on Monday, sleeps in it, takes it off Sunday. To be fair, she always looks great

Diet is the most important thing! I am on and off with skincare routine and honestly barely notice a difference compared to when I’ve eaten crap all week or not drunk enough water - I DEFINITELY notice this on my skin.

I use the Nivea double wear eye make up remover for my whole face. I’ve never seen the pad so dirty! Thick cream cleansers don’t seem to get much off in my experience

@Mercurial123 I agree. I rarely use wipes but I got some recently with a No7 package I bought. I used a wipe after being out for the evening and then in the morning when I cleansed again I could see loads of stuff that a proper cleanser removed

So for scientific purposes of this thread I used a make up wipe to remove make up last night to see how much was on the wipe.

There was one tiny little smear but about 5% of what I'd put on in the morning.

It really had slid off.

I don't look like I have any make up on by the end of the day.

I do touch my face a lot so maybe it's coming off like that?

Cassandra Bankson did a UV light test with cleansing wipes versus cleansing. Her skin looked clean but on the side using the cleansing wipes there was still dirt in the pores. Her face was really not clean.

Setting powder?? What the * is that?

I like the dewy look so use bronzer and highlighter but no pressed powder if that's what you mean.

I always leave a bit of mascara on as my eyelashes are so fair I look very very weird without it ( I know I’m in bed but what if I have to answer the door in the night in an emergency plus I hate looking in the mirror in the morning and scaring myself). Don’t get eye infections or bits of it stuck in my eyelids or whatever. Yes I’ve tried to dye them but it made no difference whatsoever 😂😂.

@Aphrathestorm Sounds like you need to review your makeup routine/setting powder then, I'd be raging if I spent time and money on makeup and it didn't last. Also touching your face a lot is even more reason to wash it! Stop making excuses and wash your damn faces.

Honestly, I’m genuinely amazed that grown adults think their make-up has slid off and/or evaporated in its entirety by the time they go to bed. And that there are zero remnants of it on their pillowcase. Grin

If I’m honest, washing my face before bed is less about my skin, and more about my pillowcases. I don’t wash my bed linen every single day (just as I know the types who don’t even wash their face at the end of the day are not), so the thought of sleeping on a pillowcase with an increasing layer of old make-up is grim.

And I wear a tiny amount of natural foundation - I am, never have been, and never will be a trowel on the make-up type.

Yuk, I don't like wearing makeup if I'm sitting at home relaxing in the evening, let alone in bed! Mine usually comes off once I walk through the door. I rarely wear foundation either. I just feel grubby having it on my skin for long periods of time.

@xogossipgirlxo I slather moisturiser on afterwards, but I do have naturally oily skin which needs a good cleanse, especially if wearing makeup.

Mine too. I really like skincare routine, as PP said, it's the best feeling after whole day. Taking your make up off and shower 😁Mine's oily, but also prone to dehydration. I can see the difference when I wake up with make up on after drunken night (or maybe I should blame alcohol for it 😂).

I use wet wipes to take my make up off at night, I find if I haven’t done that, which is a rare occurrence, I usually come out in a spot somewhere on my face. I can’t bear going to bed with any make up on - I don’t wear an awful lot though, but mascara, I need to take it off, otherwise I can’t rub my eyes, which is something I tend to do a lot obviously if I’m tired.

Wet wipes don't clean your face well. You just move makeup, oil, dirt etc around your face

I am as lazy as fuck but still believe in a skin routine at bedtime. Even if I think "Oh fuck it, one night left one will be ok" I will wake up early morning and get my make up all off.

When I was younger, after going out, I always would wake up at 5am, lights on, holding a cotton pad with cleanser in one hand and a mirror in the other!!!

I remember reading once that Marilyn Manson said he never saw the sense in removing his eye makeup before bed, only to reapply it in the morning. Kate Moss also said that only sleeping in eye makeup gave it the proper smudged look she was after.
Not saying either of them is to be emulated in terms of lifestyle choices but i can (almost) see the sense in the eye makeup bit. Mine has definitely looked ok on the occasional (drunken) nights it has stayed on.
Couldn't leave the skincare stuff on though, so not sure how it could work as a 'system'

When I do sometimes cleanse at night, like if I putting expensive serums on I'm always surprised how clean the pad is.

My make up certainly does run off my face after a few hours.

If I have it on for daytime it needs to be completely redone for nighttime as it's all gone.

About the pillows, I love crisp white Egyptian cotton sheets and pillows and surprisingly they are not stained!! That even shocks me now it’s been mentioned.

I’ve been looking for lovely white Egyptian cotton linens and bedsets etc. similar to hotels. Are there any that you can recommend @Letsrunabath?

Wow, you lot must have good skin. Mine would be dehydrated AF if I did this 😐

@Becclescake

yeah that is the one I am talking about in an above post! I cannot understand how she could add a fresh layer every day on top of crush stuff (that is apart from the cleanliness issue).

Yes I see what you mean. I've topped my makeup up on nights out in my teens and 20's, and if I'd crashed at a friend's place I may have topped up my makeup to do the walk of shame home 🤣. I'm old and boring now and have a whole Clinique routine after the cleansing balm- I love feeling clean, I take my makeup off and do my teeth at the same time.

I usually manage to take my makeup off, but on the nights when I'm too exhausted to do my routine, my skin always looks better the next day. Why???

Because you've still got make up on?

Not washing your face at least once a day is a disgusting habit, like never washing hands.
