Help me find something nice please

Going out to a 'very nice' restaurant in a few weeks. People will be dressed up, I think. Not London.

So - I'm looking possibly for one of the following:

• a dress / short but not clingy / must have sleeves

• or - I've got a black satin midi skirt that I love but haven't really got a top to go with it / would need sleeves, lowish neck or possibly a wrap, relatively fitted, not very long in length and not needing to be tucked in, maybe a bit of ruching or something

or - a brilliant pair of flattering 'going out' jeans (I have no smart jeans) and a top to go with them

I suit black or dark colours like deep red or dark green / not averse to a bit of animal print or a subtle pattern.

I don't 'do' scratchy polyester. I'm short and a curvy 14.

Any ideas, please?

As a result of following this thread I've ordered the black ME+EM dress linked above. It's arriving Monday & I'm really hoping it's as nice as it looks!

Of course I like the 'floral, expensive' one the best - it's gorgeous!

Love the colour of the first Wallis one, but suspect it wouldn't be very good fit/quality irl. The others are lovely but not quite right for me.

I spy cannelé, @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie !! Bloody delicious. I'm also on a forest green kick at the mo - bought a lovely t-shirt from the Next outlet the other day and I have a gorgeous dark green cashmere jumper that I've been enjoying wearing. Whenever I wear green I resolve to do it more often but it's hard to avoid khaki/olive and find the really lovely darker ones.

It was bloody gorgeous!

I am in a similar position to your OP Remus. (And I LOVE your fussy-ness) Fancy dinner afoot in a couple of weeks. Have the satin skirt, but nowt for the top half.

@Elevenutionary Thanks and glad you're enjoying the thread. The Fatface gold embroidered dress that I bought was torn to pieces on another thread, but fuck em! I like it.

I still haven't found anything to wear with my satin skirt other than a black jumper, which is a bit annoying. I'm on the look-out for maybe a dark green wrap blouse, or perhaps a Chinese-esque silky floral print, but can't find anything that fits the pictures in my head.

@Elevenutionary I bought the ME+EM dress. And I'm really sorry to say that its absolutely gorgeous!!
It's a perfect fit, though short but that's the style & I am 5ft 9". I really love it ❤️

Sounds beautiful. I think it would have been too long on me (or I will console myself with that anyway).

Its a pity they don't reduce it further now that its been in the sale so long!
It's pretty short on me & it's been a long time since I wore something that short but I think with v opaque tights & block heel boots it looks good. Especially since the rest of it is v covered.

@TheDead whats the sizing like on the Me and Em dress?

@Montague22 I think the sizing is very good. I dithered between the 12 and the 14 and in the end ordered the 12 and it is a perfect fit. There is a stretchy slip underneath and the outer lace shell is generous I think. I am very glad I got the 12 as I think the 14 might have been too wide.

I have a couple of ME+EM dresses and find them to be a very good fit.
