In the never again category - Profhilo. Really expensive, painful and no noticeable difference at all.

Completely agree.

I'd like to hear more about hydra facial too please. Post meno very dry skin here.

I wouldn't recommend hydrafacial for a very dry skin.

bjjgirl · 01/01/2023 17:18

For wrinkles Botox - amazing

For acne - dermatica subscription - cleared it

For eyebrows - castor oil to grow and then get them dyed and plucked

Ihavehairlikeworzelgummidge · 01/01/2023 17:20

Botox and a small amount of filler.

Lndnmummy · 01/01/2023 17:20

Botox. Eyebrow threading, laser hair removal and BIAB nails.

Tickledpickle · 01/01/2023 17:21

Skin and me - fabulous stuff! I saw a family member in October and had to ask what make up she was wearing as I couldn’t get over her glow. Turns out she wasn’t wearing a scrap of make up and it was all down Uk the skincare. I started it and my skin has never been better, acne has finally gone!

I have a link here for anyone interested, for full disclosure I think I might get a credit off my next box if it’s used:

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. Expensive but changed my skin. I gave it up for a while whilst on an economy drive but I've gone back to it.

Dh got a sample of this when he flew business class and I nicked it. It's really good.

So glad I read this as I've been tempted by Profhilo but will give it a miss now! For me it's Botox all the way. Not tried fillers (yet).

AbsolutePixels · 01/01/2023 18:09

Botox
Footners
Getting my makeup done by a professional

I wonder if any eyebrow experts can recommend something for me?

My eyebrows are naturally thin and arched, and thanks to being middle-aged, grow quite long (I snip them) and I get the odd white one. Sound a right catch, don’t I?

I get them tinted, as they’re fair, but I would like them thicker. I don’t think micro blading will work, as I don’t have gaps, as such.

Is there anything anyone would recommend to stop me looking like Elizabeth I?

Latisse. Used every day for 3 months you'll have growth where you haven't for years - decades in my case.

I also used it for lashes but they grew ridiculously long so I now maintain those with The Ordinary's lash serum.

I started off using generic Bimatoprost drops for glaucoma on an eyeliner brush from a group purchase on Makeupalley. We had it from an Indian pharmacy for £4 plus shipping but I've had to buy Latisse from a local salon for the last lot as the group no longer seems to exist nor can I find Bimatoprost without a prescription.

Vinorosso74 · 01/01/2023 18:22

Powder brows (wrong skin for microblading). I had crappy overplucked 90s eyebrows and they made such a difference. Unfortunately, I couldn't have the top up you're ideally supposed to have due to starting chemo. Wished I had them done before!
They've more or less faded now but I loved them, though hated the reason why I did it. I'm now on blood thinners so probably can't get them done again (not sure I can afford it either).

whatthejuice · 01/01/2023 18:31

IPL hair removal & LVL lash lift.
Both make me feel so much more confident.
Not really a treatment but a couple of drops of tan luxe with my daily moisturiser is great. That and the lvls mean I feel better when I've no time for make up ahead of the school run!

peanutbutt · 01/01/2023 18:44

Ooh I love these threads, but as I run an aesthetic clinic, I worry that people may think I am biased towards some treatments. But these are the things that I think make a difference.

Tretinoin - to help with pigmentation (which dulls the skin)
Religious SPF application - its necessary all year round
Lots of water - the difference in my skin when I don't drink water is noticeable
Microneedling - deep needling. It can make your skin look like baby skin, if done by someone who knows what they are doing
Botox - very minimally so its discreet (no bat eyebrow give aways)
Fillers - not to augment but to hydrate

Things that I am underwhelmed by: Profilo (meh), Elemis, Clarins, Clinique... when you hit 35 (or ealier) I think you need active skin care.

How painful is deep microneedling? Is it expensive and can it help skin laxity?

OP posts:
peanutbutt · 01/01/2023 19:01

It depends how deep the needling is. I use a very expensive needling pen which means topic anaesthetic isn't required. I do offer it prior to treatment, but majority of my clients are fine without it. I'm a nurse by the way, so you need to be trained properly and be aware of risks/ contraindications with deep needling. Fabulous for ice pick scars and box car scars from acne. Not great with active acne and I never needle clients with active acne.

IPL for sunspots. Had a spot the size of a 50p coin on my cheek since childhood. Hated it and thought it would always be there. Had two IPL targeted treatments and it's gone. I had additional spots come up due to age/pregnancy and zapped them too.

Lots of advocates for Botox. I'm 51 and haven't succumbed yet but am a bit nervous

Hattie72 · 01/01/2023 19:09

Botox and fillers. Game changer !!

Havehope21 · 01/01/2023 19:10

@Tickledpickle - sounds amazing, can you explain a bit about how it works and what you receive? Is it possible to buy the products elsewhere (e.g. larger quantities instead of a monthly subscription)?

Happygirl79 · 01/01/2023 19:15

Is IPL done by a nurse or doctor @talkingpaperclip

defi · 01/01/2023 19:16

Worth the money

Botox
Fillers
Lip blush
Microblading

No difference
Nctf under eyes, fillers are more effective for dark circles
