WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp, WEEK FIVE of 2008

WideWebWitch · 03/02/2008 20:56

Welcome to week 5 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

lol at all of you re the whistling I am a feminist too hence the but loved the dot card WWW

Anyway, swiftly moving on... Bundle your hair looks fab. Marina well done on the exercise Bamamama, good luck with MIL.
Batters, how lovely to be told you look younger Cerys, I am going to copy you and write a list to motivate me too.

I have had a very good day so far today:
fresh fruit & natural yogurt for breakfast; and now I am eating pea soup and carrot batons and hummous for lunch. Didn't take a car to my home visits this morning so have walked a lot today BUT the MORON is at home

Am finally feeling into this again. Hurrah.

WideWebWitch · 07/02/2008 21:08

Hello all

thanks for the lovely compliment Marina xxx to you my love!

Batters, oh me too re binge drinking. Although I have managed moderate drinking every nigh this week except Sunday, when I didn't drink at all. Must get back into groove of abstinence in week, I KNOW I'm sharper for it. I lurve Torchwood, enjoyed last nights enormously, swoon at Jack...

Today

2 pieces toast
banana
apple
hummus sandwich
5 biscuits
a couple of Starburst
and about to have Pizza and rocket salad and garlic bread
and red wine but will be in moderate amounts
have glass of white in front of me

and will have earlyish night.
Dreamt DH left me last night and woke in absolute panic. No idea what was behind that dream, weird.

Am allowed to work from home next Monday, hurray!

lol at MIL on broomstick

Prufrock, wooh, at you not choosing in advance! well done on the PITA, sorry PTA

Gotta go, Ashes to Ashes (gosh, this makes me sound like tv addict, I hardly watch anything actually!)

This thread always cheers me up. Reggie Perrin, whistling, wotsits.

pru - flexibar looks interesting and it says it's good for sciatica. Good about your shrinking muffin top.

foo - no suggestions for Easter break but it's a great idea to go. We're hoping to have a few days on the coast before baby is due, even if it's freezing and we just run about with the dog!

14846 steps so far today - will get that to 15k before bed or I'll feel cheated!! Lovely long sunny walk with the dog on the Ashdown Forest this morning. Sciatica manageable.

I've eaten hot cross bun, peanut butter sandwich, apple, raw carrots, 2 plums, cheese & crackers, 1 slice pizza (eurgh, really don't like it atm). So I should have made something else for dinner but not particularly hungry... I'll go browse the larder.

Everything else good - oh, I have eaten a Twirl as well (mmm). Going to watch DD1 in a play/KS1 assembly tomorrow afternoon, she's very excited as she has one of the main parts. Eeek!

Iota · 07/02/2008 21:39

we opened the wine tonight

it's the thin end of the wedge

unknownrebelbang · 07/02/2008 22:31

Another fleeting visit

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • No Exercise spent an extra 1/2 hour in bed instead, lol, and it's been chaotic tonight
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream no
  • Use hand cream yy
  • Go to bed early, midnight last night
  • Eat healthily, ish.
  • Be happy. Yes. Had a meeting about DS1's options tonight. Quite restrictive choice really, but took the opportunity to speak to a couple of his teachers, and followed up from yesterday's meeting with his form tutor, who is a lovely fella.
winnie · 08/02/2008 10:30

Duchess, this thread always cheers me up too

WWW, wotsits and a tv addict?

Yesterday was a really good day for me. Ate 11 portions of fruit and veg and felt very greedy. Also ate seeds when the urge to pick overcame me. Yesterday was a wheat free day as I needed to break my bad wheat habit that makes me feel bloated and is not helping my weight loss. I do find that limiting my wheat intake alone makes me feel better and the weight falls off. I am not allergic to wheat I am simply an addict of bread, pastry, pasta etc...

Have a good day everyone

LoveAndSqualor · 08/02/2008 13:38

It's a very cheering thread, isn't it? Sort of soothing in the same way as eating healthily is ... a good-for-the-soul thread ...

DP back from the US last night, so we went out and ate v delicious gastro pub burger and chips, AND shared a chocolate cheesecake AND I had a glass of wine! So not exactly bootcamp-tastic, but hey ho. On the plus side, I gather that the carpet men have been and all is well, though DP tells me that the new carpet makes the walls look filthy (inevitable, I imagine)!

Today, 2x toast and peanut butter, banana, apple juice, lots of peppermint tea and just having a ham and cheese baguette from pret (mmmmmm). Have mango slices for pudding, lovely. Tonight will probably involve moving all the furniture back downstairs again, so some exercise, I guess.

WWW I did have the wotsits! And mighty fine they were too ...

I've tried the powerplate too and hated it - felt like my teeth were about to chatter out - but i like the look of that vibro-stick-thingummy, Prufrock - how does it work?

Prufrock · 08/02/2008 22:53

No downfalls honestly. It doesn't usually hurt whilst exercising (the only one that really gets me is lifting your arms as high as they'll go behind you and vibrating vertically - kills the triceps). You can use it to work oads of different muscles, but each exercise still works your core. The only thing I would say is that to be effective you have to do it properly - I still quite often start vibrating only to have Janice remind me to pull in my lower abs, and the whole feel of the exercise changes. So I think if you are going to get one just for home use you should probably get a DVD as well (an manage to unwrap it - where is Marina btw ) And the videos on that website are swinging way more than I ever manage. But I've been having personal training for nearly 8 months now, and this is the first thing that's had a fairly immediate noticeable and specific effect.

Prufrock · 08/02/2008 22:59

Yesterday I did everything except yoga - I had no time in am as had to take ds to SALT assesment on advice of pre-school staff, but SALT said he spoke really well for his age and his habit of lenthening the last syllable of sentences was just a habit rather than a problem (and I find it quite cute actually). So a wasted hour.

Today I have been to Ikea. Which was rather nice (kids loved smaland) until I got to the warehouse area to find essential components of my new laundry room storage were out of stock. which is bloody annoying. But I managed to resist the daim cake, and am bending the rules slightly to claim that meatballs, chips and gravy are healthy eating. I did forget to dry bodybrush this am though, and didn't walk the dogs (got next doors kids to do it for a fiver).

unknownrebelbang · 08/02/2008 23:05

Another late posting..

Another fleeting visit

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 30 mins on ex bike
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream no
  • Use hand cream yy
  • Go to bed early, midnight last night
  • Eat healthily, hmm. Went out for lunch and then had half a cream cake in the office. Eaten too much this evening too.
  • Be happy. Yay. It's Friday, it's half-term and DH is off for the weekend.

Forgot to sort my leave out for next week other than mentioning it briefly to the boss, and I still need to sort it out, but thankfully he's not unduly bothered as long as deadlines are met and they have or will be.

unknownrebelbang · 08/02/2008 23:15

ooh, just remembered - a colleague was visibly shocked when I said I was over 40!

Note to self. Stop telling everyone you're over 40, lol.

marina · 08/02/2008 23:38

Sweet mother of Abraham, my DVD to the power of
Well, I'm sure I'll unwrap it soon, and I have managed to do at least four days of 15,000 plus steps this week - not today though
That does look a great gadget Prufrock
Lovely compliment from your colleague there unknownrebel...dd's "I love your squashy tummy" is not really quite in the same league
Hope your dd's play went ok Duchess and that the sciatica holds off - and that bootcampers everywhere enjoyed the blissful sunshine we had in London today
We are on half-term now so we got off to a flying start with pizza all round and some Primitivo for dh and me. Luckily Ocado delivery appears to consist mostly of salad, budgie food and cottage cheese so that's my weekend indulgence done and dusted

marina · 08/02/2008 23:39

And actually batters could you post a link/some info on those special trainers you said were so good - that is something I do feel I'd use right now

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/02/2008 23:42

Hello everyone. Quite a lovely day, weather beautiful, another nice walk with the dog, DD1s school play went really well and she was great although she had 'tummy ache' this morning and I thought we'd have to skip it. I think it was just nerves!

I've done nearly 12000 steps, 3000 of which were aerobic. Lots of pelvic floor exercises today too! Tick to everything else except early nights (v. bad) and Flexitol, but I might yet do that at bedtime.

I've eaten wholegrain cereal, orange, ham & avocado salad, another Twirl, raw carrot, salmon, boiled potatoes and yet more salad followed by small bowl of ice cream and a chocolate biscuit. Lots of orange juice & water.

Finally received my sweatyBetty vouchers so will start buying new running gear for the distant future!

Hope you all have good weekends.

lol at duchess's birth announcement, yes I can imagine that too. Well done dofn, very healthy and impressive at your fitness.

Madame Tussauds sounds good fun batters, hmm at those trainers, I ought to look, I read an article that said "How often should you replace your..." and under trainers it said every six month or something, mine were my sisters and she lent them to me when I had heels on and we were picnicing in a park in May 2004 (I know date as it was the anniversary of my dad's death, hence the picnic) so I really ought to buy some more. here#s a link to that shoes site

L&S gaastropub sounds lovely

Prufrock, at your laundry room but how good that ds's speech is fine.

Marina, omg, is that dvd STILL in its wrapper? hahahaha! So have you got some time off then? How lovely.

unknown, what a fantastic compliment! Hope you get your leave.

Winnie, I am VERY interested to read about wheat, I have considered tihs several times, I am such a carb addict, I really ought to give giving it up for a bit a go.

I have a stinkng cold and rather pathetically, burst into tears at work yesterday when someone was unexpectedly REALLY rude to me on the phone. It wasn't one of my fkwits or a customer, it was some internal bitch being fking rude. My lovely boss has said she will speak to her and tell her it's unacceptable. I really felt like saying "I'm a contractor and I'm not taking this shit any more so fk you" but it was horrible. I have really tried to analyse why and I think maybe it was a fight or flight response, I had that adrenaline weakness in my legs, do you know what I mean? Also I got up at 5.30 yesterady to start early so I could leave early (4.30 to get home for 6.30) AND ds was ill so we drafted in lovely ex mil who was delivered to our door at 8.15am so dh and I could both work while she stayed and looked after him. I love her. She's still asleep upstairs. Anyway, I then dreamt last night that my boss and I were being hunted in tunnels by people in car like vehicles in some dark twisted theme park place, they were like Hirojans (for anyone who knows Star Trek Voyagers, they are a race who hunt people) and it was scary. So despite thinking work isn't getting to me, which I really do think most of the time, maybe it is. Never mind, 4 days next week thne a week off. WISH I had something else thne I could give 2 weeks notice on Monday. Had pos int last week which then didn't transpire so hasd hopes of working nearer Euston but it didn't come off. Never mind, at least I am at home on Monday.

So, yesterday
toast x 2
egg sandwich 350 cal
banana
2 pieces of colleagues birthday cake
a few crisps
some chocolate eggs
no wonder I was tearful, that's not enough is it from 5.30am - about 4.30pm when I had the cake it was just toast and sandwich and banana.
tandoori chicken
naan
lots of wine
cheese on toast
and slept badly because I'm breathing through my mouth due to blocked up nose, roll on the end of this cold.

But hey it's the weekend and I have Monday at home so I bet I feel a lot better by then.

Duchess thank for mentioning pelvic floors - I am RUBBISH at remembering but sitting at desk doing them now.

WWW, horrible when people are suddenly rude. I hate crying at work, too (have done it on a number of occasions!). Glad your boss was so nice. Definitely not enough food after a 4.30 start, I reckon.

Prufrock I am seriously tempted by the wobblestick. Getting a bit fed up of having flabby arms (legs ok from cycling but arms definitely taking the pregnancy toll), and this looks like just the thing for toning without lifting massive weights ...

Having said that, much of today will be spent hauling stuff back into place following the Laying of the Carpet yesterday, so that should give my arms some exercise. The carpet is beautiful and v soft and I am in love with it.

Had leaving cake yesterday afternoon for lovely colleague who's returning to his native Canada, but v little in the evening (leftover lentils, tuna and onion from the other night; some dry cereal). Had cereal and water so far this morning and about to cycle into town for hair cut and colour and coffee with dear friend, so

What a beautiful day. Have great saturdays, one and all!

PollyDolly · 09/02/2008 12:47

Sorry not to have posted this week. I have kept up with most things but both girls have / have had bad colds and so sleep and good humour in short supply. Now DH has taken DD1 (better) out, so DD2 (still ill) and I can do some jobs round the house. DD2 won't settle though so I'll have to go and feed her again in a minute.

Am loving my moron - one of the best £20 i've spent recently. And looking at my bank balance, I've spent LOADS. I love the aerobic step, plus the comedy bit if you leave it off for a day and record 0 steps 1 day ago. The flexible arm bar looks good as I have dinner lady arms at the moment. I am still debating the MBTs to help my bum but can't afford at the moment.

Have done well on the booze front til last night but now feel horrendous! It's amazing how quickly the body's resistance goes down isn't it? My poor sherry soaked liver must have been really struggling over Christmas.

Marina - you are not alone. I still have 2 swimming costumes with the tags on as I can't quite face it.

WWW - poor you. I can't bear rudeness. Hop you enjoy your long weekend.

Must dash - will try to reply properly later

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 09/02/2008 14:44

batters - rofl at birth, champagne & mucking out. I hope I don't do that!

L&S - we should add pelvic floor to our list of bootcamp requirements. We bought a huge trampoline in the autumn so I didn't get to use it as already pregnant - I'll be v. upset if I can't use it in the future because I wee with every bounce.

PD - Having had a break from wearing my Moron, I'm really appreciating it at the moment too.

www - sorry that work is so miserable atm. Enjoy your long weekend in the lovely weather (stop reading that bloody thread about class or Waitrose or whatever, tis long and complete nonsense). A week off for half-term will really help you recharge your batteries. for when all the fuckwits get fired.

So far have had 2 bowls of cereal, toasted bagel with cream cheese, bacon sandwich, raw carrot. Probably have chilli, pitta bread & salad tonight.

And now I'm going to muck out the ponies and the chickens...!

WideWebWitch · 09/02/2008 14:52

You're all lovely, thank you for your kind words. I am sitting in bed iwth the laptop, a bin and a loo roll as I am streaming with cold. Dd is asleep next to me and ds and dh are doing xbox things downstairs. Lovely dh has shopped and dropped ex mil off and brought back John Barrowman's autobiography for me, bless him, so I am being looked after. And he went out to buy me a bacon roll (before doing a supermarket shop) and a smoothie with lots of vit c.

Dofn, it was a load of old toss all that class stuff, can't be arsed to post on any of it now I've read the background!

Happy weekend everyone!
