WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp, WEEK FIVE of 2008

Welcome to week 5 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

I have got back into Torchwood and am wondering if the Wednesday 7pm one is only ten minutes long batters
I do think it's improved dramatically from series one, but we haven't let ds loose on it - I think it is just too complex and emotionally disturbing for someone his age.
Gosh but Burn Gorman is about 1000% better in this series! John has done something a bit worrying to his hair though.
Thanks for the Virgin Vie cream tip Kidsrus, am always on the lookout for something as good as Clarins but cheaper, and non-sting. I once tried some very good looking Nivea stuff and it was agony
Well done on the compliments batters btw, richly deserved

LOL, I can imagine it makes little sense in the filleted version

WideWebWitch · 21/02/2008 11:11

Hello all

Am away at lovely friend's house so drank Champagne and ate Thai last night but had lentil soup at my mum's for lunch.

Bed at 11pm though and didn't get up til 7am so it's ok. And very happy week off, children are frolicking in friend's enormous garden, have spent morning sitting around chatting.

Happy week everyone.

ladies, ladies - you need aveeno handcream or good old aqueous cream for hands, no fancy stuff needed! aqueous cream is the best body lotion i've found too. am doing pretty rubbish at bootcamping this week - wine left over from sunday has been consumed in fairly large quantities... actually might as well do scores for this week so far as i'm here

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter - none yesterday, but otherwise yes
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it - v bad see above
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer - yes have done exercise/power walking every day except one
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day - fluid intake fine
  • Apply body cream as often as possible - have slipped on this.
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff - yes feet and hands still getting good care!
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos - aargh! am so bad at this!
  • Eat healthily - pretty good this week actually, hampered by wine drinking as above.
  • Be happy - happy enough so far i suppose
marina · 21/02/2008 11:21

isn't something pretty significant in the offing or did I miss it?
Thanks for Aveeno recommendation

winnie · 21/02/2008 11:22

Marina, sorry things are rubbish. Thinking of you {{{}}} And thanks for the link. I will return there when I get 5 mins later. I definitely need to learn to curb the comfort eating habit.

Batters, that is my problem too: I am spending as much time off the wagon as on at the moment and the scales are acknowledging it. As for dry hands I have found my entire body is really dry at the moment and I have NEVER had that problem in the past.

unknown, I hope you are ok (?)you don't seem yourself.

Bamamama, I agree that you are a saint. Two weeks?

Chutney, well done on the steps.

Duchess, you are still an inspiration

Haven't ticked many boxes this week BUT am hanging on in here to start afresh next week Again

marina · 21/02/2008 11:37

Cake, candles, presents galore...

bossykate · 21/02/2008 14:04

oh you are talking about my forthcoming ahemtieth birthday! LOL! i think the celebrations will be somewhat toned down since i discovered that i can't afford to do more than go out for dinner! and lucky to be able to do that

marina · 21/02/2008 14:17

21 again

marina · 21/02/2008 14:18

Has anyone seen FooFoo posting lately by the way? If you are lurking FooFoo, hope all is well

ChutneyMary · 21/02/2008 19:36

Evening all

OK day today. DD1 cried all round Sainsbury's this am ("Mummy I NEED a Thomas yoghurt", "Mummy, I need some tomato sauce" etc repeat ad infinitum) so I was rather frazzled by lunch. We went out for a walk to Herne Hilll this afternoon, and I was, er, touched up on the way home. A mere child (i'm guessing no more than 14, certainly not shaving) cycled past on the pavement and grabbed my arse as he went! I was horrified, as this was 4pm, broad daylight, I am clearly in my 30s, pushing a pram and wearing a rainhat. He then sat on his bike at the junction so I flet a bit nervous about passing him. Had to cross the road and dander aerobically home. It reminded me of your hair gel incident Batters - very strange.

Marina, that website looks interesting, I shall examine in more detail shortly. Do you go to WW or just follow the plan when you are in that frame of mind? I need the personal humiliation or I just wouldn't do anything.

Batters, IKWYM on the weightloss, as soon as I start losing I feel the need to allow myself just a few little treats. Perhaps this explains why I never get very far. You are doing great guns though, so keep it up.

WWW, your half term sounds ideal. Glad you are enjoying the break.

Kidsrus, have you ever played hospitals / beauticians / hairdressers with your DD and the creams? I find it an excellent game when I have a hangover - DD1 comes over in therapist mode, examines my arm and decides it needs copious amounts of cream rubbed in. Then the other arm. Then the feet. Can last for hours, with minimal input. Sometimes you can even read a mag while you are doing it. I think that using old suncream as moisturiser is a good thing, as it loses its sun effectiveness after it's been open a bit, doesn/t it?

Off now to sort out my baked haddock and roasted tomatoes. Will sort the toys into boxes in front of Masterchef and an alcohol free beer. Am clearly feeling my age today

unknownrebelbang · 21/02/2008 23:09

Your time off sounds lovely www.

Another vote for avon creams here.

Winnie, I'm fine thanks. Was rather angsty yesterday. Sometimes I just find the relentless grind of family life/work tough-going and felt rundown with the cough. But hey, I've had a good day today and feeling a lot better.

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze - a glass of wine
  • No exercise
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember
  • Use hand cream no
  • Go to bed early - stupid o'clock.
  • Eat healthily, been out for a meal with a good friend, and we had desert.
  • Be happy, yes, had a giggle with said friend who regaled me with tales of her peri-menopausal antics...

And I've had Sir Galahad refusing to allow my name to be dragged into the mire that is occurring at our place at the moment, bless him. Lol, that sounds really patronising when it is nothing of the sort.

bamamama · 22/02/2008 09:09

Let me paint you a picture.....the flat is quiet, ds is in bed, dh and MIL are finally spending some time together and are away for the night visiting MIL cronies. I have a bottle of cheap shiraz and the Mighty Boosh 3 on dvd. It may not be bootcamping in the traditional sense but right now it's working for me.

Now just slightly perturbed that a rain hat is no protection from teenage groping.

enjoy your weekend!

marina · 22/02/2008 10:29

Sounds like chutney needed a floor-length rain poncho
Glad you have some peace and quiet with the Mighty Boosh bama
I am not doing ww per se at the moment but when I do I use the online version as there are no local evening meetings round my way at present and the ones near my workplace are so busy you can queue for 25 mins just to be weighed Time better spent on a brisk walk IMO
Am still under mushroom cloud of work worry (hope things are better for you Unknown, work politics are vile aren't they) so have been eating much less than usual and keeping it healthy and light
yy to water, lots
sleep - out of the window, I feel utterly wiped out tbh
Walking - intermittent, am spending work lunch hour staring at phone hoping for good news, same as the other 7 hours in the day
Cream, yes, hands and feet
Am conveniently off booze at mo, but really, am rank amateur compared to many bootcampers
Wishing all a happy, stylish and molestation-free day

WideWebWitch · 22/02/2008 10:30

I have been baaaaad.
But very happy

I have just read the thread about annoying cliquey threads and am a bit about Cod and Enid's comments. Especially being called "freaks". Really wish I hadn't looked at the thread now.

Anyway, exercising going well, new job (1 whole hour a day ) is fab, so happiness high.

Have a good weekend everyone.

marina · 22/02/2008 12:10

Hey, cheer up Cerys, it's really not worth bothering about Just hide the thread!
Glad to hear the running and the new job are both going well

LoveAndSqualor · 22/02/2008 13:37

Good afternoon, ladies, glad to hear all those of you half-terming (yes, it is a verb) seem to be enjoying yourselves!

ChutneyMary, at the oversexed bikeriding pipsqueak!

bama, glad to hear you have wine and the Mighty Boosh (series one still my favourite I think) and that dh is dealing with MIL.

WWW - what form did the badness take?

Frantically busy couple of days at work, as my sub is off sick and both my deputies are out of the office, and I have some total chump freelancer working for me who, the evidence suggests, doesn't know a headline from his arse and is scuppering my plan of sliding quietly into maternity leave. Weekend shaping up poorly too, as DP is down at his parents' and I have to do a final bit of pre-mat leave work which I've been putting off. Yawn. But! have been healthy-ish foodwise(apart from the chocolate muffin I just had for pudding) and have been cycling and even went to the gym last night to some stretchy class or other, so feeling quite good, really.

Have also been reading Kate Figes' Life After Birth, which someone gave to me - fascinating - has anyone else read it?

Marina, v sorry work is still crapsville - will you be able to switch off over the w/e?

marina · 22/02/2008 13:41

LAS, I love that Kate Figes book, not least because I won my copy of it for posting a question in an online chat session with Kate here, years ago
I wish that it had been published and available before my first child was born
Sorry your freelancer is making life difficult and stressful

Iota · 22/02/2008 17:03

Just checking in to get my clique fix

am a little bit hungover today

half term has been nice but I've run out of steam now and am ready to see the back of my children.

have a happy weekend, everyone

chutney and again, at teenage groper!

bama - your peace & quiet and Mighty Boosh is well deserved, hope you enjoyed it all.

cerys - at 1hr a day exercise. I'm really missing the running.

L&S - once on mat leave will you be able to leave the office behind or will you keep sneaking in or phoning?

I'm yawning away again so I think another early night beckons, perhaps not as early as yesterday but certainly before 10pm.

Enjoy the weekend.
