WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp, WEEK FIVE of 2008

WideWebWitch · 03/02/2008 20:56

Welcome to week 5 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

hello everyone, I seem to have been AWOL from this thread for a couple of weeks.

Just been to my weekly WW meeting and I am annoyed with myself as I have spent a month, gaining a lb, losing it again, staying the same....
I have made a list of events this year which would go much better if I actually followed the WW plan and lost some of this weight! eg holiday which will involve going swimming, the Race for Life, my 40th birthday in September

In an attempt to get back to running seriously again, I have entered another half marathon. Next month. Eeeek. My friend is doing the London marathon so I hope to do some training sessions with her, but draw the line at 26 miles...

Winnie - it takes a LOT of effort for me to look gorgeous these days and I am not glamorous, though I try to look "tidy" as we say in these parts!

I have started a part-time LSA job at my DDs' school so am currently doing 5 hours a week, rising to 10 in September. My DS starts school (mornings only) then so this is ideal. Sorry to hear about your LSA problem, MrsPG.

hello to everyone, it's nice to be back

marina · 06/02/2008 14:39

Hello again Cerys, nice to see you back, and you too FooFoo
Bacon sandwich sounds bliss bundle, and love the hair! It looks gorgeous.
In haste as am just jetting through

FooFooTheSnoo · 06/02/2008 14:46

Marina to my utter horror I found your book on the Charente Maritime when I was doing some cathartic clearing out. I really thought I had returned it - am so sorry. Will stick in post tomorrow if you could send me your address again.

Bundle your hair loks great - hmm am thinking about chop now. Like your walls too!

LoveAndSqualor · 06/02/2008 14:50

bundle, thanks - mattress stitch it is!

V jealous of everyone's pancakes, btw - I completely forgot

LoveAndSqualor · 06/02/2008 15:51

ps I like the hair! v flattering. shows off your face

Prufrock · 06/02/2008 16:34

love the hair bundle - what a huge difference. Short hair is so much easier to manage isn't it (pru reconsiders whether growing hair long is really teh right thing to do)

bundle · 06/02/2008 16:35

many thanks

yes am enjoying my new Short Hair status though in eyes of dd's am obviously Not The Person I Was (ie not a pwincess any more)

WideWebWitch · 06/02/2008 21:01

Prufrock, welcome back, and lol at being better than me and it not taking much, you're quite right! ha ha at 10 lapses a week, so, do you choose them in advance? I have far more than 10 and you can all see. Well done on other rules. No, fkwits don't know. One of them resigned today and I nearly cheered. But obv looked very concerned while biting her hand off to take the letter...

DofN, 11000 is fab, have you posted the photo of the pie? To TORMENT us with? A day of cooking sounds lovely, like domestic bliss...

Unknwonrel, that sounds good and ah at your ds, how lovely it sounds. You still need to tell us about the circs of the bottle in bed!

Bundle, lovely haircut!

Batters, I've asked on the basis that who cares if they can't be trusted if we're getting rid of 'em. I have one day agreed next week, yay! and yes you are IMAGINING the McDonalds spree 17000 is fab, well done, glad your skin is better

Marina, lol at visions of commuters! I will indeed thrill you with tales of revenge outsourcng

Ahh, unknown, you've enlightened us on the wine, thank you. I don't have a bob, did have a v sharp one for years and years and am ot glam but thanks for thinking so!

Oh no bama, you're turning into me, sympathy

Gotta go, Torchwood, but will come back and tell you how shite I've been!

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • Another sluggish hour on the bike, plus 2 mile hike from school
  • Lots of water - not enough, never is when I'm at home.
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember
  • Use hand cream yy
  • Go to bed early, was asleep by 11ish last night, missed the end of the prog I was watching, lol. Woke up at 2ish with a buzzing ear, but thankfully a gentle poke seemed to help Yes I know I shouldn't....(it's been fine since though)
  • Eat healthily, hmm, Raspberries for breakfast, carvery lunch and s/w for tea, plus sweets, choc ices and yet another pancake (at Beavers, lol - there are advantages to helping out).
  • Be happy. Pleasure/Pain principle at work again - had the day off, great - but I've got two really heavy days now to meet deadlines.

Had DS1's review, which was ok...but he could do sooo much better - having said that, he's getting good levels and no real problems, so nothing really to complain about. Very frustrating though as he is very able, and is just coasting. Still, we enjoyed a quick lunch before DH went back to bed (shifts) and I dragged him to the service at the other lads' school.

WideWebWitch · 06/02/2008 22:10

Winnie, how nice to be whistled at, have you seen that Dot cartoon, hang on, will find it, here

L&S. "downstairs are all the bedrooms" Are you Yoda? Or yoda are you? at anyone texting from NY! Did you have Wotsits?

MrsPG, glad your job is ok, well done on walking

Foofoo, yes, I think you should wait re hair, just because it might be an idea not to make any drastic changes but do if you think it will definitely be cheering. We understnad about comfort eating, sounds as if you've been going from one extreme to other, with good reason x

Bundle, bacon s'w from Leon is ok I feel

Hello Cerys, welcome back and deeply impressed at running. I run for a train sometimes and it half kills me so well done

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/02/2008 22:16

Very quick from me tonight - but I do like the hair bundle.

Everything tick except Flexitol. 14000 steps including 40min 'aerobic' walk. And mucking out and carting wheelbarrows full of poo. Sciatica is hurting now though.

I've eaten cheese scone, vegetable soup, seeds & nuts, apple, raw carrots, baked beans & cheese, plum, banana, 2 squares of chocolate (Ocado freebie), not much coffee and plenty of water.

Need to finish some pre-school work for tomorrow and desperately want to be in bed. I'll download the 'pie' photo tomorrow.

WideWebWitch · 06/02/2008 22:17

Just checked that link Winnie, that's not the one, hang on, try again here?

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 06/02/2008 22:20

bum, still didn't work, it;s the second one along on the right (not that bloody good for the effort so far!) and says

"Dot approached the man who whistled at her: 'Normally I'd punch you,' she growled, 'but it's my 40th birthday today - so I'll let you off.'

Feminist in me, yeah, yeah, but have sent to 2 friends so far.

hello all, possibly last post from me for a while - MIL is in the air as we speak and I'm enjoying a glass of wine, soaking up the peace while I still can.

Terrible bootcamp day - almost a whole pack of triple choc cookies PLUS cake and now wine. No water either and we have a hire car so I didn't cycle anywhere either.

Anyway. Bundle - hair looks fabulous - very impressed.

Batters - isn't it frightening what consitutes as a binge?! That sounds like a Friday night to me .

Enjoy your Thursday everyone and go easy over the binge fest weekend...

Iota · 07/02/2008 09:49

just checking in.
the week is going quite well for me and I am going to the gym in 15 mins.

I tried the Power Plate last week as a friend told me it burns 300 calories in 10 minutes, whilst you just stand there

Sadly, it's not for me - I could feel my whole head vibrating and my ears felt tickly for ages afterwards. So I am back to slogging away on the treadmill, cross trainer etc.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/02/2008 09:53

bama - "MIL is in the air as we speak". No doubt on her broomstick?!

iota - power plate does indeed sound horrible.

marina · 07/02/2008 10:12

oooer, bama, good luck with the invasion of the MIL. We had a Jindabyne Disagreement at the weekend (got it out on LoveFilm, dh hated it so much he asked me to turn it off) - is she like Laura Linney's MIL
Am having goodish week exercise wise - 15,000 steps yesterday, 12,000 day before, running sweatily up and down suburban streets trying to successfully leave house with pass and with Oyster card simultaneously has helped get my day off to an unexpectedly aerobic start
It is Day Two in the Chocolate-Free House of Doom...only another 38 days to go. Drink is one of the few aspects of healthy living I feel is good for me - 4 units in a weekend is my standard limit and we very rarely drink during the week. But as almost everything else is a disgrace I am not feeling too smug
That vibro-plate sounds nasty iota - not even any cheap thrills to compensate? Well done on sustaining the gym routine. Sustaining effort is my downfall hence my bossy little spreadsheet
Winnie, normally I'd tut like fury at the whistling, boring old 40 something Dworkinista as I am at heart but yay for you just the same
Happiness is uppydowny as dd would call it - ds is having more problems with his eejit teacher, we are all tired in the run-up to half-term and I just seem to get Cloverfield-dimensions PMT these days
I agree with bundy re the hair FooFoo - I'd let the dust settle for a while longer. Am glad you are getting by day to day - in times of extreme crisis that in itself is a huge achievement. I shall play "I'm Still Here" from Follies on my iPod on the way home and think of you - don't worry about the book btw
WWW if I had half your sanguine outlook and irrepressible capacity for enjoying life I'd be pretty satisfied, your posts always, always cheer me up XXX - even if like you, and unlike Cerys, the idea of running makes me worry about the footage of Reggie Perrin's MIL

I'm surprised that you agree with me re Power Plate - I thought that the lure of burning so many calories would spur you all on.

There were people queuing to use the PP this morning, so some people must like it.

Prufrock · 07/02/2008 13:06

Ok - tuesday I sinned with a chocolate Viennese, and half a pancake with chocolate spread and strawberries. I don't choose sins in advance no www - I just have to allow myslef some slips from perfection.

Prufrock · 07/02/2008 13:15

Powerplates are horrid. But the principle behind them is good - the mini vibrations up and down your spine mean that your core muscles have to work without you really noticing. Far better IMO (and my shrinking muffin top is proof) is a flexibar - I've been doing 20 minutes of it once a week with my personal trainer and it's brilliant.

Batters - the binge drinking worries me too, as I am only drinking very occasionally, but will easily drink a bottle, and maybe a G&T and port if we are out. But I figure it's better to not drink in the week and have the occasional blow out than to drink in the week and still have the occasional blow out. And I know that I would not be happy with going out to dinner and limiting my consumption - I'd rather not drink at all and at least feel virtuous as well as boring.

Prufrock · 07/02/2008 13:18

Wednesday I didn't sin at all - and I did an hour with my PT including some manic boxing to Club Tropicana and Summer in the City. And last night we had a pre-school committee meeting and the other members ahd bought me chanpagne and chocolates to say thank you for single handedly keeping the pace going whilst we were managerless - one of their sons had described me as "the lady who used to be a teacher at my school"! So I felt appreciated, and managed to delegate quite a lot.
