WWW's six week ten year younger bootcamp, WEEK FIVE of 2008

Welcome to week 5 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Fab. Not been on for ages but this is timely as DH and I are "rethinking our lifestyle"!! Will have a good read later and no doubt see names from last year's camp.

cerys · 22/02/2008 19:16

Thank you Duchess, but it is my job which is a whole hour a day. Exercise is long run on Sundays and other sessions when I can be arsed fit them in.

Have hidden that thread but wish you could hide whole threads by certain MNers

I am off to the pub tonight with some of the mums from DD2s class. I could be back by 10.30pm or it could be a late one - they are a lively bunch!

unknownrebelbang · 22/02/2008 20:35

What's Cod been up to now??

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • No exercise
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember
  • Use hand cream no
  • Go to bed early - stupid o'clock.
  • Eat healthily, soso.
  • Be happy, tis the weekend, say no more.
WideWebWitch · 22/02/2008 22:05

Have read you all but not much time as we've just got home and are about to watch recorded Torchwood so will respond more tomorrow.

I thought enid was funny about us, it made me laugh. And as for Cod, she can stuff it up her arse for nothing and fuck off while she's doing it, to quote from Withnail and I

I love Life after birth but can't remember much about it, read when pg with ds, so OMG 11 yrs ago

My badness, oooh,

cod with pesto and prawns on tomatoes
peas
leeks cooked in butter
potaotes
DIVINE lemon syllabub
lashings of white Burgundy
laughed and laughed and laughed over dinner with friends and staggered to bed at 1am
had a lie in though, children disappeared with the other children and we didn't really see them much
then today ate about 10 pieces of toast with butter
then went to a WOW deli here with friend and bought the most amazing enormous sausage roll (carbs for soaking up hangover) and seafood salad and anchovies wrapped around olives and black pudding (in my fridge now) and marinated red mullet all served by delicious young men it was a swoony experience all round. One of them had a American accent too and was all talkative and suggestive. Well, he prob wasn't the latter, it's much more likely to be my hormones! Hey, lovely friend, who is my age (41) told me what her husband said to her recently - she and another friend were a bit drooly over some men at Disneyland Paris who had been doing stunts and when she said to her dh "oh I expect they love all the mums fancying them" he said "bet they don't. I remember what I thought of women your age when I was their age"

Anyway, have had lovely time, really truly life affirming and joyful and relaxing and now I'm home, have just had a glass of wine and will now go and watch Torchwood.

Lolled this afternoon and watched TERRIBLE film, how to lose a guy in 10 days, but did enjoy Matthew McConaghey or however you spell it. See, my hormones, terrible!

bamamama · 23/02/2008 04:34

Watched the whole of series 3 Boosh (jury still out on whether it's any good but have definately struck Julian Barratt off my ridiculous crush list. Think I now prefer Noel Fielding [fickle emoticon]) and drank the whole bottle of wine. Ate lots of toast this morning.

Dh and MIL still away so I've been for a long walk with ds and had banana bread.

WWW - your night out sounds great - lol at talkative and suggestive deli men. Hormones have a lot to answer for...anyway, must be off, the sky is begining to bruise and we shall be forced to camp.

OMG, was just on the loo when all the lights went flickery and one fell out leaving a polish builder staring at me with the sky over his head! He'll need counselling now, poor man.

Batters - good luck for your DD's exams. I think chilled is the way forward. My DDs are much younger (nearly 3 and nearly1) but the number of friends who ask if she (the big one) can do letters etc yet and look horrified when I cheerily say no is astounding. She is NOT YET 3, FGS. Your DD will flourish knowing that she has got a fab home environment without a huge weight of parental expectation on her shoulders. good on yer.

WWW, your week off sounds great. Hormones raging is also good, as it shows youth and vigour in the mind. Or at least a bit of lust. I feel quite, ahem, flustered in the presence of one of the young slips in my local pub who is gorgeous, even though he is only about 20. I thought Sid from Cbeebies was quite hot the other day too, which clearly means I need to get out more.

L and S, when do you start your ML? And are you a journalist? I am married to a hack so have a vested interest. Do you work for a newspaper or mag?

Marina, hope your stressful week was not too awful and that you can relax a bit over the weekend. Hope all is well with you too unknown.

Cerys, how is your head today? Big night or a few sedate beers?

Duchess, put your feet up today (as far as 3 childen and a farm will allow) and be nice to yourself on the food. It sounds very healthy and you need quantity to keep your energy up and grow a lovely baby boy.

Hello everyone else, hope all well and happy. Will check in over weekend. I missed the clique thread - were we mentioned by name? If we are a clique, where does that leave the ante natal and post natal clubs where they all know each other's inside leg measurement and swap tales of intimacy about bonking etc? I look forward to our thread and hearing how everyone is doing. It also keeps me a bit more in check - last night went out and drank only 1/2 bottle wine, and I am loving my Moron at all times. If people don't like the thread, can't they just hide it and move onto something they do like?

Am off out now with DDs for a walk and perhaps into town to borough market. Back later.

LoveAndSqualor · 23/02/2008 17:55

Chutney !! Teenage cyclists and Polish builders - quite a couple of days! Hope you're lying down in a darkened room with a flannel on your forehead now ... Yes, I am a journo - on the website of a newspaper. Where does your dh work - might I know him?

Duchess, once I'm out the door on mat leave, that's that, as far as I'm concerned! No emails, no phonecalls, no visits (until I can take DS in with me and get people to buy me cake). Finding these last few weeks tough, though, because I'm sort of there and not there, if you see what I mean - all the usual responsibilities/annoyances, plus worrying about getting everything up to speed for my successors, and planning for things I won't be around for and so forth. Weird, limbo sort of time ... I'll be glad when it's over!

cerys, guessing by your silence that the night was long ...?!

Bit of a nothing day today - very disturbed night - woke at about 4 and read Kate Figes for a couple of hours (really enjoying it; I like her briskness - but agree, Batters, a bit scary!) - so feeling slightly zoned out today. Meant to go for a swim but fell asleep on the sofa instead, and have been halfheartedly trying to write a thing for most of the afternoon (and have managed, oooh, about 100 words so far). Takeaway pizza for dinner last night ( but couldn't actually manage more than about half in the end), cereal and banana for breakfast, houmous and salad sandwich and chocolate brownie for lunch, a pitta bread just now and nothing like enough water. Sister coming round in an hour or so, so will make something with lentils for us to eat and try to get an early night. Thinking I need to pass the 250-word mark before I'm allowed to stop working or tomorrow will be too awful to contemplate! So I'd best get off MN ...

Hope you're all having great weekends

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 23/02/2008 18:44

bama - glad you had a good evening
batters - excellent steps and I like your laid-back exam policy
chutney - even more !!!

I seem to have reached a stage of exhaustion, hope it doesn't last, there are weeks and weeks to go yet.

Fed animals and dashed to farmers market and library this morning. Then sat about doing not much until mucking out at 4pm. It's clocked up 9500 steps though. At least 1000 of those must have been the walk from car to MacDonalds...!

Have eaten hot buttered croissant, chicken soup and lovely crusty bread, several raw carrots (not the Camberwell variety ) and a BigMac & large fries! Lots of lovely apple juice from market and lots of water and 3 coffees.

Lots of early nights & moisturising this week. My hands have completely recovered using a lashings of Crabtree & Evelyn and Dove handcreams.

cerys · 23/02/2008 19:14

hello! I got in at midnight and had taken it easy on the beers, unlike a couple of the others who ought to be feeling very fragile today.

My happiness is sky-high as Wales beat Italy very convincingly in the rugby.

Chutney, I would not know how to react if that happened to me (both the cyclist and the builder!)

Duchess and LAS, you seem to do so much - I can't remember being so busy during any of my pregnancies.

Someone gave me the Kate Figes book before I had DD1, so nearly 8 years ago. Scared me silly! I have re-read it since and found it very interesting.

Marina, sorry work is so grim at the moment.
Batters, I am sure it helps your DD that you are so calm, whereas some of her schoolfriends might feel under a lot of pressure.

WWW, you always eat such nice food. Including the Wotsits

WideWebWitch · 24/02/2008 08:50

cerys, well done for taking it easy on the beers, glad you are happy about rugby

DofN, I remain impressed at your energy and steps and as you know, I am partial to the odd Big Mac too

L&S, how long to go now? Those last weeks are tough.

Chutney omg at builder! And thanks for youth and vigour comments On the clique thread enid said something along the lines of "they always say I ate tons, didn't drink much until I went to best friend's wedding and got wankered on Baileys" - it made me laugh. Cod has us hidden I think. Did it get worse than that after I read it? About us?

Batters, well done on 21000 steps, and I hope you enjoyed your latte and paper.

Bama, only just noticd your Withnail quote, lol! MIL must be gone now, is it bliss?

Yoyo, tell us more about re thinking lifestyle!

Bk, when is the ahemtieth birthday? Are you finding it harder to not drink in the week now you're at home, or easier?

Prufrock, how are you?

Iota, hey, back to school tomorrow isn't it?

I am almost looking forward to being back on the wagon from, er, today actually, as I am back at work this week and NOT looking forward to it from a work toss o meter pov but am looking forward to it from a walking/eating less/drinking less/going to bed early pov.

Went to friends house for dinner last night and ate
beef
leeks
asparagus
roast potatoes
green beans
carrots
gravy
brie
roule herb cheese
crackers
a small port
wine although I don't have a hangover as I wasn't excessive although dh was a pita in the night and barked at me for snoring so I ended up in dd's bed for some of the night (she wasn't there, she was in with ds but her bed is SMALL and I am not) and I then got up with dd at 7.30 so I am going back to bed the minute dh gets up. He offered to get up in SUCH a grumpy fashion it wasn't genuine so I am taking the moral high ground.

I will start a new shiny thread shortly, week 1 all over again. Do feel much fatter for week off and really really need to get to a size 14 by, what, the summer I think, so another 2/3 GOOD bootcamps might just do it.

Keeping my motivation up is hard but I think I'm going to walk from Euston to Tottenham Ct Rd every day next week, that should help.

Only 500 cals in a Big Mac in fact!

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 24/02/2008 10:47

Is there any point in me reading this Kate Figes book you're all talking about. Or is a bit late for me?

cerys - glad you had a good night but didn't wreck yourself in the process!

www - hope you have a good week back at work

batters - no. of steps is fantastic

BigMacs - lower cals maybe but I expect the salt, sugar & fat are atrocious. Ah well, we don't have them very often - last time was Christmas holidays.

Despite tiredness, DH & I watched the entire series of Pride & Prej last night, ending about 1am. It's still great to watch. DH is particularly enthralled with Jennifer Ehles heaving chest, and having seen Camomile Lawn they are quite well acquainted!

Only cereal, milk, juice, iron supplement and coffee so far this morning. But roast beef & Yorkshires planned for lunch. But I am taking all the DCs swimming this afternoon.

Prufrock · 24/02/2008 10:52

You are all so bad for me. WWW saying that we will take it easy this week becuse it's half term has made me relax, even though it's not actualy my half term . So roll on bright shiny thread next week

WideWebWitch · 24/02/2008 13:22

In a last half term blow out I have just had:

2 rashers bacon
1 sausage
black pudding from that deli, it had lemon and thyme in it, mmm
2 pieces of toast, one with a fried egg plonked on top
some cherry tomatoes

God it was awesome, I prob haven't had a cooked brunch for a year.

sorry we led you astray Prufrock!

My sister is in labour!

cerys · 24/02/2008 13:28

Just dashing through with a shameless boast - I ran 16 miles this morning

Off for a much needed bath now!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 24/02/2008 14:22

Fab run Cerys - I hope you stretched out properly afterwards. I think my calf muscles would contract to the size of peas after that much work! Enjoy your bath.

www - Mmmmmmmmmmmm except for black pudding. Even if it is poncey black pudding.
