Ah - yes, it's hard to tell from the pics, but once you compare with your own jumpers, it's much easier. I could have done with making mine a bit shorter too

Something really odd happened today which I may as well share here as I know some of you like Celtic and Co. On my Instagram - a very convincing looking 'Flash Sale' came up on my stories from them - 80% discount so very tempting, except it was a fake site. They'd taken all the pics and graphics from the real one. So strange that they'd pick a small company like that though. I thought it was only designer sites that got copied!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 31/12/2022 16:31

@faustina that fake Celtic shop keeps popping up over Christmas, seems quite a few people have been taken in and ordered from there.

faustina · 31/12/2022 16:33

oh really? I'd never seen it before. What shits some people are 😡

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 31/12/2022 16:41

It was on Facebook originally I think.

@Noodle421 I'm embarrassed to say I have three different sizes! The 1st one was the lys and it's my usual size - it's very billowy fabric and it works well but i could have sized down. I have a cord one from the last sale that is 1 size down and thicker fabric and I think this is a good fit as the material doesn't "billow" so it would have been too much fabric. I have a blue check one also from the last sale that was only available 2 sizes down, i think this is ok,it's a little neater and definitely wouldn't have worked in a thicker fabric (it's the thinnest fabric of them all). So, with this indigo i opted for 1 size down like the cord. Did you get your usual size? I didn't try the pale blue so i don't know what the fabric was like.

@dudsville oooh, a fellow lover of the easy shirt. I actually have 3 not 2 as previously stated, all in the same size but have sized up with the indigo twill as I quite fancy it being a bit of a smock possibly layering over thin jumpers, but it might prove too voluminous, I’ll find out when my parcel arrives. I love the blue easy shirt - so simple worn with beaded necklace, jeans and birkies in the summer. I ripped the thinner gingham check shirt but a big shout out to Emily at Toast repair who has made a beautiful job fixing it and saved it from the bin.

This is underneath - look at how much work has gone into this

mizu · 31/12/2022 17:12

Stoic123 good news for me about the Tretorn boots. I've ordered in a 5 too but I'm not a 5!

My TOAST parcel is in Wales at the moment.

Countmeout · 31/12/2022 18:15

That’s fabulous @Noodle421 . I’m waiting on a repair arriving at the moment. I left it in when I was in London. Mine was very little though.
love hearing how all the orders are going. Has anyone got a dispatch email for anything they bought last night?

Mended shirt

I have a repair. It means I would need to go into the Edinburgh store though.
How does it work? Is the mend service available at every store? Are you charged for it?

neveradullmoment99 · 31/12/2022 18:59

I wish I could post it to them to do it :(

Countmeout · 31/12/2022 19:05

I think there is a list of stores that do it @neveradullmoment99 . I was only charged the postage to send it back to me. (Via DHL)I understand. I did wonder if you could post both ways as I am only near a store once a year. Though I doubt I will wear any out out I have so many clothes now 😬

Noodle421 · 31/12/2022 19:13

I live near a store - I dropped it off, they took my contact details and sent it to the Edinburgh branch I think. It’s a popular service so I expected a wait (4-6 weeks for this one). I deliberately handed it in start of autumn knowing I wouldn’t be wearing it as it’s a summer item of clothing. My local branch rang me when it was ready for collection. All free. It’s the second item of clothing I’ve had repaired and both times I said they could do what they wanted and didn’t mind if the mend was conspicuous. Let them know if you’d prefer it to blend. I don’t think my blurry photo does the stitch work justice - it’s almost like a little lace addition to the gingham. Makes it more personal.

Noodle421 · 31/12/2022 19:14

I’m guessing there will be a postal arrangement if you don’t live near a store

Noodle421 · 31/12/2022 19:18

I think only Edinburgh offers the repair service but it may have expanded. I live near a store in the south of England. I’ve had two nightdresses (underarm holes- large ) and a cord dress fixed - ripped by a nail as I walked through a narrow gate. Great job done on all. Given clothes a new lease of life.

Noodle421 · 31/12/2022 19:23

I’d forgotten I’d had two nightdresses repaired — ages ago.

faustina · 31/12/2022 20:26

@Noodle421 - that is a real thing of beauty!

Laska2Meryls · 31/12/2022 20:30

I was in Edinburgh store last autumn ( we live almost as far from there as you can get in the Uk ) and talked to the person repairing stuff about stitching processes and techniques.( I am an pretty amateur Sashiko and Boro sewer, but really have got into it since covid lockdowns) .. She was fab and really enthusiastic about the practice.. and from what I could see was doing a great job.. A real crafts woman .. She will do a great job , @neveradullmoment99 ...It may be worth a visit if you can to discuss what you'd like to see

couldhavegonethen · 31/12/2022 20:42

I was in the Bath store yesterday and there was a lady doing repairs….. well I think that’s what she was doing! So maybe take this with a pinch of salt.
l bought the Romilly Abstract dress & have ordered the gathered check shirt dress online as I now wish I’d bought it in store. Waiting on the copper garment dyed dress and the root check swingy dress from the sale.

SmaugMum · 31/12/2022 21:48

Thrilled with my Tretorn Olive boots! I’m between sizes so sized down half a size but I always wear thick walking socks (dodgy boiler and perpetually cold feet). They fit absolutely fine. Thanks to whoever recommended them; they will get masses of wear here (a rainy part of the country and the track to our house has become a mud bath after the very cold spell and multiple applications of salt and grit).

OftenOrange · 31/12/2022 23:06

f I may miss the chance…I wanted to order a couple of dresses, they seem to be available in a range of sizes but if I wait it out my size sell out …
Do Toast normally cut sale prices at beginning of New Year?

dudsville · 01/01/2023 09:37

Happy New Year lovely thread people!

Great news about the boots @SmaugMum , it's wonderful finding something just right.

That's a really nice dress @couldhavegonethen .

They have reduced things further @OftenOrange but it's not a reliable thing. Can you order it and keep it aside for two weeks in case they do? I think someone her was once given the additional discount by contacting CS, but another had to return and reorder, which seems an unnecessary hassle.

I've enjoyed the chat about repairs. I've always done my own. My mum gave me a quilt 30 years ago. It's aged and the fabrics have faded and are thinned out. 5 years ago a much loved dog, now gone, chewed a hole through the middle. There was no possibility of matching the fabric so i opted for a contrasting and visible repair. I like it as it reminds me of my lovely dog as well. I didn't know it was a style of repair so i enjoyed that google rabbit hole.

Noodle421 · 01/01/2023 10:06

@dudsville Happy New Year Xx
such a lovely story about your quilt and dog. Thank you X

Laska2Meryls · 01/01/2023 12:22
