I think she's very intelligent and would be interesting to sit next to at an official dinner but not sure she's the maternal/family-oriented sort. Which must be hard if the entire purpose of your job is to produce heirs!

Margarethe has attended five universities including Cambridge. Yep she's clever. Which to be honest is unusual in any royal family

Actually I’m quite certain I’ve seen she said that they would’ve liked to have had more children but it just didn’t happen.

She’s not a cold woman by any means, I don’t think. She’s always gathered all the family and her grandchildren around her at Christmas and other holidays, and she speaks very affectionately about her mother and father. She’s clearly very close to her sisters too. She used to look at her husband with such adoration. But very committed to her work (after all it’s a career, at the end of the day) and took/takes her responsibility very seriously.

DH has met her (he works in a field where you sometimes get invited to embassy events). He said she was lovely and asked really relevant questions. I had never realised until recently.

Happy new year everyone!

We will have CPM's ruby parure I'm guessing today for their new year bash.

KillingMeDeftly · 01/01/2023 14:43

We have at least two royal weddings to look forward to in the coming year. The Duke of Luxembourg's daughter (aunt of thread mascot Charles) is marrying in April and Rania's son Hussein in June. His sister is also engaged but no date announced yet. I guess she can't marry until after his wedding.

And at least one new royal baby - Charles' sibling.

Daisy gave her NY speech yesterday. She spoke about her family and the crisis regarding titles/rumoured rift:

It fills me with great gratitude that over the course of the year so many have wanted to celebrate the jubilee of my reign and have joined in on the events that have unfolded. Thank you for the many greetings I have received, thank you for the happy smiles I have met everywhere. Thank you for the support around our country and for the love that surrounds me and my family. It is something that strengthens us all, both on a daily basis and when problems arise.

For most of us, family is one of the most important things in our lives. We follow how our children develop and how they tackle life's challenges in their own way. We rejoice, and we worry, and we so want them to be well.
^^
I embrace my entire family with great love at all times. Difficulties and disagreements can arise in any family, including mine. The whole country has witnessed this.
^^
That the relationship with Prince Joachim and Princess Marie has run into difficulties hurts me.
^^
We have now had a time of more peace and reflection, and I am sure that the family can enter the new year together with confidence, understanding and new courage.

**

Today the Monarch’s decision on titles has been enacted. The relevant Princes and Princess are no longer known by those titles. Nikolai has given the following statement through his mother’s press secretary:

’It is a strange feeling, and an experience that I would rather have been without.

But now it is what it is. For the rest of my life, I will be proud of the years when I was allowed to be a prince of Denmark.’ - Count Nikolai.

**

I really like the pink, although the outfit itself isn’t very inspired. I think Daisy looks lovely wearing her namesake earrings and brooch (the latter having been gifted to her by her mother, who wore it often throughout her life, for her 60th birthday. Margrethe had borrowed it on her wedding day).

After the speech she attended her annual private party for close friends. Photo shows her arrival. A little more flair to the outfit...

Tonight the Queen holds her big NYD bash. Joachim and SWP were due to be there together, but it has been announced that Marie will not attend (apparently as Henrik is ill so she’s staying with him in Paris).

I hope Mary doesn’t wear the ruby Parure, tbh, as I’m getting rather bored of it (Probably because we’ve just seen it on the newly released Jubilee portraits)! Might be time to add another piece to her collection...

Hmmm...seem to have ended up with some formatting issues. Sorry!

paradyning · 01/01/2023 17:50

Know what you mean @TangledWebofMincemeatDeception about the rubies but the rest of her collection isn't very inspiring imo, especially her new one. Prefer the midnight tiara out of all the rest but don't think that comes a a a parure?
