Chanel No 5

I tried a squirt of this the other day and it was lovely - had never actually smelled it before. What do you all think though - classic, or old fashioned?

Classic. Something smells good on you or it doesn't.

I love it, and think it's smells great on me but my DH really doesn't like it.

I think it's quite marmite

Classic, although DH bought me a ridiculously expensive bottle last Christmas & I made him take it back and order me something else I fancied instead.

It's definitely classic although I'm not hugely keen on it myself.

I dont like it. I love coco though.

I associate it with my mum, who is in her 80s now.

I don't think it smells right on me. I find it very heavy. I like Coco Mademoiselle though.

Smells great on others, but is as if I’ve been peed on by a cat if I wear it.

I’m a Chanel 19 woman.

I don't love it. But I do absolutely love L'eau No. 5, oddly - along with Coco Mademoiselle and Chance Eau Tendre.

It's a classic. However like all the Chanels it is heavy on the aldehydes which are massively migraine inducing for some.

Me too. Allure smells beautiful on my colleague, but i get a wee throwback on me when i wear it.

I absolutely adore it and it takes me back to when I used to work as a consultant for Chanel and we used to have men coming in at Christmas asking for a bottle of “channel number 5” 😆 always used to make me smile.

I have it and wear it, but usually only in the evening. I have an array of Chanel and prefer the lighter ones in the day.

But it's a classic. At one point, my Nana, my mum and myself all owned a bottle and wore it. And it suited us all with an age range of at that time of 20 to 70.

I love it so much but buy a good knock off version.

It’s classic, smells amazing on my mother, it smells so expensive yet it’s so accessible unlike other Chanel exclusive scents that are harder to find.

I obtained a full bottle of it recently. My ds's girlfriend received a bottle from her ex, she had never even tried it before so it was one of those, 'it's Chanel, she will love it' purchases. She really didn't like it and it sat in her drawer for about 2 years. I had a perfume which someone gifted me which I didn't really like, and she did. So we swapped. I got the best end of the deal there, I offered to buy her a 2nd bottle of something to make it up, but she said she was just happy someone, not being she, could use it 😂

I still have the little sample bottle that has the very unsecure lid that I was given over 25 years ago. There is a small amount left and it's so mature that its gone brown. But it still smells the same. Just what seems 100 times stronger!

Revolting on me

It’s not good on me, but like the pp, No. 19 is my perfume of choice.

I first tried it by having a cheeky spray of a friend’s mum’s bottle which was on the side. I was 17.

it’s still my favourite 39 years later.

DD’s is Chance, it smells lovely on her, if I get so much of a passing whiff I immediately think of her.

Like it but prefer Coco Mademoiselle

It smells great on some people but it's cat piss on me I'm afraid.

I used to love Coco back in the day but they reformulated it and now it smells weird.

Classic, and I have a bottle, but I quite often get bored of it and don’t wear it for ages.

I love it but I wear the eau de cologne not the perfume

I also like No19 but it smells awful on me.

I remember a late 90s limited edition perfume called Une Fleur de Chanel that I loved.
