I tried a squirt of this the other day and it was lovely - had never actually smelled it before. What do you all think though - classic, or old fashioned?

FadedRed · 24/11/2022 19:19

Love it- I use the EDT.

Celeryfavour · 24/11/2022 19:22

I love it. I've still got a small amount in an old bottle, I'm going to get a new one as a present to myself when I'm divorced, as it reminds me of my 20s before I met stbxh. Scent is so powerful!

Snugglemonkey · 24/11/2022 19:22

I like it and used to wear it, but I switched to Miss Dior.

heidbuttsupper · 24/11/2022 19:35

It is a classic but depends if it suits you. I only wear coco

Daftmum47 · 24/11/2022 19:51

I think Chanel No5 smelled good on my in my 20s and early 30s but not any more. I think of it as a young woman’s perfume for some reason. The Marilyn Monroe connection probably feeds into that.

SocksAndTheCity · 24/11/2022 19:52

I don't like it, but do I like Coco Mademoiselle and Chance au Tendre. My favourite Chanel one is Gardenia, but I'm rationing my elderly bottle of it which has probably gone off.

Daftmum47 · 24/11/2022 19:52

Struggling for a perfume now so open to suggestions. I find there’s just too many to find my own!

OrangePomander · 24/11/2022 19:58

I loathe it, but only because of association. When I was a child my grandma used to practically bathe in it and the smell was overwhelming. I hadn’t realised it was No. 5 until I started taking an interest in perfume many years later and sprayed a tester in a shop. Couldn’t scrub it off my wrist fast enough. So that’s not much help, sorry op!

ThanksItHasPockets · 24/11/2022 19:59

Classic and I absolutely love it, but only the edp or parfum. The edt is awful on me.

Talia99 · 24/11/2022 19:10

I love it but I wear the eau de cologne not the perfume

Wow - I would love to smell the eau de cologne. Where did you find it?

Loachworks · 24/11/2022 20:02

I hate it but think it's a classic. DH bought me a large bottle of Chanel Chance, fortunately I love it.

dudsville · 24/11/2022 20:04

This will always hold fond memories for me. I was 22, in love, his friend visited with this as a gift for me. It was luxury, extravagance, elegance. I don't think it suited me but it got me started down the road of finding my fragrance. I settled happily on Coco, but whenever i smell no 5 i smile, my youth is in that smell that's both timeless and classic whilst being comfortably retro.

FancyFelix · 24/11/2022 20:06

I love it but prefer #19

I think it would be my desert island luxury

Lightningfast · 24/11/2022 20:06

Can’t bear it. Far too strong and it gives me a headache.

FancyFelix · 24/11/2022 20:07

Chance is also gorgeous and more modern in my opinion

AdoraBell · 24/11/2022 20:09

Classic but it doesn’t work for me <sad face> I bought it and got comments like “have you spilt bleach” and “is that disinfectant I can smell”.

Gave it to a friend and the person behind her in a shop queue said - you smell glorious, what is that perfume?

If it works for you then enjoy wearing it.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 24/11/2022 20:10

It’s beautiful on me. Warm and cold at the same time. It REALLY works on my skin. I’m never without it in my perfume collection. I’ve an EDT, EDP and a tiny (and eye wateringly expensive) pure perfume.

I also love No19 and the original Coco (not Mademoiselle).

The ‘newer’ scents (Chance, Gabrielle etc) are too … dunno… light? generic? soft? for me.

I also adore some of the Exclusif scents - too many to mention. Too expensive to justify this month

SheWoreARaspberryBeret123 · 24/11/2022 20:10

I think it smells a bit like pee.
I love no19 though!

shggg245 · 24/11/2022 20:15

Love it smells good on me but I use sparingly.

LindorDoubleChoc · 24/11/2022 20:24

I think the fascinating thing about perfumes is that they smell so different on people.

Without fail (and I have a decent and varied collection) the perfume that has people saying to me "omg you smell gorgeous" is Clinique Aromatics. I know that many loathe it but somehow it goes with me.

Not a fan of Chanel 5. There's something about the janitor's cupboard about it for me.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/11/2022 20:26

I like it but I prefer coco mademoiselle

PlantsAndSpaniels · 24/11/2022 20:32

Its my mums favourite so it always reminds me of her. She tried coco mademoiselle a few years ago and didn't like it on her so gave me it.

OceanbreezeSun · 24/11/2022 20:37

I think it’s recognised as a classic, in terms of how popular it is and how long it’s been around.

I don’t personally like it though. It smells musty and powdery to me.

LaQuern · 24/11/2022 20:43

Love it, have worn it for 35 years

JaceLancs · 24/11/2022 21:05

I prefer no 19
DD suits coco mademoiselle
