Chanel No 5

I tried a squirt of this the other day and it was lovely - had never actually smelled it before. What do you all think though - classic, or old fashioned?

I don’t like it. Smells too soapy and musty.

Ages ago, as in the 1990s, I read a magazine article where a lot of men blind tested women’s perfume, as in, sniffing it on someone and rating it.

They all hated Chanel number 5. Even those who, before the trial, said that they liked it and that their wives or girlfriends used it etc. Comments included, “smells like something they give away free with petrol” to “smells like old ladies”.

The runaway winner was, wait for it, Charlie original (now called Charlie Blue, I think). It was also the cheapest in the trial!

It is worth smelling in all the different concentrations because they smell different. They are slightly different scents with different notes. I like the cologne, edt and parfum (extrait) but not the edp.

Classic. I like it. Clearly it isn't for everyone though

Hate it, smells like old lady perfume …sorry

I first wore it when I "borrowed" DM's when I was younger. She then gave me a bottle for my wedding day so it brings back really lovely memories of both my childhood and my wedding. It smells completely different on both of us but thankfully is nice and not wee like on either of us.

My bottle has long since run out but I still sniff DM's one whenever we visit. Blush

It’s the only perfume I am not allergic to which makes it miraculous in its self

I am not a fan of perfume usually as most smell either of windowlene or some other cleaning products or burnt toffee

Chanel actually smells like perfume.

I wanted to love it, but it just smells like cat pee on me too.

I absolutely love it, but it fades very quickly on me. It’s such a shame as I associate it with a very lovely chap so it smells of instant happy memories. I love Eau Fraiche Chance (recommended on S&B) and Gabrielle which both have more staying power. I’ve never got into No 19 though, it seems to react very badly with my skin.
