Chanel No 5

I tried a squirt of this the other day and it was lovely - had never actually smelled it before. What do you all think though - classic, or old fashioned?

I really don’t like it I probably don’t have a sense of smell though.

I want to love it but it just smells very ‘perfumey’ to me. Also when I was in my twenties my best friend’s mother said it’s what old ladies wear who don’t wash. Have never quite been able to lose that association.

Beautiful perfume. I wear it on special occasions.

I really want to love it.

But I hate it - on other people as well as me.

I do love other perfumes too as I'm not as stuck on a signature scent as I used to be when I was younger.

I love it and wear it every day. I wanted to like coco mademoiselle as it smells lovely in my friend but it’s too sweet / flowery on me. I recently tried Gabrielle and liked it but my husband really doesn’t! I haven’t tried 19, might go and try that for a change

My DM used to wear Chanel 19 all the time when I was a DC and I loved it on her.

It never suited me though.

My DM bought me my first bottle of Chanel No 5 and will replenish it for me for Christmas whenever it runs out.

I've requested another perfume this year that I've run out if that's also a huge favourite of mine

My DM has worn it for about 50 years. I tried some the other day and it was lovely, so might acquire a bottle.

I was surprised when I first smelled it as its so popular. I really think it is horrible.

I fell in love with Coco as a teen because of the Vanessa Paradis ads in the early 90s.

Classic but one of those that gives me a terrible headache! Why is it that some fragrances just give an immediate migraine - my partner has a Dior one that I actually cannot stand because it turns my stomach/gives me headache almost instantly.

I love it. You can get it as a body spray and spray it on your hair, it's gorgeous

I also love Chanel Allure.

I like it but only for evening wear, too heavy for day time.

I used to wear Chanel 19 in my teens 20+ years ago, I didn’t think it was sold anymore. I used to always wear Chanel allure too but it gives me a migraine now so I haven’t worn it in years.

Love it, have worn it since I was18.

I wore it for years and loved it, DH bought it for me and it was my go to perfume until I was about 45. Almost overnight it smelled musty and old-fashioned on me, I reckon it was hormonal changes as I went into peri-menopause. I still love it but not on me!

Brings me out in a rash. Such a pity as I really like it.

My mother (born in the 1920s) used it. Marilyn Monroe too I believe! It smells of classic glamour to me.

I like it. In my 20’s and early 30’s I wore Chanel Coco.. it sadly no longer smells the same .. I am guessing has been reformulated. Also it was not a happy time in my life and maybe my nose knows that!
Chanel body crème is also really lovely and luxurious.

There is no other perfume. Always on me.

I spray it on my clothes in case it smells horrible on my skin.
For anyone that needs to know, Milton Lloyd does a very good copy of Chanel no 5 called 'Vogue'. I get mine for £3.50 a bottle in an indoor market but they also sell it on Amazon for a bit more.
I'm amazed at how well they copy a complex scent like that.

It doesn't suit me and neither does Allure or Coco Madamoiselle. All too strong and heavy for me. But I do like No.19 and it likes me too.
